May I ask what the hell is with War Drum Studios/Grove Street Games obsession with lighting up Kendl's skin tone? They also did it previously with the SA "Remaster" for Mobile/X360/PS3 except there it was all her body lighten up except her head (lmao). Seriously, you're telling me they removed the Confederate flag and replaced Zombie Elvis with LGBT propaganda, but they whitewashed Kendl? This is so ass-backward.

reserve your anger for when the game releases then. having confederate flags in the game (whilst serving no narrative purpose) is completely pointless and provides nothing whilst actively offending a large chunk of people, it doesn't need to be there and the vast majority of people wouldn't have even known it was there to begin with to notice it was removed. removing things becomes a problem for me when it's an actual important part of the story or history (like removing nazi symbols from ww2 call of duty games)

why doesn't it fit his character? you can still see what type of person his character is without the confederate flag there. nobody thought of phil as one thing and then another once noticing a confederate flag on his shirt. it's ridiculously clear that he's parodying an american stereotype without it.

Once we see actual evidence of stuff getting censored/removed to the point where it actually affects the flow of the game, then I'll join you getting upset. But, as it stands, you are getting upset at  hypotethical scenarios, the only thing confirmed is the removal of the confederate flag, which, frankly, makes sense to me and it's such a minor thing that I don't see how it could affect anyones enjoyment. The political climate and society norms have changed a lot since these games were released, some tweaks are inevitable.

A game which features alcohol, racial attacks, car accidents, murders, street gangs, hypocrisy, slurs and whatnot, yet it's an historical flag offending people. 

As the other user said, this is setting a precedent, and it'll only get worse from now on. 

 

Confederate flag has always had quite the presence in GTA. Wether if it's just for looks or adding extra flavour to a character...

I can only imagine what they're going to do to Stonewall's J's if they ever bring VCS to modern platform.

Kendl's skin tone in previous remaster was actually flaw similar to Ryder's and OG Loc's texture. They used beta repo, in which Kendl still had Catalina's skin tone (because Kendl's final model is actually heavily edited beta Catalina's skin). Some trivia for ya, all in all, it actually isn't Wardrum's obsession with whitewashing her (lmao), but North's fault for giving Wardrum early source for textures to work with.

Find that flag now. Also, where are the stars and bars in RDR 2? Most of the game takes place in the south with former slavers, klan members and neo-confederate bandits. Are there any other historically accurate confederate flags? oh yes, on one of the cigarette cards obscured in the background.

What I find interesting is it’s rated R18 now yet previously these games were rated MA15+.

 

It would be pretty funny considering the effort the Australian censorship board went to, to censor these games back in the day if it was us who got completely uncut, unaltered versions.

Just dropping GTA3 DE's ESRB rating (the only one available for now for some reason) here. I don't think there's as much "filtered out" as you think...

I'm starting to think that Rockstar's decision to pull the original releases from sale was more to do with trying to bury the 'offensive' content than anything else. I really hope they haven't changed too much. I think a disclaimer on the start screen would've been enough.. you know, something like 'these games are a product of their time and may be offensive to modern audiences'..

GTA 3 was always fairly tame. There isn't a single f-word said by the characters or peds. According to Ash, dialogue was adapted based on what was allowed to be said at the time of their release, which is why SA uses f-words but not VC or III.

Yeah they are the trailer park mafia but Phil in VCS doesn't wear the shirt with a confederate flag but pretty much same appearance like VC
