The parallax interiors are amazing to me, an extra touch which really brings the city to life. When I look at these screenshots and gameplay, videos.. it feels very close to the soul of Grand Theft Auto.

I like how the sound design is mostly unchanged as well (the one element of the original which doesn't feel dated)

They should totally make a GTA III themed pinball machine. They should also do the same with VC and SA. A GTA IV/EFLC themed pinball machine would also look pretty cool as well. V is just too modern on the other hand for that IMO.

Didn't have much time to play tonight, did Luigi's Girls and had a little cruise about.

The best praise I can give it is that it simply made me smile the whole time. And to me, that's pretty much all I needed.

I do understand some criticism, but I feel strongly that it's been a bit overblown. I get that people love these games and have for years, I do too. But I know I'll be enjoying this.

I love it because it looks even more like GTA IV.

The driving mechanics are way better than I expected, those early streamers made it look like it was pretty much the same just with a different button layout. And yeah, it looks a lot like GTA IV now in some parts haha.

I'm glad it is still old GTA III with all it's craziness.  I'm curious to see how the newer generation of gamers take to it...if they do.

Game looks and plays really nice. Bang up job from GSG overall if you're not into nitpicking.

  • Cars handle even better than OG III. I'm loving that part, they feel more weighty now. EDIT: I may just be imagining this. The collision physics are definitely improved though.
  • There is much more variety on the roads than in OG III. A Mr. Whoopee was literally the first vehicle I hijacked. EDIT: Having said that, it does tend to make RC missions less profitable/more difficult.
  • Rock solid. 7 hour session and no crashes on v1.0. UPDATE: Not a single crash across the three days spent reaching 100%. Bravo GSG.
  • Parallax interiors really add depth to the city.
  • New controls will take some getting used to after just coming off a PS2 run, but so far I'm finding them quite intuitive. The "modern drive-by" feature is helpful.

They've done a nice job with the audio on all three games. They've essentially re-mixed the whole audio for the game from the original masters and now everything sound wise is higher quality it seems, even like cutscene and mission audio. That's amazing.

They did amazing keeping the feel. It honestly does still feel like the game that was released 20 years ago. But now with smoother controls, better combat controls, and cars that don’t feel like they weigh as if they were made out of paper. All I could’ve asked for and more. Definitely gonna lose hours upon hours just having fun again.

I’m so glad they added the map to the pause menu. Huge quality of life improvement. Some missions were stupidly hard in the original due to no map other than the small one on screen and no way to set way points.

Despite some of the typical major reported issues such as random collision issues, mouse control being a bit iffy, random stutters and rain being transparent when overlaid with water, I can't say I have any major complaints. The environments, despite some upscaled textures that should be improved look impressive, lighting was extremely well done, I've gotten used to the character models and vehicles don't look jarring at all to me. I'm still getting used to some of the new controls but it's nothing impossible to get used to.

Does it need work? Oh yeah, and quite a lot of it. Is it BAD, UNPLAYABLE? No, not at all, I'm enjoying it! On to Vice City and SA...

While some of the character models in this trilogy (especially SA) need to be seriously reworked, GTA 3's NPC models are actually quite good. The original GTA 3 NPCs were kinda uncanny anyway, I like that the style is still there but upscaled. You can tell that the GTA 3 models were the ones done and checked first.

So, while the DE Trilogy has gotten a lot of hate (Including from myself), I actually think a lot was done right. GTA III definitely looks great and the style is preserved nicely. And while some of the posters are badly upscaled por from the HD universe which is annoying, I found this MainFrame poster from LCS. I think that's a really nice easter egg and it's one that actually makes sense. GTA III has a lot of positive for me so far, although it needs a lot of work and some patches to make it great.

My favourite change is that peds now have multiple palettes a la Vice City Stories, making for a more varied population, at  least superficially. This goes for all three games.

I just want to say I really appreciate GSG for increasing the spawn rate of “rare” vehicles in this game. Trying to complete the import/export garage in Portland was a nightmare on PS2.

It's not quite an easter egg, they used it on a billboard in Shoreside Vale too.

Honestly, i'm liking this DE more than i hoped. I don't even remember when i played GTA III last time, it definitely was like at least 10 years ago. I feared that it will be fairy outdated, clunky etc. But i'm enjoying this remaster more than i should. Yeah, it's not GTA V or anything but it looks really good most of the time and actually plays quite well. I think environments look great, same goes for new lightning. Vanilla rain is kinda bad but mods can fix that, and now it looks good. I didn't encounter any major bugs just some invisible objects with collision. Performance on PC could be better tho.

Overall im quite happy with this GTA III DE. Im only 7 hours in, still in Portland but there is a chance that i'm enjoying GTA III more than ever before.

I feel like the concept of the remaster was spot on, but the execution was extremely poor. Had this remaster been postponed for QA and had new modest content, people would love it more.

But it's enough for me. I like that the archaic style of GTA 3 is still preserved, and the chaotic gameplay that made it so memorable. Yet, the graphical work is really good; I feel the original style is mostly preserved, and at its core GTA 3 is still a fun game. I feel some who are hating on GTA 3 Definitive Edition don't realize that GTA 3 was meant to be played this way. I can't imagine if they tried to remake it in the style of GTA 5 or Watch Dogs 2, as an example, it would feel weird and lose what made it special.

GTA 3 Definitive Edition is clearly the "best made" of the 3 games and probably the only one that should have been released; IMO, Vice City and San Andreas should have launched at later dates.

I did 100% on PS5 last week. Loved the gameplay and graphics so far. And I am enjoying now Vice City.

There is always problems with this remaster, but I think people overscaled things.
