GTA3 Remaster Announcement

Recommended Posts

How do you guys feel about the announcement of the remaster of GTA3? As I understand it it's essentially the same game with tweaked graphics and improved/modernised controls and gameplay mechanics.

I want to be excited about it but I think for me at least, I play GTA3 maybe once or twice a year, and it's mostly for the nostalgia. The outdated mechanics are a part of what I like about it. So I'm not sure how I'll receive it. I am excited that it's getting a new lease on life and that players that have never tried it may finally get into it though.

I'm also bummed that certain GTA3 modding projects have been buried to allow this to occur. That's bitter sweet.

What do you think?

I'm damn excited about it. GTA III was my first contact with videogames back in 2002. Was the first game I completed and a game that brings me joyfull memories with family members.

As yourself I also try to play GTA III every now and then. Looking forward to see what they gonna do in areas such as Red Light District and the financial district.

I don't care about it. It's just going to be the same game rehashed with Unreal tier graphics. Oh and also no modding capabilities.

Is just showing Misty's artwork vector with GTA3's art as background. No screenshots, no gameplay, not even a single clue of how the game looks. I'm expecting my childhood and PS2 memories with it to be totally ruined after release lol. But let's hope isn't. Also, they don't mention anything related to soundtrack, that's another big issue there, expecting a 90% cut of the original soundtrack. Even harder on Vice City version and not that much on San Andreas.

I hadn't thought about the soundtrack but that's a fair point. GTA3 is likely the easiest to sort out as it had the least licensed music of the three, but if I can't be cranking some Royce Da 5'9" as I'm cruising around Portland, I'll be disappointed.

It looks like the original games will be pulled from Steam and be replaced with the remaster, so anyone that doesn't already have it could be suffering if the remaster is a bust.

I wonder if they will give them for free to the owners of the original games. Which I doubt, because R*.

Good point there. That's another major issue with the GTA players. Removing the classic versions. But it looks totally factible since the new versions will include improvements, better compatiblity with newer systems and new graphics just to bust the new audiences from nowadays as Fortnite kids. Also, I suppose those will be patched from time on time, so its lifespan will be longer.

Totally doubt.

I was hoping it would be something like Mafia: Definitive Edition where it's a re-imagining of the game with a similar-but-different city and story, I thought that would be pretty interesting.

But if it's just the same thing with updated graphics and controls I'm likely to pass. As you said, the quirks and limitations of the game are part of its charm and nostalgia value for me. I'm good with what I've got.

It's bullsh*t mods are getting taken down though. People have worked really hard on those over the years.

I don't really care about it. I'm curious to see what has been changed obviously but I don't think it'll surpass the original. I don't mind the outdated graphics and gameplay, it's what makes the game charming. And after all these years I'm used to the game's limitations but I never found the game to be particularly hard anyway.

These remasters are just a pathetic attempt at cash-grabbing from Take Two. They are nothing like the masterpiece Mafia: Definitive Edition was last year. Sell old, true-and-tried games with some visual polish to a new generation of gamers on the modern consoles, mainly. Let's not forget those are (and have always been) their main market; they don't give a damn about us long term fans, especially veterans on PC like me. Them getting to "cancel" years of modding effort probably feels like glory to them. My take is, if you can play the originals (and safeguard them for the future) then do so. Show them your middle finger. I admit I'm a bit curious to see how they will look, but even without seeing them I'm pretty sure I have next to no interest in buying them, and I doubt my mind will change when they get revealed.

I also highly suspect they are doing all of this to get the people ready for a big announcement. GTA VI, maybe?

I'm looking forward to it and I don't really want a heavily remastered game. What I'm hoping for is the PS2 version running at 4k 60fps or at least 4k 30fps. My fear with a proper remaster is that it would then lose the atmosphere and vibe of the game that makes it what it is. I play the trilogy often and play through GTA 3 at least twice a year, so even if it is full price, it will be worth it for me.

There are two realistic things I would like added to the og PS2 version:

- 4k 60fps

- New tab in the menu with a map

If all of these games are seriously gonna be on the unreal engine,  I hope some of the gameplay enhancements are equally carried across between the 3 games. I just hope for one, they improve the camera regarding auto aiming in gta 3 as well as being able to sprint with all weapons.

I'm back, we were all hyped for V and now it's time to recharge our hype trains because the trilogy could be THE GREATEST game in the HISTORY of greatest games ever made ever.....ever.

Brothers, brothers... it is not often we get to rejoice in hype, let's us forget the shortcomings and get excited about this new release

IMHO, all of you should give your selves props for what you have accomplished with these 3 games over the past 2 decades.
I don't see R* ever getting to the level you guys have and still are to this day.
Thank you for keeping these games alive, fun and fresh.

From HD to Alpha/ BETA styles, and just the crazy stuff you all have done to provide, your dedication to this is just awesome!

I don't think that any project will even match the perfection that GTA 3 is. It is a mixture of ingenious design ideas, clever map design and some nostalgia thrown in.

If Claude can swim it goes against the whole premise that LC's water is too polluted. If the bikes are introduced it means that the petition to ban them hasn't worked. If the missions are tweaked to make them easier then, well, it just make the game a joke.

The only thing that needs fixing is that you can't get 100% if you do the missions in the wrong order and maybe the power of Mafia's shotguns.

I don't particularly have an opinion on being able to climb fences, jumping out of a moving vehicle, low riders, nitro and other similar stuff. The game controls are pretty much the same as SA's, so I don't see what the problem is with them.

From what people seem to be saying, and what R* themselves have said I think it's going to be an attempt to capitalise on a big name by releasing a product that while being no substantially different from the original, dumbs it down to the point that it loses it's character and attractiveness.

Needless to say, I'm not paying money for it, unless R* completely re-work the map objects and not put it on Rage.
