Same! I'm not even starting the game up until this mod is complete. El Pedrinio is the one rigging and getting it game ready whilst I work on the face more and other details. He's also making some of the clothes. He's the saviour of this mod since I broke my hand. He needs a lot of the credit!

Awesome update Almico! I couldn't start San Andreas without some of the cool retextures that we're made recently. I think modders really do make a big difference in the quality and re-play ability of these games. Hope you're doing well (and wishing you a speedy recovery for your hand).

 You made hair parting less obvious, huh? I like both options equally 😁

 

You know, it's so close to perfection now that it would be very hard to improve. Do you have something more in mind? To me, this Tommy looks ready for action! 🤟

To be honest I mildly prefer the previous hair, you've probably already achieved perfection on the head. Looking forward to seeing the finished Tommy ingame! Might even make me get the DE

Just when i thought you couldn't make things any better, you come in pulling off a 1997 James Bond hairstyle on my smug boy Tommy, that's what i'm talking about!
The new hair fits Tommy a lot better and it looks a lot more natural, great job so far!

@almico Also I wanted to ask you something. The previous variant you've demonstrated (aka "the third option") used to have low res textures, but now you've noticeably upscaled it. Aren't you concerned that new Tommy might look a bit too HD, while being surrounded by THESE creatures?

I was concerned until we got the model in game. He looks very stylized in the same lighting as these models. He does look better in terms of detail, but he's a main character so I can live with that. I'm currently doing a big overhaul of the head.

I imagine as you are doing that, some big shots from R* are having a sit-down on a faith of your other hand. :D

So I've mocked up a new hairstyle from an old tommy I made years ago. It's more faithful to the In-game style. More spiky, messy, short. the back of his hair is quite mullet like so I'd have to incorporate that without making it look like a crazy mans hair. Opinions?

It looks more realistic than the previous variants, but a bit too short & uneven IMO. Tommy would probably have a few harsh words with that hair stylist after they were done :D

Any chance you could also show it from the side and/or from behind?

When it comes to low poly - low resolution models, everyone has their own perception of what they see - it's like the low details leave it up to your imagination to fill in the gaps, which is why I love low poly stuff. The problem is that when it comes time to make it high poly - some people aren't going to be happy as it might not fit their vision so It's hard to find a balance. One thing is for certain - not everyone is going to be happy which is a shame, but also the hard truth. I'll try find that balance and hopefully most people will be pleased with the result.

Never thought of it that way, but you're right. Low poly seems to work that way.

But hey, I'm not unhappy, man! 😄 That's still my Tommy right there, and it's still WAY better than whatever GSG gave us - in every aspect.

Maybe it looks different when the whole picture can be seen. Hard to judge when there's only front view.

That's pretty close to perfection!

I do like the concept art in theory, but with the game being set in the 80's and Tommy having been in prison since the early 70's, the longer hair makes more sense to me - setting wise.

I have to say though, this is just my opinion, people can comment if they think otherwise, but I have to be honest I feel the latest small addition of details or modifications for the HD version can make the model veer away a bit from the original concept and the stylized WIP. I'm going to point out some things that I think would look better but keep in mind this is just my interpretation of the character. 

 

One of those details for example is the position of eyebrows kinda gives him a more angry look now, whereas the original concept he had this smarmy bad-ass but still sorta inquisitive look, stoic a bit even, his eyebrow termination towards the nose being slightly uplifted as if questioning the people and the world ahead of him even if knowing a lot about them, instead of a more mean/angry look, with them pointing more downward. 

 

His nose a bit more straight down and nostrils just slightly less outward and pronounced. 

 

Idk these are just some small things that I noticed but maybe its just me and my perception of the character.

 

I did a quick photoshop on your pic to show what I mean with the nose and the eyebrows. Its not perfect, I'm no artist and the difference is very slight but I think these nuances define the vibe he gives off. What do you think?

Hey buddy, thanks for the feedback. I'm glad you made an account. Yours is the type of feedback I like most. Say what you think needs altering, then trying to show it. Well done for that. I'm working on the sculpt more and refining things so great timing with that. 

I agree with the details. I get carried away, painting skin as I enjoy it so much, but you're right, I'll push it back to stylized more.

We've changed Tommy's face. We think he looks much more like Tommy now. Less pretty boy Bruce Wayne, creepy smirk, more Mafia ex con, bruiser, content smirk. Hope you like it as much as we do. I will update you soon :)

Yup, We've been discussing it. We will likely edit what needs improving and keep the other stuff as it's too much work to do all of them fully.
