I'm also wondering what the Ultra settings will look like, or whatever equivalent tbh. The footage we saw I'm assuming is console, perhaps except the screenshots?

Consistent with what? Their artworks? If so I strongly disagree, imagine GTA III with characters based on their artworks, you wouldn't recognize half the cast.

If you are talking about models being consistent with each other, then yes, definitely. The best example for it so far is the AK compared with other weapons shown.

 

As for Umberto, he looks great in my opinion, the textures look like plastic and rubbery like every other model but it doesn't bug me as much, at least from this footage. He even has wrinkles, face details etc. which models like Ken lacks and makes them look terrible.

It's a good thing skyscrapers are now lit up like a christmas tree, shame it's almost entirely a different game in a visual sense.

Well I get where you're coming from. I've stated earlier as well, my only real gripe so far with this remaster is the shoddy character models. For what it's worth I appreciate the upgrades that went into the maps (although some areas like Ocean Drive I don't like what they've done) but the character models are a big part of the game, you see them constantly front and back and upclose in cutscenes. Plus, the maps look pretty realistic for the most part but the goofy character design doesn't fit in the world at all for me, it just seems like there was a clash of ideas during some point in development and a compromise had to be made so we ended up with this weird mismash. I don't know.

It's mainly the night time effects for me. Maybe I'm spoiled by watching too much Miami Vice but I feel it's too bright at times. I like the neon lighting and glows which is cool but from the pictures I saw I wish it'd be a little darker to really bring out that night time, 80s outrun type effect. Just a personal thing really.

i logged well over 100 hours (on the conservative side, likely more than that) on the ps2 versions of all of them (gta 3 was probably a little less but definitely for vice city and san andreas), and the only bit of visual 'atmosphere' that i can see missing (ignoring the character material / texture situation) is things like the low render distance shrouding everything in fog and the overly saturated sky colors. bad rendering isn't atmosphere, and otherwise these games feel very closely related to the spirit of the originals.

If you going to have those kinds of expecatations, keep 'em for GTA VI or whatever Rockstar's next new project is. The Trilogy doesn't need that and realistically it wouldn't be The Trilogy if it was.

Yeah they're real life pictures. But if this several year old mod can make a nice moody night time atmosphere like this:

Then so can this remaster. No need to put me down by saying stuff like, "Keep those expectations for GTA 6!" which will probably come out when I'm 60, by the way. I much prefer this look of VC than to the remaster but if course no one's gonna want to hear that and get their panties in a bunch.

The real life photo you posted does not look like that screenshot you just posted though? They are on two opposite paths of style. We haven't seen VC (Definitive) in peak night time yet, just early evening sunset or overcast by storm.

I've just realized that in the trailer grass in some parts of Liberty City is very detailed, yet grass in Vice City and Los Santos seems to be rather flat.

 

I wish it was as detailed everywhere.

I think 3 had more development time that the other two and their polishing up VC and SA up until gold

the LOD on them is super low, akin to what i'd expect from mobile. that blurriness wouldn't be happening on a desktop platform. it's wishful thinking, but, given that R* trailers always tend to look worse than the final product in some way, perhaps this is why the materials are so f*cked up on the characters? the meshes themselves are serviceable, but the materials are dull and lifeless leading to the Noooooodle Arm effect

at a first glance, yes it is impressive enough. the reason it sticks out as potentially mobile / lower settings to me is because of LOD - the foreground likely won't change that much from platform to platform. it isn't 2006 anymore, mobile games don't have to look terrible.

in a word: also yes! the PC version will almost definitely feature extra things like properly rendered blades of grass, nicer reflections, and better LOD / draw distance (as noted above, this was the biggest giveaway for me that maybe they're using some differing settings, especially when contrasted with other screenshots).
