I haven't been on the forums in years but I came back to say that this is incredible. I hope that you continue/complete your work on it and personally I think the third base you've selected was the correct choice. I would love one day for the Trilogy to have all three protagonists replaced by your superior versions!

Stay on this one. Just slap more clear/sharp textures for the face with same style and better texture for hair AND BAM! We got ourselves a perfect HD Tommy.

I looked at those 3 for now. In some ways the first one looks better than the second one, in other ways, its the other way around. But @iAbokai also has a point. The third one somehow looks the most like Tommy. Maybe because its just less detailed (+the haircut)? I don't know.



I think I just gonna mark parts of every face I like the most. I think mixing all of those features would give the best results (as long as you try to make it look like the last picture cause thats the most accurate one I think )

edit: also just noticed, in the last picture his face isn't so wide. Maybe thats why he looks better? Original 3d model didn't had a lot of details so his face looked slim

Yeah here it looks pretty accurate. I only see one issue. That part here might be a little bit too accurate. There's something uncanny about it, gives him that... neanderthal look
 

Maybe try making it just a little bit smaller? Maybe something like this? Tho I probably overdid here (I also slightly lifted his chin)

 

These five pages is a rollercoaster ride, i can not believe how much work goes into the thought process and creating a model that looks like the original and how a single little detail can create a butterfly effect and make everything look better/worse. Just making the texture a bit smaller comes it all together and made him look like an actual human.

Hey @almico, another "I signed up exclusively for this thread" guy here.

I just wanted to say that from the moment I've seen first remastered trailer, Tommy's appearance have been my biggest problem with this product. I've made a meme that pretty much summarized my feelings about the subject:

I knew that I won't be able to play this game unless one of my favourite videogame characters is fixed somehow.

When I found this WIP though, I knew I wouldn't have to look any further. You got it just right, man. Thanks A LOT for your and Pedro's hard work, what you're doing here will be a game changer for sure!

 

As for my personal preferences, looking at this comparison:

I can't help but feel that #2 is way too colorful, and both #2 and #1 may be taking Tommy's original look a bit too literate, which may be giving him a slightly creepy touch when moved into high-poly universe.

The third one though for me looks exactly right. Balanced, realistic but not too realictic, badass but still humane and handsome. That right there is my Tommy, I don't even see any room for improvement whatsoever. 

 

I'm looking forward to play GTA:VC with your superior vision of Tommy's model. Thanks again!

 

PS And you even made a 3D model for watch?? Take notes, Rockstar, for Christ's sakes, that's how it done!

PPS And as for the necklace (the doubts you've expressed in your first post), I agree that it looks more of a pearl necklace than a gold chain in the original, but yet again, it'd be weird for Tommy to really wear one. But maybe this is what R* had in mind with that low-res texture? Hope that helps.

I don't hate the new Tommy model but I can't deny this is 1000% better.

Just an update.. since I haven't put one out in ages.. I've broken my hand really bad. I'm waiting for an operation but I can't type, draw, use a mouse or anything properly. I'll finish this up when I get a chance. Sorry peeps.

Jeez. That "R*" is definitely a sign, but I'm not sure what it says. Either "you are destined to fix R* failures, against all odds", or "stay away from R*'s stuff, or else".
