From what videos I have seen I cannot wait to give it a play though, but until I have played videos can seem completely different.

I've never liked how Grand Theft Auto: Vice City looked, but Vice City looks really sunny in this remaster.

Well, at least it's not as creepy as the original.

My first screenshot.

I cannot describe enough how great the new lighting, reflections etc looks in motion on a decent 4K tv. The parallax interiors make the game world feel so much more believable.

Vice City was the one that busted my definitive edition cherry and it’s what I plan on playing the most. f*cking love this game and love it even more now.😎😎😎

Like I said in the GTA III praise thread, the game just makes me smile and I look forward to all sorts of shenanigans in Vice City. Only did the first couple of missions and had a plod about, was too keen to jump into San Andreas, lol. Fun makes you smile, and forget that crap called real life, this did. Good stuff!

Oh and incase anyone’s wondering Apartment 3c is still in the game.🥰🥰🥰

Vice Point Mall had a lot of effort put into it - a bunch of new "fake interiors" added on both floors, which are super interesting to glance into. Among them is a beauty salon, grocery store and a clothing shop. It's only window dressing but it makes the game world seem so much more authentic.

All of the fun comes from exploring the new background details. Gotta give credits where credit is due, sure the anachronism is bullsh*t, but they really went all out on the storefronts.

It's really liminal, and I'm a sucker for liminal spaces.

I literally spent about 20 minutes or so walking around the mall and it’s impressive how detailed these parallax interiors are.

I don’t think I’ve seen a single building/shop front that doesn’t one. It’s actually quite mind blowing considering it’s an almost 20 year old game with a modern facelift.

I'm not sure what's up with the outrage but I haven't experienced many bugs and it's mostly been a bug-free experience on my end, at least on PC anyway.

I gotta say I'm so overwhelmed and impressed with how much effort that went into remastering Vice City, it's such a day and night differences compared to the originals and I feel the upgrades are so underappreciated. I feel way more immersed into the world with much improved models and now parallax interiors scattered all over the city. And oh my... the Malibu Club feels so much better and the bar even features proper SSR refection's so the sign properly reflects. I think I should also say that the character models looks amazing in-game, I don't know about the marketing but they just look better in motion.

The way the original gameplay style and the new visuals blends together works so perfectly in my opinion. I'm still playing through the story but I'll say I'm enjoying the hell out of it and I still think the remasters are so underappreciated as a passionate fan.

Couldn’t agree more.

Now I’ve seen for more characters than just a few in still images they’re really starting to sink in.

I liked Tommy’s model before, but in game and trying on some different outfit he looks great IMO. Speaking of the characters I have to give R*/GSG kudos for retaining all the original dialogue. I thought it might sound a bit odd being so old, but it feels perfectly natural. Ray Liotta’s sarcastic yet serious delivery still feels as potent as it did in 2002.

Game is fine apart from the screen tearing I am facing. Otherwise game runs at  locked 60FPS on GTX 1660 : )

Thanks Grove Street Games & Of course Rockstar

I know I'm probably in the minority but I'm honestly having fun playing it. I might even get lynched for saying this but I do feel that people are following the herd or being overly harsh on the DE. And this is coming from someone who despises Rockstar's recent business practices (Their milking of GTA V, neglecting RDR2/RDRO, neglecting GTA V SP, the modding scandal) but of course that is for another topic.

The game looks gorgeous. Even the character models look really good imo. One thing I was worried about pre-release was how the draw distance would affect the game. Vice City's map already felt really small thanks to the oversized beach and I feared the increased draw distance might make it feel even more tiny but I was wrong. It actually feels a little bigger because of all the visual details added in. The interiors look so lively. Often times I just find myself staring and admiring the view.

The models, again I feared this might be a problem pre-release but they actually blend in really well in the cutscenes imo. I'm digging how Tommy looks in the DE and tbh he feels a lot more "alive" and badass compared to the original. Same goes for other characters as well, everyone looks nice in motion and the cutscenes look really good to watch.

The weapon wheel and the radio wheel are welcome additions. so is the 360 degree camera.

Performance on my system is mostly good. Have had a few frame drops here and there but my 1050ti is giving me a nice experience even at 1080p ultra. Luckily, I haven't run into any big bugs either.

Does it have issues? Certainly but I'm not going to mention them here as its an appreciation post.  It's brought back memories and taken me back to a simpler time in my life and so I'm satisfied.

Pretty much mirrors my thoughts too. I’m about 4 hours or so in and I’m having a blast.

Truthfully as much as I love Vice City I haven’t finished it since about 2003. I’ve played it on and off since then, but never anything more than just messing around.

Now I want to finish it more than ever. Most of the bugs and glitches I’ve encountered really haven’t been that harmful. Mostly just odd texture effects and things like that, but nothing game/progress breaking, touch wood. Still I’m enjoying it for what it is. It’s a shame how rough the launch has been across the board and yeah there needs to be work done, but I’m still eager to play and rediscover things about this legendary classic.🤙

Cheesy Vaginas

As many complaints as I have about this trilogy release, I must say Vice City looks absolutely phenomenal now. With the new lighting and the way the colors pop. It truly feels like this is how Vice City was always meant to look. Just simply driving the streets has been an absolute joy.

I'd like to say that I gave the game a try, and the some of the out dated PS2ness from the original that made me hate the game isn't rearing its ugly head, still early days though, it a lot more better in my eyes

Man. I just love the way GTA VC made me feel kind of weird with its abundance of liminal spaces, particularly in Washington Mall with the 2d shop facades. Made me think how could people get inside those things. XD

Nice seeing these 3D storefronts, though. I'd love to find out how many are in the game when I finally play it.

That’s cool to hear.😉

I know you’ve never been a fan of Vice City, but I’m curious. What is it about the definitive edition version that’s making you appreciate it a bit more?

For starters, it brought me back to Vice City in many many years
While this was my first 3D GTA and I loved it, I never revisited it regularly the way I did San Andreas
So this time I decided to jump into this botched mess I couldn't resist paying for with Vice City as my starting point
It's very much like how I remembered it, and I've been lucky to not get hit by any major bugs

When the game works as it should, it really is a lot of fun
I'm particularly enjoying flying around the city in a helicopter

So, tl;dr, I'm enjoying Vice City again in a while thanks to the DE, I guess?

I think this is my favourite of the 3. Think they’ve done a good job with this one. It’s not perfect by any means but I’m enjoying it.

The controls mainly, using the Kruger in the Diaz mission where you and Lance over see his drug deal back on the PS2 was not a fun weapon to use and a total pain in the ass, with the updated controls here I had no trouble with that mission

Another thing

I'm glad they put Running with the Night back into Flash FM

While I'm sure most people will not see this as a big deal considering losing Billie Jean is already a big loss to Flash FM

But as someone who never got to play the original PS2 release before this was taken out, it's a great feeling to drive around with it playing

In fact, I had it playing in a timed mission and I hated getting out to snipe some guy

It's such a good song

So thanks, DE

(I just hope that this isn't a mistake they'll patch out later)

CynicalMexican

Vice City looks gorgeous. I love the beautiful blue look at day and the 80s purple vibe at night. So happy they got the original art teams to help with these remasters, yeah they are different from the originals, but that's what happens when you re-do these environments and palettes on modern hardware, of course it will look drastically different, but Rockstar's vision is still there.

Whenever it'd rain in the original VC, it felt like I was in Liberty City. Thankfully it doesn't apply here.
