Grand Theft Auto - Forelli Redemption

Recommended Posts

Holy cow! It seems to be utterly fun to play! I'll download it right now. Congrats for the hard work on this!
BTW, is there a way to buy new properties? I think it's one of the most interesting features in non-official games/expansion packs. :)

Ok, I've finished with the game just now. And this is my review of the whole project:
After playing basically every TC ever released (Long Night, Vice City: Second Wave, GTA 3: Unfinished Business, LCS:Re, Shine o' Vice, and even that unfinished VCS to SA conversion), I think this main.scm script is one of the most stable out there. The game NEVER crashes, and it's extremely consistent from the beginning to end, which is an impressive feat. The missions are solid, and some of them are extremely fun to play. It's easy to notice that you was extremely hard-working for this project.

The music selection has plenty of rap music (I particularly don't like them, and this isn't exactly a problem), but the RISE FM and Flashback FM have some very eclectic stuff going on. I could even say that the music selection for these radios is better than what we see in the original GTA 3 - and many die-hard GTA fans agree that GTA 3 has some of the worst soundtracks in the whole series.

But story-wise... Oh gosh. Honestly, I think it's a train wreck. And I don't want to offend you at all, because the missions are indeed consistently fun:
Donald Love (a confident character, ice-cold cannibal, and almost an "indifferent" character in GTA 3) acts like a coward when asking for Giovanni's help (the complete opposite from the character that we seen in the original game); the already nonexistent, and rival Forelli family merges with the Leone Family in the beginning of the game (?); Maria, Toni Cipriani, Joey, Mickey are all killed by this random Giovanni guy; and the penultimate mission was the most absurd mission I've ever seen in a Total Conversion: two or three Yakuza guys are protecting Claude (and they are not allies during the game, with Claude being just a mercenarie that even kills Asuka's brother), and then you kill the most bad-ass character in the whole game (and maybe the whole series) with a single headshot in the final showdown while he is just standing - which was a piece of cake. And after that mission, I basically deleted the game from my SSD.

A nice project, with a very consistent script that never glitches, but flawed thanks to the absurd storyline.
Congrats for the hard-work. :)

A decent review. I'm bad at writing a story, but I'm still glad that you've liked the mission design at least. Well, maybe my script-writing skill will get better in the future, so it can become 9/10 for the next project? We'll see! 😄

Hate to sound like an idiot but how do i get this up and running, i tried adding it to my current games folder, and then installed it separately in its own folder and neither is working. i've got other mods like frosted winter/toughened mod working fine before, but can't seem to get this one started :(

What is up everyone? I'm not dead yet. Forelli Redemption is now available in PS2 stores! Buy NOW for 0.00$!

You are not getting that wrong. Forelli Redemption is the first ever GTA 3 modification that was fully converted to PlayStation 2. Some content was scrapped due to a console limitations, but the 95% of it is still here. Game was tested on PCSX2. Converting was pretty painful though. This would've not been possible without a help of Z0Li, who was testing all of the stuff (!), giving advises and doing some work with textures, audio and text. I also want to thank willkozz who made a box art for the game. Now you can buy DVD box, print that cover, write Forelli Redemption on DVD and then put it in your PS2, isn't that a miracle!?

Hi there, I noticed a bug. When I complete the side mission at the junkyard called "Taking Trash Out", the 'missions passed' stat doesn't increase and it also doesn't count towards 100% completion.

It wasn't happening to other players, and there are no reasons for that to happen, are you sure you haven't passed that mission before?

Wow, it's pretty impressive that you managed to make a total conversion for the PS2 version of the game! I wonder if an Xbox version of the mod is in the cards? It should be possible, in theory.

Maybe there will also be a version for the Definitive Edition of GTA III in the future. Though, I'd understand why you don't want to make a DE version of the mod.

I doubt there'll ever be Xbox version. In theory, it is easy to port mods to Xbox, but the only problem out there is that Xbox emulatror requires way more powerful pc than me or Zoli have, AFAIK. :(

Currently, I don't know about DE version. Again, it requires something better than 150$ PC build I currently have, especially when we talk about making new models

I definitely had not passed the mission before.  I'm currently doing a playthrough of the mod on YouTube.  Here is the video in which I pass the mission: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4jRr6eNAr_8

Timestamps:

12:59 - Passed "Taking Trash Out" on my third attempt.

13:52 - Saved on slot 8.

16:04 - Next save, but the slot name hasn't changed to "Taking Trash Out".  Still "Construction For Beginners", which was the last mission I passed before "Taking Trash Out".

I also tried loading that save file and passing the mission again, but the same bug still occurs.

I looked for that in the code. I made a typo, and now mission doesn't count as completed if you complete it after 'Construction For Beginners'. Easiest solution for that problem is to pass Construction for Beginners again, as it will give you the required percentage.

Thanks for the report!

That worked.  Thanks so much!

Also, the mod is great.  :)

You just install it into an empty folder. It works as a standalone game.

Good evening!

Today I reached 100% game completion of your mod. Although my next goal is to complete the storyline on Boss difficulty, I think it's about time to give you my opinion concerning the game. First of all, chapeau bas for making a lot of new content, i.e. long storyline, many side quests, different locations for collectables and so on! It looks impressive, but I think "Frosted Winter" is still higher, no offence. ;) The creativity of side missions is on high level, must admit that. However, when it comes to the storyline, I am sorry to say this, but there are few canon errors that have weaken my impressions. E.g. Giovanni owns an apartment in Wichita Gardens, exactly where Claude does. I wouldn't have a problem with that unless Giovanni used other garages than Claude. That's because it's kind of paradox that two people are using the same garages knowing it's a parallel story. Another thing that bothered me a bit is El Burro's contact location, that is Claude's safehouse. Again, it's merely impossible for him to live there because of Claude's presence. Besides this, I think I didn't notice more issues in the storyline, of course since you are making your own storyline, you could let your imagination go wild and all, but I would be more careful next time because of those mistakes, it's hard to imagine this scenario in the background even though storyline is cool.

EDIT: Oh and I forgot to mention the side mission called Battleship, which kinda doesn't work properly. What I mean is I can pass the mission just by getting out of the boat instead of driving to the destination. This should be fixed.

Thanks in advance for making this mod, it was a pleasure to play it and explore Liberty City once more!

Cheers

Version for Android is out! I ain't responsible for the port itself, so I can't accept any critics on it. But it should be fine.
