GTA San Andreas Coming to Oculus!

Recommended Posts

Forgive me if this has already been said at some point, but I've just had a thought. If GSG were developing the basis for what is the definitive edition, who is working on the Oculus port?

Is it being done in house? If so is it the main studios or is it R* Dundee / Ruffian Games, they have shipped a VR title in the last couple years (RadTV, also Unreal Engine). Whether or not they're doing the main bulk of the VR development of course is up in the air.

Surely it wouldn't be any of the team over at Oculus-Facebook right?

This is awesome!  Just saw it via Consequence on FB!  Finally confirms the rumor from a year ago that Rockstar was working on a VR version of one of its major franchises!  Now I want an Oculus Quest 2!

The leading rumor is it would be Video Games Deluxe in Australia, which did L.A. Noire VR and had previously advertised it was working exclusively for Rockstar Games on another AAA open-world title using the Unreal engine. I'd guess there's collaboration to avoid duplication of effort with Grove Street Games.

Besides the obvious (driving/flying/shooting/melee) there is a LOT of VR-gimmicky sh*t in SA that I'm really curious to see if they've gone to the effort of VR'ifying.

- Gym

- Eating food / vending machines / food stands

- Pool

- Basketball

- Dancing

- Casino

- Graffiti

- TWO PLAYER? lol jk one can dream though

It really could be a lot of VR games in one, so to speak

San Andreas has a nice road trip feel that translates very well to VR, When i did tests with VRChat porting the map was a blast just driving around and listening to the radio with friends. if any sort of multiplayer mod could be implemented after release would be amazing. I would imagine they are using the expanded and enhanced versions of models. especially for vehicles seeing as interiors look very skunky in vr (the steering wheels are basically  the equivalent to cutout png's ). The driving mechanics used in la noire vr would be perfect for this, it was the only thing really enjoyable about playing the vr case files.

Fingers Crossed most missions are in tact.  👍 definitely a day 1 purchase.

Jetpack, dates with girlfriends, taxi/ambulance/police/pimping simulator, hydras, tanks, flying school, driving school, hunter vigilante missions, arcade games, swimming, those advanced gym moves, parachuting, etc. as well.

Prostitute blowjobs will probably be cut though.

I'm legit excited to see how this turns out. I can't wait to see a preview, I just hope it's not 2+ years away from launch or something lol. With RE4 and now SA coming to VR, it's definitely piqued my interest in picking up a headset. It was mainly just shallow, gimmicky titles before, but now we're starting to get some real substance on there.

What a s*umbag

Huh, I don't recall this article. Guess if that's the case ( haven't read the whole article, just the headline ) it's safe to say Facebook inc. ( Now Meta ) funded the GTA SA VR port? ( Similarly how they did with RE4 VR )

Im already thinking about million things to make gameplay inappropriate fun disaster.

GTA SA is most meme friendly gta, I see this as win. But Im not fan of VR.

And what about "Hot Coffee" :prismkek: ?

Curious how much dev time did it take for LA Noire VR to come out. it definitely was rough around the edges and the cherry picked mission structure was pretty disappointing, While this seems to have been in the works for a little longer. a butchered version of San Andreas in VR would definitely be frowned upon. Seeing as the medium has gone alot farther then what was expected from VR in 2017. there has been more titles that have pushed what vr can be "interactivity wise". if anything there would be more thought put into what the game structurally can be in vr. I definitely dont expect boneworks levels of interactivity (please let me be wrong lol) but there is so much going on with how the character control. "climbing fences will be interesting"  I dont think we will be seeing the cutscenes in full vr. probably akin to Resident evil. unless they have streamlined the warping characters do outside of the camera view.

Just for the love of god let it be just san andreas in vr. no pulling punches. Ole zuck can afford to throw that kind of money at the project

If it's just the same game in VR that would be a failure. As the surprise wears off we can start to think about what parts of the game really need to be different in VR. The basic mechanics of GTA gameplay need to be solid and stay true to the original and there may even be third-person. Where we could see the most new content is in GTA:SA's many minigames. Obviously these beg for complete VR remakes. In their original form the mini-games flirt with first-person gameplay and sensory feedback, so it would be a huge miss not to develop the ideas for a true VR platform. Pool needs to be VR pool. The gym needs to be a VR gym. Basketball needs to be VR basketball. Casino games need to be VR casino games. Dancing needs to be VR dancing. If they don't rise to VR gaming expectations in these little self-contained activities that have been done in VR before, this will look very lazy and incomplete.

You are thinking same game in terms of nothing changed to adapt to vr. this is what i was talking about though. everything that was in san andreas needs to be in san andreas in vr form. nothing less. where la noire  vr skimped on many aspects.

For instance, many vrchat maps have interactivities like playing pool. or another with very nice dirt bike controls that i would expect the sanchez & pool to control like but more refined.

playing san andreas in third person vr standalone same game no changes would not be very fun at all.

Just how they will handle locomotion i am very curious about, they were on the right path once they added full movement locomotion with la noire vr. but shooting and the fighting combat felt bad, where driving was fun and enjoyable to drive around in the city as limited the content was while doing it in the game..

I'm more surprised that the Zucc thinks GTA SA is "one of the greatest games ever made"

I am 99% sure he isn't sincere. He is talking about GTA SA so he is going to say that even if he never played the game.

How much weirder would be it in VR than in FPS mode? I mean in FPS mode it works fine, a bit shaky but it isn't vomit inducing. Or would the player have to replicate some sort of climbing movement?

I wouldn't say he's a massive influence on the gaming community but with GTA SA Definitive launching soon, as well as Oculus, if he says it's one of the greatest games ever made it'll definitely boost sales
