GTAKid667 Posted November 5, 2021 Share Posted November 5, 2021 GTA San Andreas Alternative PC Cheats and History Many of the cheats for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas were not officially released by Rockstar Games, requiring players to discover the cheat prompts for themselves. On GTAForums, edisoncarter found many of the cheats we know and love today by wiring a PS2 controller to a PC parallel port and using special software to brute force combinations. In the months following, other members joined the effort and all cheats for the game were discovered within six months, with the final cheats found by Skiller of Codemasters Project who with CMX of Code Breaker created a program that compared the hash values of button presses to the hash values of the cheat codes written backwards which had been found during earlier research. It was discovered that due to the way cheat codes are programmed, there are estimated to be over 200,000 button combinations for each cheat in the game. Despite all of the cheats for the game being found in this initial six month period, many of the found cheats were alternative combinations and not the easy to read plain text values which weren't found until the 2010s. This meant that many of the cheat lists we've all used over the years included these alternative combinations, with difficult to understand but now iconic strings of characters such as HESOYAM. In putting together the new cheats topic, I went down a rabbit hole of learning more about this story and wanted a place to preserve some of those more famous variants of the cheats we know and love today for the PC version of the game, which is what this topic is for.
