WDTOM is Thomas Williamson, CEO & Co-Founder of Grove Street Games indeed. All their notes were still indicated as War Drum. It just hurts and sucks to see this.

 

Tom has a passive aggressive attitude in general, I don't know why he's like that. Sounds like the development was tense. Rockstar's Team that was involved and help direct this Trilogy were serious about this, but it seems like Grove Street Games had a hard time doing the same.

I tried to ignore some of the bugs because i been enjoying SA, but the invisible bridge is hilarious (or sad, given the price of this "Definitive Edition"). Its like they didnt even test stuff like this.

GSG's website with so many bells and whistles. "Our studio is so cool, we accept diversity, our employees don't need to work 10 hours, no crunch, good work environment etc etc etc."

While those code comments don't necessarily reflect how things go out in the studio, all of that comes crashing down when you look at them.

It's like the Homer Simpson meme in which he fakes being skinny but behind him is all the fat wrapped around and hidden from Marge.

 

Then you look at the games themselves and it smells even worse. Fishy stuff.

I've been having a bit of trouble getting up to level 12 in Vigilante, but they did me wrong on my latest attempt. So here I am on level 5, driving around the Red County area and I'm about to 'apprehend' the next target. Things have been going smooth so far. I bring the criminals to justice and move on to the next level. My next target is located around the Last Dime Motel area in Las Venturas. Cool beans, it doesn't seem too far away. Here's the thing though, I haven't unlocked San Fierro and Las Venturas yet.

 

Ever tried driving a cop car through the barriers on the bridges connecting to Las Venturas near the beginning of the game? It doesn't work out too well... like, at all!

I don't really like what they've did with San Fierro in terms of color palette and weather. It feels a bit more like Watch Dogs 2' San Francisco than the original incarnation of the city in 2004.

To be fair, the name change was because where they're located (in Gainesville, FL) is actually called Grove Street, apparently.

That's the one time I wouldn't be mad if a company (T2/Rockstar) had trademarked a name like this.

I hate how they have that title as a game studio when their actual work is of very questionable quality.

 

Well, at least nobody will forget the disaster that this launch was. With all the strings attached to that "Grove Street Games" name.

Maybe this time they'll be more honest and rename to "Piggybacking on other's success Games".

I truly hate everything they've done in this game that involves flying.

  • You're not able to move the camera anymore. Up/down doesn't work at all, right/left only rotates about 80° and then instantly snaps back.
  • The radar is worth sh*t when you're flying because you have no idea where you are. This would be less of a problem if you could actually look down and see the spot you're landing at, but you can't do that anymore.
  • The jetpack is a pain in the neck to fly now. Pushing the stick forward makes it go forward and to the right. To actually go forward, you have to fly slightly sideways. Then they added this completely unnecessary and constant rumbling to the controller. It was annoying enough just doing green goo, there's no way I'm taking that thing to collect 50 horseshoes.

Nothing, absolutely nothing about the flying controls (plane, helicopter or jetpack) needed any "improvement". They could have just left them as they were and it would have been perfect.

 

Edit: I realized today that it's because of the "Modern alt" controls I'm using. Well, partially. In vehicles, the shoulder buttons are for left/right, X for handbrake and B for shooting. In the regular "modern" layout, they're switched, so X and B for left/right, shoulder buttons for shooting/handbrake. However, they didn't switch those controls for the jetpack. In the jetpack, the shoulder buttons are always for ascending/descending. In regular modern, X and B move you left/right, in modern alt, the shoulder buttons move you left/right while also moving you up/down.

In short - they managed to double bind the shoulder buttons for the modern alt layout, making the jetpack unnecessarily difficult to fly. Switching to modern to collect horseshoes is a temporary solution, but I don't want to switch controller layouts every time I fly the jetpack. Fix that sh*t, GSG.

I had no idea, thanks for that. Knowing that, I guess it was super convenient for WDS to become GSG :sadkek:

Among many other things, I'm sure. Rockstar seems to have tested these games because GSG don't have dedicated QA departments, and yet GSG seemingly didn't want to listen to them, doubted their reports, and if we're to take those code comments seriously, just did whatever they wanted. What kind of attitude is "but who can trust that" to a bug report, especially from the main company that contracted you to do a proper job? From the sounds of it, it even looks like Rockstar's QA made comparisons between the DE's and the original games (hence the "legacy no repro" status referenced above).

Listening to QA is one of the number one things you should do as a game developer. From this, to questionable changes in script they weren't consistent with (fix stuff here because it's "too hard" but not in other places, etc.), come on...

The same thing happened to me.. except it was the final level.  Now after the insane difficulty of doing this on a cop bike (I do all the side missions before story progression).. I was literally having beads of sweat roll down my forehead, as if I was a kid again.. get all the way to level 12, they spawn in Las Venturas.. so it’s literally impossible to complete.  Keep in mind I started this by the docks.   So frustrated I just turned the whole game off.

They've added a "ground haze" setting. Also, the game doesn't look so dark anymore. Sadly stuttering is still present to some extent.
