Sounds really cool, but from what i understand the games are ran on the quest itself? How is the game going to run on a tiny headset you wear on your face (wouldnt it melt your face???) that has to render frames twice (one for each eye) and framerates above 60 to avoid nausea?

I would imagine that mission where you fly a plane and parachute onto the dam to blow it up would be insane in VR, but how would that work? Flying the plane in VR would suck!

Yes they run on Q2, it's a standalone VR device. lol It won't melt your face, and it renders 90fps per eye, it even can go up to 120fps per eye.

I can see some missions completely removed or at least changed to work in VR, but only time will tell. Hopefully it won't be a super cut down version.

What is this, an out-of-season April Fools joke?

Jokes aside, I wonder how much of GTA San Andreas is gonna be playable in VR? Is it gonna be the full game or a select few missions from the original game like the VR version of L.A. Noire?

L.A. Noire's progression is like a linear point-and-click adventure game, requiring interaction with a lot of clues and very large facial-performance capture conversations. It made sense to shorten the game rather than rework everything and try to make it all fit in VR. GTA San Andreas, although the new version is 27GB, past mobile versions have been as small as 2GB and still contained all the missions. If they can figure out driving, shooting, and melee in VR, that carries through most of it. There isn't the whole pick up and examine every object thing.

Well, this was unexpected. Wonder if they somehow use the remaster since the release timeframe is so close to each other. Would seem logical, but as it's a VR game it's a different thing.

Anyhow, this is awesome and to be honest: This idea was in the back of my head, that there would be a VR GTA someday. The remaster sparked that idea, even.

I hope it's gonna be good. If the RE4 VR version is anything to go by, it should be.

RE4VR is really good, I'm currently playing it.

I have soo many questions, like, how will cut scenes work? How will eating work? How will CJ's body change work? How wil gym work? How will  melee combat work ( It was god awful in LA Noire, so hope they won't repeat that ), How will minigames work such arcades or casino games, How will dancing work?

Man, I just hope they will do this right. Like I can see them cutting a lot of stuff, but they could also change stuff to work really well in VR. I just hope Zucc didn't blowed the whistle on the news waay too early.

I am not worried regarding power, Quest 2 can handle the Android build or the really simplified DE version. What I think need a complete and total rework are the controls:

  • Driving, just joysticks or wheel grabbing?
    • What about bikes? BMX jumps :D
  • Swimming?
  • Climbing

Anyway, RE4 was announced on 15 April 2021 and was released last week (half a year). So yeah, fingers crossed we get it after GTA V E&E and before Q4 2022.

It's amazing also that there weren't any leaks about it, we did know that VGD was hiring/working on a VR game for Rockstar, but nobody really knew it's going to be San Andreas.

Only matter of time Twitter '' Insiders '' start being like '' Oh we knew about it but it wasn't really newsworthy so we haven't said anything bout it ''  🤣

I asked Oculus on Twitter if it was the classic version or definitive edition, but they just said they'll share more details on gameplay when it's available. So that must mean they had announcement rights but Rockstar will market the rest, maybe it'll be mentioned on the Newswire tomorrow.

It's just that GTA is an action game and all the missions are designed to be played from the third person view. You lose lots of "precision" with the vehicles if you're supposed to look inside out from the vehicles; I'm thinking early missions like picking up crates with a forklift, doing drive by while ensuring your passengers get a good shot at the other car, dirt bike trial while following train (can you even see the guys on the train roof from the ground?) Let alone plane and helicopter based mission and picking up stuff with them from the ground. Although I kinda assume you are able to, and often even forced to, switch between fpv and tpv

They could either delete certain missions such as forklift one ( which would suck ) or they could even add third person driving option, It could work.... maybe

RE4 for example does a lot of stuff in third person, and it does kinda work, no motion sickness or anything.

If this is based on San Andreas: Definitive Edition, it's fair to assume that a lot of work has been done on models, details, environments, etc in order to look presentable in first person. The original game was NOT made with first person in mind, I can't imagine them porting over those poopy 2004 graphics.

I would think it makes more sense to be the definitive edition. UE4 also supports VR, and the definitive edition games should also run on mobile and switch no ?

So that means they've got some lightweight version in preparation, don't see any reasons to use the old version.

We'll see.

Really intriguing!

Like you guys, I wonder if this is going to be the DE version and if it will be cut/censored or not.

Let's hope it will come to other headsets later as well.

Also strange they haven't start with GTA 3.

I always told myself that I would jump into VR when a GTA game would be compatible, but my allergy to Facebook tells me otherwise 😰

As a side point I was surprised to see Zuckerberg so enthusiastic about GTA after the parodied him in V. Then again, with all the damage Facebook has done, maybe he thinks Jay Norris is a flattering projection.

Intriguing that GTA is coming to VR. I don’t own a VR headset though, and I doubt I’ll get the opportunity to try. But for big fans of San Andreas I can understand the appeal. If it was GTA IV and I could play CnC in it just a few times I’d fork out the cash for the hardware.

fk oculus where is steam vr r*?????????????

not even using revive would work as it not a pcvr game its a app...

This will help VR a lot! VR needs big games that everyone knows to make it a standard. As someone who uses VR for three years now I am soo happy by this unexpected news!

Except if it's releasing exclusively on one device in a already niche expensive market, I wouldn't say it is. PCVR and PSVR players will be missing out.
Not even other Oculus headsets like Rift S are allowed to play this game, it has to be the Quest 2 which is a big concern to people who takes their privacy seriously because of Facebook/Meta and if not, it's still another hundreds of dollars of investment to people who already owns a VR headset if they want to play GTA SA in VR.

Even if it is the original version, I have a feeling Facebook wants the game censored for modern sensibilities anyway like they did to Resident Evil 4 VR.

Just found out that the Facebook company has been renamed to Meta recently.

Geez, talk about dropping all the bombshells in one month!

If they are planning to use the Definitive Edition of San Andreas for the VR version, I'm curious to know whether they've snuck first-person mode into the entire trilogy...
