95 on Metacritic. FromSoftware keeps on blessing us with greatness.

For reference, The Old Hunters from Bloodborne peaked at 87. Why so low I do not know. Judging from all the 10/10s that keep come flying in, however, it really seems like Miyazaki has found his magnum opus. Something far beyond any DLC that has been made, ever.

I dunno about being far beyond any DLC that has ever been made, TW3's are exceptionally highly rated among several others, but it's certainly in contention. The amount of content here seems to be the big thing above all, to the point it feels like a half sequel to the game.

Not an From games fan my self, but given how influential they've been over the past decade I do wonder if any developers will see the success and inevitable great sales of SotE and try and see if they can have success with large expansions again.

Yeah, they delivered again.
I have 200 hours in Elden Ring, and seeing the DLC map I am shocked that an expansion for $40 has a map half the size of the base game, 40-60 hours of content, and nowadays AAA games sold for $70 are total crap, or at least they are not worth it $70.
This DLC is bigger than any FromSoftware game, I mean Dark Souls, Bloodborne and Sekiro.

Several reviewers called Shadow of the Erdtree a "Sequel" to Elden Ring

I highly recommend getting to convince to the Souls genre.
I tried to convince myself to play Elden Ring five or six times, it was always a crack version because I didn't want to spend money and stop playing, until I bought the game on Steam and this genre of games became one of my favorites.

One thing I saw that looked quite concerning was the percentage of Steam players who'd not beat Mohg. It might have been something like 38%, and yet that's needed to gain access to the SotE lol.

edit: But then again, if you really, really like Elden Ring, you've probably beaten that boss. I'm sure the completion rate on Souls-like games is actually quite high.

Been there done that. There are multiple aspects of From design that I don't vibe with, they just aint for me.

I did watch a bunch of ER when it came out though on Twitch, I do really appreciate a lot of their design.

Yeah, I saw that too.
But probably many players will defeat Mohg now, and Radahn still needs to be defeated.

If this were under T2, EA, or Ubisoft, it would've been slapped with a $70 price tag, or even $80, as that's what Zelnick may find to be a "commercially accurate" price.

This DLC was initially planned to be split into two, with a season pass in the works. The same that was gonna happen to Bloodborne's The Old Hunters expansion. Thankfully, that was scrapped, and it became this one big paid expansion.

I will say Fromsoft has added a sh*tton of verticality to this new map, it's bonkers.

I ran the dungeon you see in one of the trailers last night (the lava one), and those feel like a breath of fresh air compared to the base game copy-and-paste ones.

As for builds in this dlc, I'm currently running RoB and really looking into finding that new Katana at some point because I wanna to do the savage slasher build.

Never liked the overall vibe of the Dark Souls games. But with Sekiro and Elden Ring I finally got attracted to FS games and I rate these two highly because on top of their gameplay FS seem to have given them a unique soul and identity too which I like a lot. One of the few devs who still hasn't gone to sh*t and produces quality. I'm glad I gave these two games a shot. Sekiro has one of the most satisfying combats I've seen in a game and Elden Ring has a lot of variety when it comes to weapons and builds and the world they've created is beautiful.

If there's one flaw about Fromsoft's games, it's their performance on PC. Their games on the technical side are sh*te. Hopefully, in the future, they'll decide to work with Nvidia and implement upscaling.

severely lacking behind when it comes to modern standards in games nowadays though, like look at the workarounds you need to do for above 60fps...

It's not unreasonable to describe their PC ports as bad, but they are one of the best examples of a studio where their quality is so high that the topic gets largely overlooked, cause ultimately people can and do put up with technical issues (to a degree) if a game is good.

But it's still an area they need to massively improve on, because their PC ports are bad, if not terrible relative to their success on the platform. I mean, the game w/ the DLC is at over 700k concurrent players on Steam right now, 200k away from it's all time peak, and AFAIK PC is the games most popular platform lol.

Someone made a mod that implements all upscalers including FSR3 FG and DLSS3 FG. Not sure if it works flawlessly with the dlc but it has been updated recently.

It's not the "official" implementation but FROM SOFTWARE was never going to update this game with the upscaler technologies let alone frame gen stuff either way. So it's more of a "It's there if you want to try it!" for the few people here interested that also play on PC, figured i'd leave this here incase.

Made a slight mistake, my apologies, theres a separate version for each of the 2 vendor's FG technologies. But both come with all upscalers decoupled.
