"Vice City DE" is the censored "Haitian Friendly" version

Recommended Posts

16:20 proves for sure it's the censored Haitian friendly version. Avery's references to the Cubans and Haitian's has been removed.

It's not even well executed, the cut is obvious in the audio and there's a couple of weird awkward silences now where the video plays the animations but without the dialog.

Here's the original for comparison

I had to replay that cutscene about 3 times because I was in shock. Such a letdown

By far the most egregious example is the cutscene at the start of Trojan Voodoo. This is the original uncensored cutscene:

Now check out the same cutscene in the definitive edition at 43:10. It doesn't even make sense now

Wow this is really disappointing! I didn't even understand what the mission was about (Trojan Voodoo sounds a lot different in the original) :))) Thank heavens I got the original version.
So far I only like GTA 3 with some small (but acceptable) exceptions, I hope they'll sell it separate from VC and SA soon

They got cut in 2004 because it had backlash back then.

Yeah I know it's an old cut but I did hold out hope that with it being called "Definitive Edition" that maybe they'd treated it like an "uncut movie" release and just put everything back in, censorship free.

I've always found it perplexing that on digital retailers like Steam they had the original non-censored version, even though the 'Haitian-friendly' one had been around since 2004. The edited scripts in the Cuban missions is what made me stop playing the 10th Anniversary edition. Oh well, at least I still have the original version on my Steam account.

For PC, I do believe modders can completely reverse all this censorship crap. And I don't normally use mods except for this sort of thing.

Between this and the radio stations (presumably) being gutted down further, "Definitive Edition" is more tongue-in-cheek at this point.

(But not on Steam, the Steam version was uncensored until the very end)

Pretty sure that was a mistake on Rockstar's part but they didn't care to fix it. Even the soundtrack was completely intact in the Steam version which definitely wasn't intended at all when every other subsequent re-release had several of the songs removed from them.

Yup. This is one of the few times when their lack of care worked in everyone's favour lol.

Probably. They even pulled VC from sale, and there is a seperate (presumably censored and song stripped) "release" that you can find on steamdb...but for whatever reason when it came back it was untouched, only missing Running With The Night, which only ever appeared on PS2 anyway.
