Jason
On one hand, I do love a good treasure hunt movie like Indiana Jones, National Treasure etc. On the other hand, while I enjoy Tom Holland as Spider-Man, he looks like some god awful casting for Nathan Drake. Mindshower
This is a movie I've wanted to see for years on a series I care for quite a bit, but the casting is bizarre as hell. I don't care for the Tom Holland Spiderman films, frankly they've made me appreciate Spiderman 3 more because of their mediocrity. Markie Mark is a meme, I don't see a trace of Sully in him, he's better at playing a meat head, doubt he can pull off the old-school suave personality. No doubt about me watching this, though. Have to see it. Edited October 27, 2021 by Mindshower MrBreak16
Mister Pink
None of the three writers have written anything I really cared about and nothing really critically acclaimed except one movie where two of the three were on a larger writing team; Iron Man, 2008. The sceptical asshole in me says we can expect no real drama, funny quips and one-liners that subjugate any chance of a real emotional or suspenseful moment and you'll probably feel safe in knowing the whole time the good guys win and there was never really much danger in the first place. Also, probably full of sarcastic humour that reminds you that you are watching a movie. Oh and you must have an obligatory Led Zeppelin remix track (Ramble On) in the trailer. A song inspired by Tolkien and Lord of The Rings/The Hobbit etc None of the writers by themselves have any credits on an acclaimed film as writers. This is problem with games to movies content. They'll pick 2 or 3 writers that have their name attached to big flops and big movies but none of them have any really acclaimed writing chops. It will be a popcorn action flick. I might not even be terrible but it's not going to be good. I might be enjoyable but not a great film. Apparently David O. Russel (The Fighter, Three Kings, Silver Linings Playbook) was originally attached to write or direct this film - he and Wahlberg have done many films together. Probably how Walhberg ended up in this film to begin with. Now, that could have made a good film. Pretentious film douche commentary out of the way, I liked what I saw in the trailer. And yeah, I have a soft spot for National Treasure and Indiana Jones. A good adventure movie can go a long way. I think as movies based on games go, this actually has chance of doing well among fans. I'm going to guess fans will being 70%+ percent positive on RT. Critics... maybe 40%. Unchartered series is great and glad to see movie made from it. Algonquin Assassin
Nothing against Mark Wahlberg as he can be a great actor in the right role (ala Sergeant Dignam in The Departed), but when I saw the trailer I couldn’t connect him to Sully at all. Not only does he bear no resemblance at all, he doesn’t doesn’t come across as “Sully” in charisma and charm. He’s literally stock Mark Wahlberg. Remember how that Max Payne movie turned out? The least they could’ve done is given him a moustache and/or greyed his hair so he looks more like Sully. Tom Holland is a little better as Nathan, but I can already tell that this movie besides maybe a couple of cool action scenes will probably end up on the pile of mostly disappointing video game movies. I’d rather they just do an animated movie like the anime style Resident Evil movies that are IMO superior to their live action counterparts. ThatBenGuy1998
Looks neat. I haven’t really ever played Uncharted but I heard it’s quite a bit like National Treasure or Indiana Jones so I guess I’ll have to check it out.
