Made a few edits to our old boy Tommy. Honestly, he's not too far off - this didn't take much time to transform. I'd like to see modding cracked not long after release and tweak stuff like this for real.

This I agree with. Hopefully the games have fairly customizable graphics settings that allow people to change the colors, filters as they wish.

 

GTA 4/RDR1 had decent settings when it came to this. Mafia 2 had extensive settings as well.

There seems to be some revisionist history going on at the moment and it's a little sad how everyone, including "fans", are now calling the original games trash with terrible graphics, etc, and that Rockstar have finally blessed them with a playable version of these games.

 

I don't know if anyone is calling the original games trash, at least not anyone with a brain in their heads. Saying any of the Trilogy games suck because we are insanely comparing them to modern games, with modern tech, on modern platforms, would be as absurd as saying Tetris or the first Mario game from the '80s sucked because it didn't compare to GTA III. The Trilogy games are awesome, and they have aged surprisingly well for games that are 20, 19, and 17 years old. I agree with your points about this new iteration of The Trilogy. We don't even know if Rockstar will be re-upping he licensing for all the music they took out, at this point. People may be paying $60.00 for a Trilogy, that in my opinion (or at least for my money) just got a bit of a facelift, AND may actually still have a painfully truncated music sound track.

 

I love the Trilogy games. Enough that I would rather play my original PC versions with all the original music than to play the so called Ultimate Edition with less music. If that's the path Rockstar/Take2 are going. The thing about graphics and the facelift this Trilogy got is that for me, after about 30 seconds, my eyes adjust, and something magical happens. I forget ALL ABOUT how much modern games look ten times better than The Trilogy games currently look on my PC, and I just get immersed into it. So what exactly is the enticement for a player like me to buy the new version, especially if the sound track has been essentially neutered? I assume that these are some of the same points you're making as well?

I agree, this looks gorgeous. But look at the characters. Mostly the environment upgrades are on the same level in all 3 games so when people say 'best' or 'worst' they usually refer to the characters, not the environment.

Oh of course, for full price they better have most of the music back, if they can afford to throw money at GTAO's radio stations then surely they'd spend the money here for these "Definitive Editions".

I think this boils down to the unfinished nature of some of the VC shots compared to the others in the trailer. 
I really like the Skimmer shot. It makes the whole thing look like an actual modern game. But then check the Ocean Drive part afterwards. While it's still a big improvement, it's still lacking in comparison. Less detail, that sidewalk still jagged, no vehicles in the distance. But looking at the rest of the trailer, I believe it's just an in-production thing.

Map and Interiors are actually the better rated things here, it's the character models that seem to be the main complaint.

Yeah, that would be a big chunk of it for me. I am totally open to at least the idea of paying full retail for this if the radio stations are all made whole or...perhaps that plus new songs? Nahhh! Hahahaha I think we all know that made whole + new material would be a non-starter, but I can dream, can't I?

 

I also find it odd in a very cool way that you and I are actually very much on the same side in this debate. Makes me almost long for the knock-down-drag-out fights we used to have over the IV vs V debate. JUST KIDDING. Sorry, that last line was a bit of a sh*t-post because someone in this very thread so desperately tried to attack my position on not wanting to pay $60.00 for the new iteration of The Trilogy by contorting all reality to suggest that this is somehow connected to those aforementioned debates. Seriously, though, and on topic, I think it's GREAT that Rockstar is commemorating the 3D Era GTA games. I really do. Regardless of my being underwhelmed by the visuals after seeing the awesome map mods and how voraciously Take2's legal team did everything they could to squash them. By the way, slightly off topic, I would be open to buying this for full price, if they were adding LCS and VCS UE's as well, so that it would now be $12.00 per game instead of $20.00
