ImpalaBoy77
So in GTA 3 & Vice City, you were able to damage the vehicles fenders and they would fall off. In San Andreas the fenders do not damage or fall off. Do you think the remaster will add that damage detail back in San Andreas because 3 & VC had it? Or will we be getting a new damage system altogether? I'd love for a GTA4 style damage system although that seems highly unlikely & I doubt it will happen. If anything I'd guess it will be the same as it was on the original games. I do believe that GTA 3 & VC had superior car damage than GTA 5, at least with the way the body panels would damage. On one end, I would like to see better damage models; on the other end, it would kinda clash with the environment. From what we've seen, the damage models will probably be the same with minor touch-ups. Not something I'm crazy about, though I wonder how that would work with handling, driving, physics, etc.

suicidehummer
Yeah, it would be a huge task to actually improve the damage modeling in any meaningful way. They've already done more than I expected, and with only a 2 year development span. I just hope the handling is improved because I went back to VC recently and forgot just how bad it was. Very darty and you cannot hit a pole without spinning out of control like you're on ice.
ImpalaBoy77
I prefer the handling of GTA 3, VC & SA to GTA 5. Never liked GTA 5 handling or car damage. It's pretty horrible in my opinion. Main reason I never play the game outside of the storyline. I get no joy of driving around at all. suicidehummer

The 3D-era titles are my standard for "good driving controls in an open-world game" but I'm not sure how much of that is down to nostalgia, or my preference for arcade-style gameplay. I recently played the OG games again and it just reassured me the driving in 5 sucks. I hate how the cars handle in 5, how they explode from landing upside down, how they come to a dead stop when you crash into a smaller vehicle at full speed etc. In the old games you could push cars out of the way, now everything you hit is like a concrete wall and you just stop dead. Also the car damage sucks in 5 compared to the awesome deformation of GTA 4. damian001, Neon-Noir 198X, suicidehummer and 1 other 3
CHER0KEE
Well there was a moment in the trailer where CJ was driving away from an exploding car and we can see the wheels of one of the cars is on fire https://imgur.com/a/wLeso0L Well I think maybe we can have explosion effects like the HD era games. Just my guess. Edited November 8, 2021 by CHER0KEE Missed few lines

ChumCrumpet
Whatever they decide to do I imagine it'll be the same across the board? I can't say I know much about the development but it seems like they'd have a general game "template" that they can make each game off of? I do wonder if the damage is going to be as obvious as it was in the originals. I know it won't be damage like IV or V, but I wonder if hoods will just appear crumpled etc. DylRicho

At the same time, in San Andreas you can break headlights and taillights, and bumpers can fall off. That didn't happen in III or VC. GTA V improved on GTA IV's damage modelling somewhat with wheels falling off and more realistic affected handling, but at the same time it toughened up the passenger compartment too much. DLC vehicles don't even have any deformation. Rockstar got lazy. 9 hours ago, ChumCrumpet said: Whatever they decide to do I imagine it'll be the same across the board? All three original games were based on the same engine, which saw tweaks to lighting in VC and then tweaks to vehicle modelling and aircraft handling in SA. But ultimately, they are the same underneath, so it makes sense that they would be again. I never liked the SA explosion effect/sound though. It always felt flat compared to III and VC. So hopefully they've improved that across the board. Edited November 9, 2021 by DylRicho
