Yeah, from what I've read, apparently certain artists (such as the Jackson estate) are just really finnicky with this stuff.

I feel like if they relicensed the tracks they would be advertising it as a feature, or they would release a trailer featuring one of the previously removed tracks. That sh*t ain't cheap and they would want us to know about it in my opinion. Imagine how the internet would lose their sh*t if they dropped a VC trailer with Billie Jean playing lol. But yeah, maybe the heavy hitters like that are un-licensable these days, idk.

I could listen to San Andreas soundtrack forever. I mean it has everything, grunge, gangsta rap, rock, punk, country, house, r&b, I really think it’s probably the best videogame soundtrack ever, competing only with gta v and vice city

It's definitely a bit of a minefield - but you're right - if anyone can afford the costs of hiring the right people and forking out the dough for the tracks, it's Rockstar. I'm sure they could get most of, if not all of the tracks back if they were willing to spend the right amount of money.

 

But I think the more high profile the franchise becomes, the more expensive it becomes to license the music - it's a negotiation at the end of the day, and it's public knowledge that GTA is one of the most profitable entertainment franchises in the world. Labels will want a bigger slice of the pie than they wanted back in '02 or '04 to relicense these tracks. Again, I'm sure they could afford it, but is the cost really worth the additional sales that will come from getting these tracks back? It's hard to say.

 

If you look at IV and V, they both have big hits, but it's not the same medley of hits that VC and SA had. They seem to be moving more in the direction of becoming tastemakers and seeking out up and coming and lesser known artists for the stations. This could simply be because it's becoming more and more expensive for them to get the big hits from major labels for what they would consider a worthwhile price. Yes, being in GTA is beneficial for an artists profile, but if you own the rights to Michael Jackson, 2pac, or Tom Petty, you don't need to worry about your profile.

One thing I found interesting in there that I hadn't considered, is how the shift to online/digital distribution (which wasn't really a thing for games in '02/'04) effects the licensing of music - here's an excerpt from the article which I would recommend reading:

'if you sync a track into a game and then make that game available via an online network, in copyright terms you are both 'copying' and 'communicating' the music. This is important because, on the song's side, copying and communicating are often licensed separately. On top of all that, copyrights might be owned by different people or companies in different countries, and rules vary around the world'

Hmm, it looks like the Trilogy seems to be releasing at 3PM UK time but I sent an email to Rockstar PR to double check with this (hopefully they respond but the messaging is very mixed with all the stores claiming different times)

I wonder how it's gonna run on last-gen hardware (PS4 and XOne). Hopefully not like Cyberblurry 2077... I mean, it's R* at the end of the day, they always pull some witchcraft, like, I'm still amazed at how good RDR2 runs on a BASE PS4 even. 

 

All I want is this game to be as polished as possible, way more than the originals ever were. The awkward models will grow on me, but a buggy game is a no-go.

I think it's as it says on the tin, different platforms will inevitably have different unlock dates. Midnight for Sony, fixed time (morning EST?) for Xbox and PC.

You're as welcome here as anyone bro, this thread is for all members, you're not disturbing anyone lol. So far I don't think there are any gameplay leaks, and currently the only trailer is the one that was released on the 22nd. Hopefully we'll get some new content between now and the 11th of Nov.

It's gonna be fine. Since PS5/XSX just run enhanced past-gen versions, the experience will largely be the same, except no 4K60
