<snip>

The atmosphere in the original trilogy is very specific and has grown on us who played these games when they first were released.

i don't know if i want to ruin the good childhood memories with some halfass good looking product that possibly sucks ass.

<snip>

For what it's worth, I have mixed feelings about the remaster; I agree that some of the original versions' drawbacks kinda contributed to their charm, and that any remaster - no matter how technologically or aesthetically good - just might not feel the same because we already experienced it once, possibly when we were quite a bit younger and we just interpreted things differently.

I appreciate that what we've seen so far in the trailer is likely work-in-progress (e.g., not the final versionss), and you're right that it could be bad, so I'm definitely keeping an open mind. I do hope that the remasters are good, because I find that GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas do not run well on my newer hardware, and my older hardware is slowly becoming an oxidised relic (e.g., I have an old laptop from 2005 which can just about run Vice City without any mods, but the laptop periodically overheats and the battery cannot charge; it only works when plugged into the mains).

Out of interest, random question but how do you guys think the Dodo will handle? (Read spoiler below if you want more background.)

Spoiler

For those who played the original GTA 3, the Dodo handled terribly as a clipped-wing aircraft. For the Portland import/export missions, you had to deliver a Dodo, and from what I recall many players were unable to fly it from Francis Int'l airport to Portland. For me, the charm was driving the Dodo outrageously across all three maps to deliver it. So should it retain its former 'charm'/poor handling, or should the Dodo's flight dynamics be improved?

Wasn't it a bug because of over 30 fps ? As I remember with frame limiter, cars don't stop in front of you instantly, they run you over

IMO the dodo should be improved, while still being hard to fly, maybe make it stall easily or something like that.

It should be hard, not borderline impossible to fly.

flying the dodo is pretty easy once you get it off the ground, for the first minute or two its a breeze. But the longer you fly the more uncontrollable and chaotic it becomes to fly. Just pull down while on the runway and once you see sparks let go, the plane will put its nose in the air and gain altitude, from there just pull the plane down every 3 seconds or so

Now that you said it, this is mostly what I think should be changed. It makes no sense to have a plane take off like this

GTA 3 desperately needs QoL changes like swimming, planes, bikes, a map, buildings with actual roofs (most likely to happen obviously), a finished stadium where you can actually walk, etc. The new controls are a welcome change too.

A kind of compromise, yeah I like that idea too.

Strange, as my experience was the opposite: I found the aircraft easier to fly roughly after the first 1 or 2 minutes of flight. I recall reading a Rockstar interview somewhere a long time ago, where they said that they simply didn't have the code or flight dynamics to make the Dodo more flyable. Correct me if I'm wrong. Either way, I agree with @Matt_STS, I hope that the Dodo is a challenge to fly, but not as difficult as in the original.

Which previously-made interiors would you most like to see? Personally, I'd like to be able to access Donald Love's rooftop Zen garden without mods; I liked the way it looked, but the draw distance was so low that you could never snipe anybody or anything from that height.

I don't really remember much sadly, I might see Vadim M's videos to refresh my memory. Also, playing LCS confused me more because of the same map and all the construction.

Oh right. I never played LCS, but the last time I played GTA 3 according to my old save games was around 2007. So maybe like you I won't remember much, which would be a nice surprise actually.

Yeah. Things from San Andreas like clothing stores, restaurants, extra activities, etc. could be added to GTA 3. It's things as such that make a better experience.

Don't expect any of these ideas.

I don't think bikes and aircraft are a huge necessity given the map size and scale.

I'm also kinda ehh on swimming since the map isn't really suited for that, it makes more sense in Vice City.

The map and new stadium models are a must though.

New clothing options would be great as well.

Impossible to say really without knowing how the vehicle handling has been affected/changed as part of the remaster. I remember driving it through the tunnel from the airport to the docks. It wasn't that difficult.

On another note, I'm slightly disappointed that they can bother with proprietary DLSS, but can't be bothered with open source FSR. Especially given that this will be available for the consoles as well.

Swimming, planes, and bikes are not QoL improvements, they are features.

That must have been about ten times harder than just going over two bridges.

I guess but the point is that for any average gamer in 2021, these are not really features but basic requirements...

This is not a new game, it's a remaster of an old game. You should temper your expectations. I would bet money there are absolutely no new gameplay features apart from those mentioned in the press releases.

You are not wrong but a man can dream, if you get me.

At most, I am expecting the Dodo to be more flyable.

By your own admission you can't remember much about GTA III so all you're really doing is dreaming of a brand new GTA which is not what this is. GTA III worked amazingly well without swimming, bikes, planes, roofs, and a huge, empty-ass stadium for you to do precisely nothing with.

This is a forum, if we all behaved rationally and tempered our expectations then you wouldn't see a whole lot of discussion. It would get quite boring pretty quickly.

The reason I am talking about such things is precisely the fact that these are old games, there is not a whole lot to talk about in terms of new stuff other than graphics. I remember GTA 3 and LC enough to know how handicapped you feel in comparison to something like SA.

You say GTA 3 worked just fine then why update the graphics at all? Let's cancel the new Definitive Edition. You can't touch the graphics either.

Have you seen the old stadium and the missing roofs? Why would GSG be so lazy so as to now put roofs on buildings? They have already remodelled several buildings and changed the roof textures in SA.

The only reason you'd ever feel handicapped in GTA III is if you're standing on a dock or a jetty, or bumming around in the airport like a sad sack wondering about whatcouldabeen. Really, if you're falling into water so often that it feels like a handicap then it might be a good idea to just... I dunno, pay attention?

By this logic, let's remove other things too if they are not needed.

Why do you want the Definitve Edition? You could also not wonder about "whatcouldabeen" and just enjoy your old PS 2-era game with barebone features.

I think you're letting your realism/pessimism get the better of you, if you really believe that GSG will not put roofs on buildings and remodel the stadium in GTA 3 then you're in for a surprise and a good one at that.

Just look at the new buildings, totally remodelled. It would make no sense to not put roofs on buildings. Imagine the memes if they didn't bother to do something as basic as that.

What are you talking about, removing things? Nothing except un-PC bullsh*t will be removed, and by the same token, nothing except a few QoL improvements will be added. I do enjoy my PS2 GTA III, just like I have been doing for 20 years. You're the one setting yourself up for disappointment by levying unrealistic feature additions that would cause issues with canon and progression as "basic requirements".

I'm sure the stadium will be remodeled along with everything else, however I'd be *surprised* if you were allowed in. And I'd be equally *surprised* if you could access any more rooftops than you can in OG III.
