billiejoearmstrong8
All I see is an evolution from John Marston to Arthur Marston It's a shame both John and Arthur have low self esteem and a bad self image though. Both hotties Unspoken OH 1 Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/976340-i-was-always-ugly-dutch/#findComment-1071668642 Share on other sites

Lemoyne outlaw
i blame abigail. she told him that he wasnt much to look at when they get their picture taken. i always thought john looked cool. especially in rdr1. unfortunately they ruined him in the epilogue. i usually like my characters clean shaven. thats how i keep my arthur. but just clean shaved looks bad. and i also dont really care for him in a beard either. i just wish they made him look like his 1899 version. TimMiller
Looks are the last thing an Outlaw from the late 19th century would care about. Especially when he is on the run. So both Arthur and John don't really have that much self-awareness, even though Arthur gets called pretty boy quite a few times Copcaller 1 Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/976340-i-was-always-ugly-dutch/#findComment-1071669075 Share on other sites

Seems like he really has low self esteem including about his looks - probably tied into how he sees himself as a bad person morally. John just gets on with stuff and doesn't overthink things but Arthur is more sensitive deep down and suffers from depression I think Poor Arthur! billiejoearmstrong8
Had another thought on this lol. I think John is somewhat traumatised and self conscious over his scars - nothing too serious since he's very resilient, but anyone would be to some extent. Probably took some time to get used to it after it happened. So, when he says something like "I was always ugly Dutch" I think it's more him downplaying his disfigurement to himself (since if he tells himself he was already ugly anyway it's less of a big deal) and being defensive over how others might now view him than necessarily that he actually thought he was always ugly. He does think he's ugly with them though, which is sad. Arthur wasn't really keen on being called "pretty boy" Since calling somebody "pretty boy" is a somewhat antiquated way of questioning that person's masculinity, I don't think Tommy was alluding to Arthur's rugged good looks.
