Am I the only person around here who thinks GTA IV was the last great GTA game they made?

I love the map of V but I much prefer the atmosphere, weighty vehicle mechanics, music, and 'edginess' it has that V lacks imo. They did a great job of creating a vertical map rather than horizontal. There's also more layers to it like the underground tunnel network for trains, and more interiors. Actual interiors of Cluckin Bell etc. I feel like it's truer to Rockstar's original vision of the GTA series, and V was sort of just designed around Shark cards and Online.

Gta IV was the highest point of the gta franchise so far. The writing, the atmosphere, it seems like the ultimate GTA vision that the original developers had and made great use of the technology available then. Also good dlc that synergized with different playstyles. TLAD appealed to the serious tone that original gta 4 had and TBOGT scratched the crazy action itch that gta 5 is all about now.

25mbps but super unstable here, probably not the slowest net in the world but it's still definitely going to be a bit of a hassle regardless. I have no idea why Rockstar is restricting that for PC players, are they afraid of datamining or else?

25 mbps you're gonna download this game in 4 hours, I have the same internet speed but I don't get the big deal lmao

That is factually not true. In 2001/2002, you did have many games that looked much more realistic and pushed much better graphics than Vice City. That does not mean the game is not a masterpiece, but it is pretty obvious that Rockstar was pushing for a more stylized, cartoony game compared to much more realistic and better looking titles such as Max Payne and Mafia.

In fact, I would argue that the stylish, parody-chasing, over the top graphics and animations of Vice City helped the game sell the also crazy 80's vibe and stand out.

This idea that Vice City was somehow chasing realism, where characters did not have proper fingers and moved like robots, is pretty insane. Just a Google search away. Enough with this hardware limitation excuse.

Max Payne (2001)

Mafia (2002)

Vice City (2002)

maxresdefault.jpg

Everyone, you included, seems to forget that those similar games were not nearly as content packed as Vice City. Let's review them one by one anyway:

Max Payne: Real faces pasted onto the model, no real facial animation anywhere, if you were to rip the textures from a model, the bare model will not have any facial features, save for a nose and other tiny details. It's also not an open world game, decent animations but if you think Vice City had "robot like animations" then you'll be disappointed yet again.

Mafia: A game that is made for PC, everyone who shows any pictures of the game for comparison likes to show the PC version only, I guess no one played the terrible console ports. Mafia only had missions and a big but empty city. Vice City had to be a open world game with hours and hours of content and details everywhere with both consoles and PC in mind simultaneously, that will surely affect the graphics. You are free to compare Vice City with Mafia PS2 version and see for yourself if it's really better:

Even though the answer is right in front of them, some people will choose to be blinded by hype.

I guess it's just the thrill of having the game preloaded and ready to unlock as soon as the clock hits the time. I have a really fast internet connection so it's whatever but it would be cool to see it unlock and ready to play.

I agree. Kind of. Definitely the greatest story they've told. Made me think about capitalism differently instead of being a set of short jokes and jibes that were loose enough for a younger/less invested me to miss their points.

IV is great in a different way to V, and is a more refined bit of storytelling. It's a harrowing, far more serious (although still satirical) look into the American Dream than V ever was.

V felt a little shallow on my first pass on 360, and over the years seems to (I have not kept track) have had huge improvements across PS4, and now on PC, where I have played the last 160+ single player hours of V.

I prefer playing through IV's missions as Niko.

IV feels like a movie you want to watch over and over, set in a highly detailed, dense city.

In V, despite the great characters, I feel more like I'm making the fun up in my head with what I do between them, it feels more gamey. I was never fully sold on its campaign, and playing through it has some great moments, but doesn't feel like the grand epic they achieved with IV.

V feels like a infinitely deep amount of gameplay systems based off of slapping together amazing mechanical systems from GTA IV, Midnight Club: Los Angeles,  and Max Payne 3 with a character switch button for when a system or locale gets a bit boring and you want to have a some distraction thrown at you, a-la 'scooter brothers'. It's good at being a great game, less being a great story, to me.

It was the other way around. Nobody could possibly predict the scale of success Online would eventually attain, so single player was of course the core of everything.

Idk I call BS, but a friend of mine yesterday said that he is in the process of cracking game files on series x preload, quote "process is slow, but I hope I'll get it done before release I HOPE" I called BS and he said to just wait. Knowing him, he's a programmer so maybe he could do it, but I don't have my hopes up, typically, he's not a liar, but since I'm interested in trilogy, maybe he's just teasing me. I'll keep up updates IF he shows me something with proof.

Nope, keys for preloads are stored server-side and is not the same thing as the encryption key for the released game files that is stored on your console. The last one can be exploited, the first one can't. Xbox file containers aren't really cracked yet at all not even on the Xbox One, much less the Series X!

PS4's are, but that only applies to .pkg files of released games and not preloads, same on the Switch. Preloads cannot be cracked in any current platform.

Besides, if that were the case, do you think the bajillion hacking forums out there wouldn't be on it already other than your friend? :p That's how RDR2 started to be cracked, but that was only after release.

Just 5 days away and we barely have a single clue what to even expect in terms of gameplay, music licencing, how the new UI looks, etc. How can people think it's fine for Rockstar to take people's money without answering this? These are important key questions that people deserve to know. I'm a shill when it comes to this remaster, literally a shill but this marketing strategy is god awful. If Hanger 13 can communicate better with fans with the changes for the Mafia Remakes, then I think Rockstar should be doing the same.

eventually there will be some kind of leaks before the actual release date/time

Thing is, although this was true for GTA V, not really as much for RDR2 because that fully depended on leaked physical copies and the digital versions were super locked down (unlike when Sony f*cked up and released unencrypted PS3 files). Which this Trilogy isn't going to have. Preloads will only unlock on release day, so that's very unlikely.

Hey admins, here's a fun idea:

How about you open a "praise and hype" thread to be a companion to the "complaints and criticisms" one and move every positive comment there like you instantly do whenever someone criticizes or points out something? The concept of "discussion" is lost on some people it seems.

How about those people actually criticize instead of attacking people for being positive or ignore any good point just for the sake of being right in their agenda that the game is bad?

100% in your boat.

I have faith it will be what I want.

But they are not strengthening that faith in any way, and I really expected more by the one week out mark than a few odd screenshots quietly pushed to the mini-site and retailers. Gonna have to pick up my copium prescription today it seems.

from my math ( which is god awful ) they don't count today or the day it launches so they have the countdown set up for the 10th at midnight like Spider said.
but going by the post they dropped yesterday on the Newswire waiting till midnight on the 10th won't matter cause it's 10AM when the games are unlocked.
or should i say for PC gamers like myself we get to START downloading it :sadkek:

He's just messing with ya. Think about it this way - the world is huge, full of talented people, way more talented than your friend. If there was a way, they would surly crack it before he even considered the idea

I don't think gta v was designed around sharkcards and online, at the begging they weren't even thinking about it. Buts its clear later their focus shifted and they abandoned story expansions.

But speaking of GTA IV and V, long time ago I tried to pin point why some people prefer older games and GTA V story juts dosn't click with them.  There was one common argument - in GTA V, every single character is an asshole.  Main characters, Micheal's family, Franklin's friends, every single quest giver, there's not a single character that isn't a selfish asshole. They are funny, but you can't really form a connection with those kind of characters. Sure, you had assholes in GTA IV as well, but you also had friends, funny characters and lovable idiots you remember fondly

I think Tommy looks pretty different in different screenshots.
I wonder which one is the latest model.

Then again, the vibe I am getting is of Mexican singer Luis Miguel and YouTuber Mrwhosetheboss (not the clickbait guy)

I've been looking through the screenshots we got 2 weeks ago when the trailer came out and came to the conclusion that Tommy doesn't look right because they got his eyebrows completely wrong. Example bellow.

Tommy 2002

Spoiler

Tommy DE

Spoiler

Tommy has pretty arched eyebrows that give him that 'always annoyed look', while in DE his eyebrows are too straight and thick.
