Notice how in the original you can tell it's a jacket and NOT a hoody as there's a zipper line there? Notice how the pockets are more detailed on the original where they're just a smooth line on the "DE" version? Notice how there's ruffles and creases in the original model where as the "DE" version it's just a smooth slab of nothing?

 

This brings me on to another point btw:

 

The license sticker in the window! One, why is it a bad upscale of the original PC one? This detail was even remade on the Xbox versions back in 2003...

 

 

WHY are they upscaling lower quality textures for things that are already available in better quality? AND two, why does it have a normal map? It's meant to be a sticker on a window, why is it out here looking like a fully ridged licence plate?

 

There's just soo many underlining quality choices here that throw the whole damn thing off and distract from the good.

 

It is smoothed out too much, yes but you are being overcritical. LIterally everything else in the game is a straight upgrade. The pockets are now a simple line, yes.

 

I mostly agree with the GTA 3 point, it stands out as undetailed but you're saying that VC looks worse now which is a gross exaggeration by even your standards.

EDIT: I just realized that, if it's inflated, it can't be anything but air or a gas.

The character models on VC are becoming WAY more of a distraction now, we're meant to be seeing things IMPROVE, not DEGRADE. Considering character models are something you're going to be looking at nearly 100% of the time it's fair to say they've ruined Vice City. Even San Andreas which looks like it's had less work done comes out looking better as it's at least closer and more faithful to the original model and not some fat Tommy smoothed out mess.

Yeah, even as someone who likes the remasters, Vice City definitely throws me off; it feels way too "clean" and lighting at sunset is a massive throw off.

Looks awful, see how they ruined the lights. The red ones should not be switched on on the front! (and vice versa - imagine if they did this with cars)

They messed up there but if you think the new one looks awful then how is the old one? Super awful or is it somehow the "better and original atmosphere?"

Well I've been checking this topic daily since it started but have yet to chuck in my 2 bobs worth so here goes...

 

I pre-ordered the DE trilogy as soon as it was available based on Gta III being the game that got me into gaming in the first place and then bought all the other Gta's since.

 

My main reason was mostly for smoother gameplay and the updated controls. As for the retexture I'm a bit all over the place with how the main protagonist's look. Out of the 3 I feel CJ looks the best followed by Claude and then Tommy.

 

I dunno wtf they done to Tommy, every time I look at a screen of him I get this mental picture in my head...

Claude is riding a bike and slurs insults, then bails out and drops in the river and then swims to the shore by climbing a ladder while wearing totally new clothes.
