Rockstar Launcher downtime - GTA Trilogy now back on PC

Honestly, this has gotta be a new low for Rockstar, removing players access to a game they paid full price for because THEY made a mistake. And thousands of people already got the files and are disecting them, this does nothing, they're all backed up.

The cut music files still being distributed could have subjected them to legal issues maybe.

I come from consoles and I have always bought rockstar games on release day because I know they never disappoint and have quality standards. Now that I'm on pc and saw this whole mess, I think it's time to stop doing that.

Does anybody know if I can refund the games even though I did spend more than 2 hours playing? (Rockstar Site says you are only eligible for a refund if you play under 2)

This could not have gone worse for Rockstar. Do they not have a QA department? Unreal.

On the other hand this definitely feels like it's breaking a consumer protection law somewhere, the way they just removed these games from peoples library with no ETA. Like, that's a service paid for not fulfilled.

No maybe about it. It's piracy.

Take the games and their quality aside as that's a whole other thing for other threads, and it's one of hell of a fudge up for a single player game launch. Can't remember a mistake of this size for an AAA release.

This took people what, 10 minutes, to find it? And nobody at Rockstar checked the version submitted for final release before pushing them onto to the CDN servers. Bruh, this company is so mismanaged, I'm surprised they actually get anything done.

Pretty sure that's one of the reasons aye but not only. Fine by me delisting the trilogy over that, but I don't see a reason to remove it from current players when it was already out there and people have the files on their PC anyway. It's not like it's uninstalled.

These kinds of f*ck ups don't really seem to happen with their main games, but this is the second time GSG has left source code leaks in their ports (mobile versions was the first), how was this not verified especially being from an external company? A PC release means people will try to crack it open.

I don't even mean just the source code being left in. But pulling the entire launcher down, crippling all their PC games for well over 24 hours, and then removing purchased products from peoples libraries, despite the damage already being done.

I wonder if it's because they could still get sued if they let current players play the games with the unlicenced soundtrack in the files. But the music isn't actually active and it's already been distributed so... It's literally the only reason I can think of.

That's what happens when you're dumb enough to rehire the people who botched the last version of these games. Just lazy and cheap.

oh boy, now i feel lucky that i could still play the trilogy on pc with servers down, i even managed to record “running with the night” playing on the radio, will upload to youtube afterwards, coz i bet my ass they are removing it right now with bunch of other songs

but hey, maybe that will teach rockstar not to work with outsource companies anymore :sadkek:

Again, Rockstar is responsible for pushing the game onto their servers, not GSG. Somebody at Rockstar should've checked, went "Hey, you forgot to take these files out" and then had them take the files out, check it again to make sure everything that needed removing is removed and only then pushed it onto their servers.

That does make me wonder if the soundtrack lists sent to the media were actually always correct, GSG just shipped the game with the songs anyway as an oversight, which would be literal piracy. This would mean R* NYC didn't verify the contents either though.

Oh man that actually makes complete sense. If that's true that would be a really both oversight for both GSG and Rockstar. Man I'm tempted to refund the game but I'm not sure...

I think this might be the straw that broke the camels back. Like, Rockstar already got the occasional bit of bad PR, usually for Online related stuff, but not only are pretty much all media outlets dunking on the remasters, there's this debacle and just bad PR, pissed of consumers and whatever all around. I really hope it's downhill from here and Rockstars profits start going down prompting them to finally change sh*t.

I think that may be the reason... but then there is still console versions with the 'unwanted' tracks... so why removing pc version? I don't think including files with dev comments or files that are open to modding justify such overkill mesures.

"No Digital Game or bundle purchases will be refunded if there is more than two hours of playtime collectively associated with the games in the transaction"

Yeah so f*ck me now I can't get a refund because I decided to try your stupid game yesterday. I should have waited for the steam release, at least they would have given back the money for sure.

I can't believe I'm about to say this but Rockstar you just lost an unconditional fan.

I still think it's overkill to bring down all of the Launcher services if the issue is with the contents of the Trilogy. Just delist the Trilogy and say there's been an issue with the PC version or something. Both things are bad PR, but at least people could play the Online games.

Yeah, like why can I not play story mode RDR2 because someone forgot to remove some songs? I've now been forced to download an offline crack for a game I've now bought twice. (XB1 and PC ultimate editions.)

Yeah, definitely just put in a refund request. The $60 bucks isn't sh*t to me but I'm doing so as a matter of principle. Installed GTA:SA via Steam, slap it with DEP and pretend the last two weeks on this forum was all a fever dream. :kekw:

None of you are real. You're all in my head.
