Suggestion: Horse Painting/Decals (WAR PAINT)

Recommended Posts

The idea is pretty much in the tin: Horse Paints or Decals.  Obviously, RDO has a lot of different horse models, so I'd imagine the easiest way to implement something like this would be different decals for different horses.

What do you think?  Is this something you'd like to see?

For sake of clarity on the idea, a few images:

We have mustache options, and my suggestion is appropriate to the era in question.  If you don't like it, that's fine, but this response is deliberately asinine and undeserved.

A lot of horses often look completely ridiculous already. My eyes roll whenever I see a player on a horse that looks more like a zombie rhino. It feels so out of place. I really don't want to see painted horses going around and my post summarises exactly how the game would look to me if we had the option. A lot of the clothing options are stupid too. Whenever we get a new hat it usually looks absurd yet we don't get the option to buy some of the nice normal hats and clothing that NPCs wear. The game should move away from this childish nonsense and give us normal and authentic looking clothing and horses.

I personally would love to see more Native content, and the sacred paint markings for the horses from the various tribes would definitely be something I would welcome.

This could easily be expanded upon as well, allowing not only the tribal marks to be added but also branding scars as well, such as those found on the army cavalry horses and on many ranch horses.

We could even use them to add markings to our own horses coat, like giving us the ability to add paint markings where there are none, a facial marking on a solid face, some dappling to a chestnut coat, appaloosa spots,

maybe to cover or add white to the legs. Or to give them special markings like a blood shoulder to an Arabian.

Decals would honestly be a great way to give us the opportunity to really get in there and create a horse that's unique without having to rely on giving them odd mane and tail combinations for flair.

I think a lot of them use odd combinations so that their horse is different as most players tend to keep their horse colors pretty much the same. That and many of the options that they give us do allow us to get part of a unique coat together, but we are missing key features that would actually make the combo look legitimate.

Lol, sorry about all the enthusiasm. I'm a crazy horse girl and this is what I love talking about. 😊

Oh my God how can anyone start a topic anymore without being mocked by this user???? War paint on horses is a GREAT idea. Ever seen pictures of native Americans in history books?? All of their horses were painted before going on hunts or going into battle. This is a very well known fact and absolutely should be an option in this game. If you don't like it, don't put it on your horse!

More native content and options would definitely improve the game.

Brands could even be made customizable, like crew markings in GTA so you could have your own unique brand that applied to all of your owned horses.

Great. It's good that not everyone has the same opinion.

All? I've just googled for photos of native American horses and haven't been able to find one that was pained. Share some. I'd be interested to see.

Now I know you're not that stupid you think that's a good argument for things being in the game. If they allow us to make horses look even more ridiculous then I'll still have to look at them. Not having my own horses painted won't change that.

Maybe the results are different in your region. Or face it, Google knows you well enough AmyStone by now, to know you ain't shoppin for horse paint. Try an anonymizing proxy site such as kproxy, perhaps. Lots of examples have paint and feathers.

I'm afraid this is pretty much true however it might be prone to an overuse, and I would also find distasteful. However, if it were available to the native ethnicity characters only, that might work. And perhaps it is temporary, not saved. So I was going to say, I don't think it is anything like the low hanging gold grabs that might get this company to well do anything. However, if you could run up to wapiti and pay the old lady gold gold bars to dress up your horse for the session, well, hey..

What you've done there is find images of either recent photos of horses that are painted or just drawing of horses that are painted. What I googled for was for old photo of native American horses that were painted. You know, actual photos taken around 120 years ago.

Historically many tribes would paint their horses before a battle to have a visible representation of their exploits. I know the Cherokee, Apache, and the Lakota were some of the most known to paint their victories and their own horse's might on the animal's coat. There are very few photos because this was done primarily for a battle or for a special occasion. Not many photographers would be there at the opportune time to take the photos I would wager, and if it were for a battle, I doubt many would want to be there in the first place. 😉

Paint markings on horses were not always used for battle though, some symbols were representation of more peaceful things like good health, a child's protection, etc.

Most of the evidence of this comes from actual tribal members from their own histories, and from turn of the century paintings that were done by artists who may have witnessed such things.

Horses held a special place for many Native tribes and to see their influence over these animals in full display would be wonderful.

Lol, I would think that R* would have the state of mind to at least make it somewhat realistic to the cause. I mean, a doobie horse is going too far and I wouldn't doubt that some players would be up for the challenge.😄

I see exactly your point, and we both know that if given the right tools, many players would literally remake MLP characters in the game just to be funny... or not? 😑 That I can agree on.

R* doesn't have a good enough track record when it comes to balancing the realistic with the outrageous.

Here we are foolishly asking for traditional paint marks and different coat patterns that we can add to a base coat, and they will fall back to giving us blinged out pretty ponies.

Such as these (hidden due to too much 80's fashion) 😄

I am ashamed to admit that I owned a few of those btw... 😮

THIS. SO. MUCH! ❤️

Also, to be able to put tiny flowers/feathers in my Gypsy Cob's (well, any horse tbh) mane would be nice.

My daughter would love this. 😁

I really want saddle skins, realistic colors instead of the barbie colored stuff, i really like the alligator ranch saddle but its a crappy saddle stats wise in online. I dont want GTA on horses !

Definitely this.

The saddles should be for cosmetic purposes and not have stats in my opinion, all abilities should be based on the horse not it's tack.

I also wished we could coordinate all of the tack to match as we wished, including offering us different bridle styles with different bits, better blanket options, and why can't we get different adornments for the saddle itself? Like a lasso that can hang from the horn or the side, another sheath for one of our long bladed weapons, etc? Nothing intended to be used mind you, just different things that allow us to personalize it with things that fit our character's personality.

What this all comes down to is the question as to why are we so limited with what we can do with our horses?

Sounds like a good idea but I also share Amy's concerns that it would just end up looking like another childish 1/2 ass done feature.

Yep, that is the thing. R* is prone to offering us good ideas done very badly.

I would love to have tribal paints, nothing to outlandish like GTA, but maybe some horizon zero style horse armor and paints would be awesome. I would also love flower crowns and maybe a unicorn horn. Especially for a gypsy cob.😍
