FromSoftware’s ‘Elden Ring’ is an upcoming souls-like role-playing game, brought to life by Hidetaka Miyazaki and George R R Martin. The game is set in the bleak, dark fantasy realm of the Lands Between, and sometime after the destruction of the titular Elden Ring and the scattering of its shards – The Great Runes. As a Tarnished, our job as the player is to ultimately find all the shards, restore the Elden Ring, and become the Elden Lord.

I'm really surprised there isn't more buzz about this on here at least. I've never played the '..Souls games but this look great. Game just looks beautiful and should fill that gap nicely so until Elder Scrolls: VI and Avowed.

Really looking forward to this. I am a big Souls fan, and Bloodborne is one of my favourite games ever. It doesn't have the same build variety as other Souls games, so knowing that Elden Ring brings the build variety back is pleasant news. I am also interested how they will tackle open world, hopefully we could explore the main areas in any order we like. I purposely haven't been following the news much, but I recall that one of the old leaks said that we might get new abilities after completing each area and those abilities will sort of dictate what strategies we can use in other areas. If that's true, it would make for a great replayability.

I still have to play Sekiro, so I might get to that first soon. I love these games, but I usually take a long break after completing each one and focus on something else lol. They can be demanding and I don't really consider myself good at them.

The tests were long filled up before you posted this, but yeah the game is really fun so far.  Looks gorgeous, even on last gen consoles.  Can't wait to play this on PC.

Exploration in Elden Ring looks sooo good. I'll be sinkin time in with this!

Agreed, usually open world games worry me because developers do not reward exploration, but with Fromsoft they are big on making sure every little nook and cranny potentially has something worth checking in on.

Elden Ring is that game I almost forget and then remember and get very excited for. The world just looks so beautiful. Have a peak at a section of the map and it looks very curious. I just love the whole art direction of this game. It think it's speaking to my tastes much more than The Witcher does.

Dropping a few more screenshots to see if anyone gets bitten by the mood. I remember I think it was @meta187 that dropped some Skyrim screenshots pre-release that hooked me in. Can't remember the exact screenshot but it finally just clicked with me. I wasn't a fan of fantasy before then. I was pure GTA and definitely more into "realistic" games. So glad I was able to branch out. And while I enjoy the The Witcher, the look of it, the art direction never clicked with me. Probably because it was my second fantasy game. The psychology is that it's not Skyrim - it's different. It's like the rebound girl the after your long-term relationship. She's nice and fun but it's not your ex! :D 😛

It's coming February 25th. I shall be getting this day one.

My only fear with Elden Ring is it is a From game...and I'm just not that good enough of a gamer to handle them.  I've tried...I've tried.  I sure hope it has that casual 'live in a world' feeling like Skyrim and not an endless respawn/death loop as you try and kill one difficult enemy like the Souls games.

The first game I'm excited for in over a year and a half. One of the few AAA developers that still remember how to make games.

Lots of people are pissed off at From for once again borrowing gameplay mechanics from their older titles, but that's how it's always been done with them. The foundation laid by Demon's Souls all the way back in 2007 is still as solid as a rock; all they've been doing even since is expanding on it in a great fashion.

I hear you on that. I've never actually tried any of the Souls games but I've read about them and watched reviews. There's an inner masochist in me that kind of wants to try some really difficult games as I find them very rewarding when completed. Most games I play are a little casual in terms of difficulty. I may die here and there but ultimately there is so much content to get through, your better off just gliding through them.

Having a 'live in a world' feeling would be nice. I think Skyrim is great at this. With the SE edition, getting materials to build my home and having that nice house kitted out with various different armour was nice. I'm not sure Elden Rings will be like that. Although, one can hope. If it wasn't, you'd have to wonder why they decided on making an open-world game as apposed to the usual style Soul's games. What attracted them to the open world? What is it about an open-world that Elden Ring can benefit from?

Edit

From the spoiler free summary at the start of this video the reviewer says this of the gameplay loop:

"The Gameplay loop is to explore, defeat some enemies, gather equipment and reverse build based on your findings."

"This isn't Dark Souls 4. This is Souls gameplay and systems with increased RPG elements and exploration."

"Defeating bosses with friends is still awesome and multiplayer working well."

"Open world is fun but expect more Dragons Dogma than Red Dead Redemption"

The Souls games are extremely rewarding and enjoyable if you're willing to keep trying. Make no mistake, it's not one of those ridiculous games deliberately trying to f*ck you as hard as possible. It does require patience and perseverance, but if you're willing to embrace that, my God, you're in for an unforgettable experience.

I'd assume Elden Ring, albeit a bit different from the rest of the lot, will be no different in that sense.

I'm all for the art-style. Especially the Souls games. Honestly can't wait to jump in and just spend time in the world.

Atleast i'll be able to put some time into Dying Light 2 (if i pick it up) before this comes out at the end of Feb.

Just a few weeks away.

Game Informer recently had like 4mins of gameplay, most likley the last i'll watch.

The environments looks so good, though!

Never played the Souls games, boss battles aren't really my thing. But I heard about this a little bit ago and apparently it's different. So I might check it out if it's on GamePass.

It's not and probably won't be for a long time, if ever. If it goes on any service in the nearish future it'll likely be Sony's Spartacus/PS Now I'm guessing.

Gotta say tho and it's partly cause of the game drought atm, despite not being a fan of Dark Souls 1 when I tried it I'm kinda leaning towards picking this one up. It's open world and the exploration looks great, the visuals look great, the combat looks fun and I'm more used to slow clunkier combat stuff now than I was when I played DS1, but also from what I hear the game is much less ballachy when it comes to back tracking and retracing steps, more "checkpoints", if you will. I absolutely hate backtracking and retracing my steps in games and it's always been something that's put me off From's stuff in the past but it sounds much less of an issue here.

Yea based on the previews out today I think I might just get this at launch. Sounds like the game has less back tracking to bosses, more customisation in terms of build etc. Sounds way more up my street and the world looks great.

I'm leaning towards either Warrior or Vagabond, for high dexterity.

there's ten classes in total.

https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Classes

They've also shown the Bandit & Astrologer today.

Also, i know it's a Souls like game. But it would be nice to see a photo mode.

PLSSSS FromSoftware...

Been looking at the classes and I dunno. Obviously having virtually 0 experience with From games I don't wanna go full send so I'm leaning towards Vagabond for the starting HP and melee, but the magic stuff looks great so I'm sorta leaning Prisoner for a swordcaster as well.

Grichka Bogdanoff

Hmm, usually I'd recommend quality/strength builds to newcomers, but ngl the magic stuff looks extremely good in Elden Ring and I'm not sure how easy it would be to pass on that lol (specially if you're not a replayer)

Yea that's it p much, I very very rarely replay games so I don't really wanna miss out on the magic stuff cause here it looks like they've actually done some fun and interesting stuff with it vs most modern AAA RPG's where you aren't missing out on anything by not using it.
