Highly doubt it though, they'd have to rework way too many things and it'd be a radical change, whilst they have stated the games will keep their classic look. If they aimed for more realistic, PBR materials, they'd have to remake almost all of the textures (it goes without saying creating materials today is nothing like it was in the early 2000s and takes up a lot more work), which would also be pointless unless they also remade most of the models. Basically, it'd have to be almost a complete remake. Just not gonna happen.

Aircraft in San andreas when they tap a lamppost.explosion-house-explosion.gif

 

I do hope aircraft aren't as fragile in San andreas. They should keep the explosions though to surprise new players.

I agree with you, all I was saying is a line has to be drawn somewhere. But all the achievements point to the game's features being the same (no indication of bikes/helis/clothes in 3, outfits working the same way in VC, and generally only referencing things we already have working the way they did before).

What I'm saying is, this new version won't be bad if we don't get these things if what we already have gets good improvements.

I'm personally expecting them to remake most textures and models. There's no way they'd use even the source images from back then, as they simply would not fit in a game with modern proper lighting techniques. There's also a ton that basically look like real photos slapped onto a building, or are square textures stretched like hell to fit a wide shopfront, like the Pikachu texture from GTA SA that was posted within the last few pages.

Part of me thinks we're not getting Bikes/Helicopters/Swimming in 3 or even other skins (like GTA3 on PC being able to use custom skins) - seems too good to be true. I think Bikes in GTA3 would honestly change a lot... but so would GTAV style controls which are apparently all but confirmed... So if Claude can climb terrain like CJ or later protagonists.... then the game is already severely different. Won't even be a challenge to play what is essentially car to ledge hopscotch for new players to get the 9MM at the start of the game on the side wall if you can just climb up.

 

If it is 'GTAV style controls' I wonder if you can now use a 9MM in a drive-by... Probably not. Part of me doubts you'll even have GTAIV/GTAV style drive by controls...

 

The AK-47 is already incredibly broken in GTA3 on Portland, can't imagine how powerful it is with modern style controls (you can essentially snipe targets from very far radius' in the original game in Triads and Tribulations without even having to enter the fish factory) ... I don't think I'll ever enjoy doing Bomb-Da-Base Act II without a mouse and keyboard though... sniper controls are unmatched on PC.

i expect those kinda things to be the same.
cause it's became part of the lore kinda? like how John Marston can't swim.
now i think of it a lot of Rockstar Characters can't swim.
can Rockstar swim?

3 has some lore as to why you can't swim, I don't remember what Vice City's excuse is. If I recall correctly, the water is so polluted that no human could swim in it without fatal reprecutions (the water looks like sh*t also lmao, especially compared to Vice City).

 

I can't really see Rockstar undoing this, as much as I'd like them to... not without putting an instant, San Andreas/GTAIV like wanted level, on the other islands. (This wasn't a thing in III and VC, you can get to the other islands without getting the cops on you via bugs if you knew how)...

 

Although getting to Staunton early isn't a big deal, as a casual you can't really get back very easily to where you're supposed to go. The tunnel and the bridge is out. I couldn't see them being OK with the player just swimming between the islands. Maybe if they implemented Vice City Stories style swimming where you can't stay in the water long, it'd be OK.

i really hope they can renew the licenses to the music in the games
i mean they are remastering these games and lets face it nostalgia sells really well.
and the music is a big part of the games. probably just wishful thinking.

My previous opinion was that no way would they add swimming to the games but this I can get behind. It fixes the gameplay problem of accidentally falling into the water and instantly dying without ruining the lore reasons or enabling access to the other islands early in the game. Would be a good quality of life improvement to the games.

Yeah I don't want full blown swimming/diving in LC/VC because they would break the game, but a VCS style system where you can't swim indefinitely would be a nice middle ground.

Vice City's waters are supposedly full of sharks, but in-game there doesn't seem to be anything indicative of that.

those painful days of Vice City when trying to jump from a boat to a Dock and fall and miss completely to only lose all guns you've bought

I think the biggest thing GTA3 needs is dive out of the car, honestly. I think newer fans will really struggle with some stuff if they can't bail.

 

I'm assuming we're at least getting that with the mentioned "GTAV style controls".

 

I fully expect the core game things to be changed in 3 though:

 

- Dive out of the car

- Auto Save after mission

- Mission Replay feature

- GTA V Style aiming, targetting and weapon switching.

- Ammunation changed to be a universal style thing not the old laying on the ground style.

- Pay N' Spray to allow color choice. (wishful thinking honestly, even SA didn't do this without mod garages)

- Phone Call missions fixed (these would repeat later in the game)

- Leone Mafia Family to no longer carry shotguns in Saint Marks (post Farewell Salvatore is a death sentence in Saint Marks)

- Waka Gashira Wipeout goons to still have Uzi's instead of the M16/AK47's they did on PS2. (PC nerf to these gang members, this mission destroyed your car on PS2)

- Replay bug on PC to be fixed for Firefighter.

- Hobo Duplication glitch in the Portland Tunnel to be fixed for security reasons.

- Ghost Town nowhere to be found, hidden away from in-game state.

- GPS way points

- A map when you hit pause with a full legend.

One year prior Mafias DE

Two years prior GTAs DE

Without knowing anything! Guys in R*/T2 probably watch some of these videos...

Edit he actually come with Definitive edition idea four years back, just mindblowing.

you know what would really suck?
that the things you listed off are easy quality of life fixes they could add
but they don't. that would suck so bad.
but realistically i see them adding these kinda touch ups,  the leaks and even Rockstar their self said " Modern up to date enhancements. "

Anyone else really keeping their expectations low? Like, so low they're not expecting even any autosave features?

 

Some of your suggestions are top notch and really, R* could make these games absolutely incredible. But will they? Guess we'll see...
