In-game, he actually speeds up 3 songs to around 140 bpm

Nothing unusual about speeding a track up in DJing, often makes it sound better if it suits your mix. 140 range is an average tempo for techno or trance. I've listened to more happy hardcore than anything in my life and that genre always seems to be between 170-182. Every source track gets sped up to suit the mix.

Might be another unspoken rule to keep the BPM consistent throughout the whole mix. There could be some exceptions, since it's a creative occupation. Better to ask someone other than me for advice since I'm just a music enjoyer.

Just a thought for suggestion, maybe you should try downloading MixMeister and the Generation Records tracks and mix RISE yourself on software, then mix it again on your own physical hardware and see what you learn from it. Since it's music you know well already you'll probably have a great time working with it.

What kind of ticks me off is that people say Rise is solely Trance. Imho Shake and Deep Time are not Trance... maybe Minimal Techno at best.

Yes, Shake and Deep Time are House tunes, maybe Innerbattle too, as both Slyder tracks are Trance.

Since we are talking about DJ mixes, I'm not doing a software mix (and I find it more difficult than mixing it real time). And yes, It's normal to keep BPM consistent through out a mix but there are exceptions where you do multi-genre mixes. In the case of Rise FM actually I would rather start the first tunes on about 135 BPM since it's much closer to their original tempo and then transition to 141 BPM with Slyder - Score. I remember for a long time I didn't even know that the first 3 tracks are actually slow ones until I get to hear the standalone tracks one day.

I actually did that some time ago on Serato but never managed to recreate the original gta 3 mix :)))

I considered Innerbattle to be closer to progressive Trance, with its lesser focus on melody than average Trance, the presence of the supersaw and the acidy bassline. That said, I like the Slyder tracks (well I ain't a fan of the vocal sample in Score tbh lmao) and Innerbattle is probably my favorite one of the bunch, but Shake and Deep Time are imo quite ehhh and kinda stain the whole mix... I'd rather they featured other tracks from Generation Records and there are quite a few great ones out there. Heck, even the original mix of Shake is a lot better imo. Just my personal opinion tho :) Trance still remains my fave music genre to this day but ultimately it was MSX FM that made me start listening to electronic music and make my own junk.

Speaking of, what's the BPM of Innerbattle? I tried mixing it in some of my mixes but I didn't have much success ;-; 138?

Here's a screenshot of my analyzed Rise FM playlist from Rekordbox. This is the tempo of all the tunes (at least the rips that I have but trust me, they are good ones). And just like every vinyl rip - the BPM is not an integer number so you have to deal with this too.
rise-fm-plist.png

So if you round them
Shake (Revolt Clogrock Remix) - 130 BPM
Deep Time - 134 BPM
Innerbattle - 132 BPM
Score - 141 BPM
Neo (The One) - 142 BPM

The whole mix of Rise FM runs at 141 BPM

Damn, I hate when tracks have such randomness at the end lol. Seems like I was far away from what I was going for. Thanks a lot :)

That's what happens with vinyl rips and it depends also on the turntable itself. In some cases of bad turntables/records or bad calibration of the turntable, the tempo can jitter a bit so it won't even be constant through out the track. There have been some very famous vinyl rips of the generation records discography on torrents which seemed to be high quality but they had this issue - BPM was inconsistent and it was pain to mix them. The rips that I have now were done by our fellow member @Helegad who did a great job and the tempo is pretty consistent there (the quality as well). I did remastered versions based on those rips.

PS: As for the tunes from MSX FM we have the same situation, even tho these are digital releases from iTunes. Maybe Moving Shadow digitized them from vinyl.

The mix from MSX FM is at 179 BPM

MSX FM in itself, since the Moving Shadow 01.1 mixtape is out there, I never really bothered recreating it. Off-topic but sometimes I like to play Drum and Bass/Jungle tracks slowed down to like 145 BPM together with some Psytrance lmao. The looks on people's faces are priceless, especially when this gets followed up by a sped up version of New Order - Blue Monday. Thanks for the tips anyhow :) much appreciated.

Some time ago I re-created the MSX FM mix with the original tunes and I can do the same with Rise FM since I got my hands on very good vinyl rips thanks to a fellow member her

Do you still have those high quality vinyl rips!? If you could share those with me or get me in contact with said member I'd be eternally grateful.

I'm currently doing a massive GTA3 fan project and if you wanna DM that would be cool too! It seems I could use your expertise possibly.

Thanks in advance!
