I've always been a fan, but now... oh man!

Those illumination effects though.

GTA 3 sucked ass when it came to lighting and it's nice to see it come to life.

Do we know if things like hidden packages and weapon pickup will be in the same place?

No reason to change them, if they don't add more they'll probably just leave things right where they were.

Either it looks sterile as a hospital, or you keep the original look which was plagued by the "orange haze piss" filter that was in seemingly every game released between 2004 and 2009.

People really hated that back then, lol.

Lol we remember two very different 2004s. :DD

the Coen Brothers were supposedly writing it but it seems like it's probably in development hell.

Yeah and now Ethan Coen is sadly retiring from directing. Not sure if anything will come of that. Strange concept, Scarface and Coen Brothers.

Although what is kind of strange is the fact that although Brian De Palma directs Scarface (1983) the screenplay is by Oliver Stone who by now is on par and certainly as influential as Brian De Palma. So, 1983's Scarface was really controlled by a heavy hitting director/screenwriter duo, aside from Pacino's idea to make the thing in the first place.

Not sure how we ended up talking about films..

I really can't wait for this trilogy.. I'm not terribly excited to play III, although it looks excellent. I think I done it to death. I reckon I'll whizz through it. Maybe, I'll try go for the triple 100%. Never 100%'d III or VC. I hope there is an achievement for 100%ing the trilogy. But I've been craving VC for a long time. There wasn't really any way to play it on Xbox until I got an OG Xbox and the III/VC double-pack. But I still haven't bothered with it.

Also, thanks to Rockstar for announcing and releasing a game so close. I'm glad we didn't have to wait ages for this. Bring on 11th of Nov!

Soo guys, some assets from free asset store. Is this indication of quality? Are the trees in SA taken from free UE assets too?

It's okay and does look good actually.

Hello dear forumers, after watching the trailer several times and after the warzone the forum was yesterday and the painful memes about fat Tommy yellowish crappy fingers i will post My thoughts about the trilogy.

Before i start i just Will make a quick introduction: as a day 1 believer, and as i posted several times before the trailer release, My expectations we're high but i was not expecting a full remake or anything like that, i said in several posts that the trilogy deserved better graphics, lightning and gameplay improvements and be able to run in Windows 10, a remakster,  just that for me would have been the Best scenario possible (like the old version but with some mods like : CLEO, Widescreen fix, Project 2DFX and Silentpatch) at bare minimun and start from there.

I was not expecting GTA V or RDR2 graphics.

I was pretty much convinced that this Project would be done at Home by Rockstar Dundee, seemed to be the most logical way since the new studio has a lots of og's from DMA Design, and You would think that a relevant Project like this and so special for Rockstar would never be outsourced, but i was wrong...

First of all, like Many others and mostly og's i have strong mixed feelings, the trailer to me looked half-assed and the music choice was not good at all, i would have preferred GTA III theme song or a mix of the 3 themes.

After the trailer we become screenshots, and at first glance GTA III looks slither better than VC and SA (maybe they assigned the Best intern to that city), i can see some improvements, don't get me wrong, better lightning, textures and such, but for me it is below the minimun Quality that this Project needed, i cannot see passion in this, i don't see the maximun effort, or maybe this is the maximun that this studio can do?.

And oh boy, the characters, this is the most critical thing to me...what in the hell we're they thinking??? Why You change this iconic models into trash yellow sausage plastic bootleg looking a** models, seems like they choose a random intern and Say: "hey mike, wanna do the character models" ffs this is totally unacceptable, if You are not capable of deliver a good model just unglue the fingers and leave the model like that. They look so out of place, specially Tommy, Claude and cj look still Bad to me but not as Bad as Tommy, but it's gonna be hard to "get used" to this, i don't Buy this cartoonish crap, this is Grand Theft Auto not forttrash.

The project not be done at Home it's very painful to me, i really thought despite T2 greed that they Will give to this Project a special threatment, like this are our 3 babies, the Games that established Rockstar as a serious name in the Game industry, makes You wonder, what in the hell they bought ruffian, what for??, We still don't know but seems like they have 0% involvement on this and instead they decided to outsource this Project to a below average studio with some shady past in GTA Games (You know the one), to me this decisión is a sad statement, in the end seems more like a rushed cash grab than a passionate Project.

Iam still trying To process all of this, but those are My Main thoughts, Iam still dying to play GTA III again, but to pre-order i need in Game footage, My only hope for this Game to gather My interest is if they make changes to the character models (wich seems unlikely but possible) and again i need see some Solid gameplay before decide.

Sorry for long post but i needed unload this from My chest...if You read all of this thanks You.

@VitoCorleone1992 Iam listening to this song in a loop in My dark room trying To forget yellow sausage plastic bootleg looking Tommy

@Zello iam not in heaven 😢

I know different tastes should not be disputed or discussed, I know the huge majority of you 'hate' that 'orange glow' unlike some of us, but you just can't tell me this new sh*t looks better. Maybe only to a small insignificant point simply in a technical sense, because it's more modern and that's all. Call it a washed out cliche, call it nostalgia or whatever, but the original atmoshepere as well as the visual fidelity aren't some souless, generic representations that could be done by anyone with a bit stronger technical knowledge, who btw, didn't even have to play these classics in the first place. The work put in to 'definitive editions' is laughable compared to the work done on 20+ years old console. This sh*t looks sterile as a damn hospital. I just knew vast amount of people simply have no standards and can easily be impressed by something so boring as this. I also knew Rockstar won't bother to bring the true nature of these games in to the modern revisions, but to fence themselves entirely from this, to outsource 'their job' to someone else? That's real, right there and all they can get from me is a middle finger, that's all.

I love how this post starts with "I know different tastes should not be disputed or discussed" but then goes on to insult everyone with different tastes.
I did not know people loved the "orange glow" so much. I don't even remember it being this heavy as in some of the screenshots above. Was this just in the PS2 version or something?

GTA Trilogy is perfectly playable on Xbox 360 as long as You have version with HDD (to download official emulator). I was playing GTA III on Xbox 360 slim about a week ago, and apart from some framerate issues (due to emulation very likely) it's perfectly playable. Vice City works as well. Haven't tested San Andreas, though, as I have scratched disk :(

That's normal in game dev and in any creative profession really, it's what free assets are for.

If people hated it why did they beg modders for years to try and restore the effects and style to the pc version?

There seems to be some revisionist history going on at the moment and it's a little sad how everyone, including "fans", are now calling the original games trash with terrible graphics, etc, and that Rockstar have finally blessed them with a playable version of these games. 😕

A lot of game textures are in public domain. In fact, many of the original textures were from free domain sites (RoSA project tracked them down).

It's far from uncommon practice in gaming.

Well, I would rather have them use something new than just leave it as such.

I never cared about that insignificant table below Tommy's amogus hands but the newer table looks clean and HD.

Well, the "fans" aren't a homogeneous blob of people who all share the same opinion. As an example, there were a lot of people that HATED the graphics of GTA 4, especially in 2008, and when GTA 5 came around, a lot of people praised the new direction.

Guess what? Some people also hated GTA 5 and liked GTA 4's gritty style.

With SA's orange haze, some people liked it, others hated it and either just accepted it, or modded it.

There were also many PC mods on GTA SA that provided a more "realistic" look reflecting the game's California setting. Made for people who didn't like the PS2 haze.

It's not so much revisionism but people who hated the haze effects back then are happy that it's reduced now.

Why not offer a toggle then like the classic used to? That way both sides are happy.

I did kinda hope they'd use the original song or something new - just like they did with HudMo in 2011, I wouldn't be surprised if they had a Circoloco artist remix it - but this fits okay too I guess.
