I was thinking: Does it make sense that the leaked minimum requirements refer to all three games in the franchise? It probably refers to just one of the games...

i'd love how to compress files i been trying to back up older games including the 3D era GTA games.

Compression is a form of obfuscation aswell, when the file is decrypted, its bigger.

For example when some game runs, it'll enter the compressor's (also called a packer) entry point, then it decompresses the original code and writes it to some section of memory it has allocated.

Once the original executable is fully decompressed, it will make a call/jump to the original executable's entry point and start running the game. Not really on-topic, but there's the basics of compression for you.

Has Rockstar really become EA? I mean they released RDR2 just 3 years ago, one of the best open world games of all time. They sure have become more greedy with GTA Online, but as long as they give us groundbreaking games every 5 or so years, i can tolerate that.

5 years is a little too long imo. I think its better if they release a game every 3 years. So maybe big project, 3 years later a smaller project, 3 years later a big project etc. Just so we dont have to wait for something new for sooo long

On Xbox, The original Call of Duty 4 was 6.5 GB big. The Remastered version is 73.9 GB big. Never underestimate the power of audio files and textures

It was 39 gb at launch. The rest is just online stuff

True but COD4 was incredibly well remastered and looked straight up next gen. I would lose my mind if the Trilogy gets a similar treatment.

People had to work overtime and sacrificed their mental health for RDR2. Making good games and setting the bar high takes time.

I don't know, 3 years for a company like Rockstar doesn't really make sense. I think 4-5 years at best is a better window, we don't need some map that's bigger than the USA for every upcoming game either. Part of the reason why I enjoy the 3D era more than V is because I'm not forced to do pointless missions traveling across from one side of the map to the other covered by mountains out of laziness and uncreativity. Except for maybe San Andreas but at least its map had interiors.

I don’t work in the gaming industry but I can only imagine the amount of stress these guys are under for each project - expecting a release of what is, essentially, a leading entertainment product, every 3 years would burn these guys out. To work on a new project right after another would literally ruin your mental state/wellbeing.

see, if they give us like a max of 15 to 20 seconds to get back to land that would be more forgiving then just touching the water and almost instant death.
i like that idea.

Tbh it wouldn't help you a lot, at least not in GTA 3 where the whole map was elevated above the sea level with huge contrite walls

personally i have the feeling vegetation will be re-done.
i mean...dynamic shadows and such don´t work that well with these LQ trees and palms.
and maybe some slight animation adjustments.
and then likely stuff like normal maps and such will get added as well+improved models.
those are the things i am pretty much certain will be the case

Oh for sure, trees and bushes are the easiest to replace and they make the biggest impact. I think thats like the first thing everyone notices in remastered games

Highly doubt it though, they'd have to rework way too many things and it'd be a radical change, whilst they have stated the games will keep their classic look. If they aimed for more realistic, PBR materials, they'd have to remake almost all of the textures (it goes without saying creating materials today is nothing like it was in the early 2000s and takes up a lot more work), which would also be pointless unless they also remade most of the models. Basically, it'd have to be almost a complete remake. Just not gonna happen.

The game is being built from scratch so there's no "re-work" of materials. All things point to it being in development since at least 2018/2019 so it's not like they wouldn't have had time.
Plus there's a lot of aspects that would make the game feel like the originals and having UE4 graphics on a game that has super low quality textures (because yes, they're not great) makes zero sense.

Overall I don't think that a sidewalk with a normal map would destroy the feeling of the game.

Gonna be honest man, apart from night time this looks pretty rubbish to me. The daytime is completely ruined by over exposure and bloom, the colors are overly saturated and it's another one of those mods where there's water everywhere for absolutely no reason everywhere. And night time doesn't look too good either, the whole vibe and feel of the 1980s is just lost entirely in this mod.

Yeah the game isn't being "built" from scratch in just a year or two. You got a source on that by the way? Or are you just going off of the "unreal" in the file names and jumping to conclusions? Cause if you got some insider info we'd love to hear it...

That would be a quality of life improvement that we got so used to it that not having it now would cause some pain to most

I really don't think they're going to be remaking the whole map or anything and that's one thing I think, IMO, that people need to temper their expectations about. I fully believe they're going to redo vegetation because a whole new renderer/lighting system/etc won't work with the ugly low res/2D vegetation, and some props might be changed too, but expecting the whole map to be remade is kinda eh.

I think they'll be tweaking the terrain so it's not super blocky, especially in GTA3, but I can't see them going building by building remaking everything, maybe some select things. Some renders posted a few pages back I think by @BS_BlackScout kinda show how a lot of the original building models still survive modern rendering techniques. Normal/bump maps and stuff, I can see that happening, but don't go expecting full remakes of everything just because it's on a different engine. Things can be ported.

One of the things I think might be more changed is vehicles for example. Not expecting GTAV-quality vehicles or GTAO vehicles in the trilogy, but probably higher quality than the originals, and I can see handling enhancements too.

Liberty City and Vice City are small compared to San Andreas, I think Rockstar is really unlikely to do that, but it would be nice to expand the map, with countryside, I think they're unlikely to do that, but it's my dream to have a rural area in Liberty City and Vice City since I first played San Andreas in 2008

Can we expect a complete and accessible Liberty City in GTA San Andreas?  rather than an incomplete map?

Technically this shouldn't be too hard, Rockstar could easily connect all three games together, making it possible to travel from Map to Map.

But it wouldn't make much sense since all Games take place in different times and there is no reason for you to travel to different maps story wise, except for the one Mission in GTA SanAndreas.

thats what i was telling a friend. not to expect a complete build from the ground up.

There's no need to tiptoe around it, they are NOT remaking the maps for these games.

I'd put my house on it if I could or if I had a house for that matter.

Porting a 15 year old game to UE4 isn't that easy.
Let's say they did, they would still need to retexture the materials, re-apply them, re-work on the animations, upgrade the 3D models, I doubt they won't retouch the maps themselves so add a retouching of the maps, sounds sources need to be replaced, most likely they need to rework on the sound timing for dialogues between characters and pedestrians;
Set up weapons again (you don't just port a meta file from 2002 that works with RenderWare to a completely new and modern engine), set up weapon animations.

Particles need to either be improved or completely reworked, they need to put in the game accordingly.

So might as well leave all that in the past and build it from the ground up with the plans Rockstar has archived and all the actors' recorded voice. If they want to use original materials it's no big deal but the rest needs to be worked on because they're bringing it to a completely new engine... you can't avoid that.

My source is the experience I have (not much but it's honest work) with Source 2 Engine, talking with other developers, I even know a mapper that ported Vice City to Source 2 and had to manually re-apply all the textures (even if he used the original materials).

Seriously, what going on in minds of these modders to make every GTA map drowned in water.

Is this new mental health issue or what?
