San Andreas Definitive Edition Analysis & Comparisons Topic

A good example of updating a game's view distance without altering its atmosphere too much, would be Morrowind-modding:

Now, Morrowind was designed around an extremely limited draw distance,

and as one can see in the spoiler (the first picture being vanilla, the second a custom "OpenMW" - shader). There are definitive ways of logically modernizing aspects like this.

I decided to set the draw distance to roughly match the Chiliad screenshot (Chiliad barely in view). This is about what we can expect from further up above Grove Street.

I think it would be better to have a draw distance slider in the options.

Personally, if the weather is clear, I wanna see everything.

well to be honest theyre doing a great job because other than some minor issues i really like how the game is looking, still wish they showed gameplay though

As a few other posters have explained, it's a long process to get screenshots out; they don't just pluck out screenshots and say "off it goes!"

This is something I realized very late, we often take for granted some things because we simply don't know the whole process. To people like us, it makes sense to point out why Rockstar would market something as simple as a screenshot with visible flaws and Rockstar is aware of this too but probably thought that the average gamer wouldn't notice the finer details.

great point, i was someone who was in that exact situation. i watched the trailer on a loop when it was uploaded and i loved it but when i went to the forums i started seeing people break it down and point out its flaws.

Granted, the marketing approach to The Trilogy has been very awkward to say the least.

2004 PC vs Nintendo Switch vs 2021 PC:

2004 PC version has the worst draw distance but has a higher resolution than the Nintendo Switch version while the Nintendo Switch version has a better draw distance with some textures getting an enhancement but the overall resolution is lower than the 2004 PC version. 2021 PC version is the best in terms of both resolution (4k as opposed to 1080p for the 2004 PC version) and draw distance. The LODs are also visible while they aren't in the Nintendo Switch version.

 

The Nintendo Switch version is a clever mix of both editions and will look fine on a small screen where the lower resolution won't be as jarring. It's realistic to assume that the portable vs docked resolutions would be a bit different and that the portable experience will most likely feature dynamic resolution.

Duh, why waste precious Switch resources when the police already know that they are a part of the police force? I think we should remove the word ambulance from ambulances.

Why waste switch resources, lets remove "the definitive edition" title from switch version

I really hope audio is directly coming from the characters in the Definitive Edition instead of being played on the foreground.

 

Also, I hope they also managed to catch the following issues and fixed them:

  • OG-Loc's mouth animation still has the old dialogue which they have adjusted near the end of development during Life's a Beach mission
  • During Nines and AK's, Emmet's T-shirt is red during the cutscene but turns into white right after when you have to start shooting the bottles
  • Colonel Fuhrberger has a cutscene during Home Coming whenever you stay in his house while the timer expired but it has no dialogue audio
  • During Farewell, my love... Claude is suppose to be driving with Catalina but Woozie is with her instead driving the Elegy
  • During High Stakes, Low Rider, they are using Kendl's old model while driving with Cesar that got changed later in development. You can also see this model in CJ's house with Sweet on a painting in the living room

 

Lots of flaws because of changing things up during development. Let's see if they paid attention this time

its going to make the map feel much smaller if you can see everything. Pretty stupid to see sf from Ls, because theyre 5h drive away from each others in real life.

Also there is supposed to be fog anyway because thats how the city is in real life.

I just saw Real Kev3n's video where he mentioned these things. Hooe they go the extra mile and fix these issues. 

 

After the Pier 69 mission, Cesar calls CJ but the voice used is wrong in the sense that it sounds like he is standing next to him and not on a call.

Interestingly enough, from what we've seen, the facial animations in cutscenes have been significantly improved, especially for the first two games. So lip syncing may be improved as well.

The character models look ... awkward. It's not about the level of detail but the facial expression which just doesn't do the originals justice.

That's just my opinion.

As an avid modder of GTA San An, I know the list goes on and on about these overlooked, inconsistent stuff.

 

  • Ryder's clothes look like they're made from natural fabrics, whereas his in-game model has this synthetic-looking jacket.
  • There are many unused pedestrian models.
  • There are also Law Enforcement Vehicle markings that doesn't make sense.
  • In the newer versions, OG Loc's in-game model wears a beanie, while his cutscene model wears a bandana.
  • Franklin's GTA SA model (Tarnel; Fam1) appears on Big Smoke's Cash missions, but none can be seen in Big Smoke's Crack Den.
  • ....

For some of these, they only have to copy the cutscene textures into the in-game models. And for some, they have to edit a few decals, which they apparently did already on the police bikes.

Interesting observation, I remember that the "POLICE" text doesn't exist during cutscenes and neither did they for the Nintendo Switch screenshot:

One of the smallest inconsistencies I hope they fix is Kendl being a random civilian in the Cesar race. I don't know why, but that bugged me.
