I just don't see it not being DE, they have to port it to a new engine to work in VR... Would be a bit pointless to also keep the old graphics considering graphics haven't aged well, not they are really designed to be seen that up close.

Can VR headsets handle games this big? San Andreas DE grew a lot.

I think it'd be wise to brace your selves for cut content here. There's a lot of parts of the game that won't work well in a VR situation and will either have to be completely changed or out right removed for a good VR experience.

I'll be very surprised if there's not big things like select missions changed or cut to smaller stuff like fight styles cut, as they'll probably serve little to no purpose with motion controls.

Any parts of the game that require a third person camera will likely change, though saying that it's not impossible to adapt them. Astrobot is a game played from a top down third person perspective and it works brilliantly... but it was designed from day 1 around VR.

Yup, it's to be expected some missions will be cut or completely changed, prime example would be LA Noire VR.

You mean game size? Yeah they can.

I wouldn't care a bit if it was heavily restricted version, even more like "experience". I think it's obvious that it can't be a complete experience and original features have to be heavily simplified. It just wouldn't work at all otherwise, but it's still better than no VR GTA.

Not necessarily the game size itself but I suppose that's close. What I meant was that L.A. Noire on VR only had a few cases. Was it hard to do the whole game in VR or was the game too big?

The Quest 2 is equal in power to a top of the range smart phone/tablet I think, it does have a good chunk of RAM as well which will help with open worlds. It can 100% handle SA but I dunno about the DE version, it'll probably optimised down if it is the DE version.

Though I do wonder if they'll have a desktop powered version available as you can plug the Quest into a PC.

Considering DE will be optimized/ported for phones after all, I can see it work on Q2

That's true, VR however needs to run at a higher frame rate than you typically see on mobile and console (90fps+) and, not sure how the Quest 2 handles VR, but due to rendering two images VR games typically require more power just through that as well.

I mean yeah, duh, vr needs to run at stable constant frame rate to avoid motion sickness.

Regardless, I just don't see them using classic version for VR, no matter how long in development VR port is. Like Car interiors need complete remodeling for VR, all weapons need to be remodeled for VR, etc..

I have a feeling this might be a fork of the DE version but reduced to be VR-friendly.  The DE has also been in development for a number of years so I can see that being the case, just sharing code between GSG and VGD as they go. It will likely be like LA Noire Case Files, where it didn't have all the cases and features.

I hope it won't, LA Noire in general as a VR game aged rather poorly.  VR as technology is still super young and with each year it gets different and better. They can do so much wonders in VR, so hopefully this will end up something amazing.

Now, I wonder when Rockstar will say something or hopefully show something officially about it. I just hope they wont stay silent for months now considering it got announced and all.

It sadly could be a possibility we won't see anything soon considering Zuck didn't show any gameplay or pics, like they did with other games during the FB Connect stream.

If tomorrow we get regular DE news, maybe we'll get some info about the VR version, but I have a feeling the VR version will come close to the mobile version in 2022.

What is this, an out-of-season April Fools joke?

Jokes aside, I wonder how much of GTA San Andreas is gonna be playable in VR? Is it gonna be the full game or a select few missions from the original game like the VR version of L.A. Noire?

Sounds really cool, but from what i understand the games are ran on the quest itself? How is the game going to run on a tiny headset you wear on your face (wouldnt it melt your face???) that has to render frames twice (one for each eye) and framerates above 60 to avoid nausea?

I would imagine that mission where you fly a plane and parachute onto the dam to blow it up would be insane in VR, but how would that work? Flying the plane in VR would suck!
