It is unlikely that they will return the cut content, but there is a chance that they will leave it in the code and files and the modmakers will be able to return it

This would just not fit any game from the Trilogy... Do y'all just throw random songs and see what sticks? III's atmosphere would be the closest to it, but the whole gimmick of the Game Radio, is that all the songs and performers are from Royce Da 5'9"'s label - Game Recordings...

Also I really don't think they will add anything at all in terms of music. At best I suspect they'll rebuy all the licenses for the songs that got axed in the anniversary, and even then I don't expect this much.

GTA III's radio created a really interesting ambience. I would think that they did not have the money nor did they want to spend money on licensing songs from popular artists. So their in-house music really gave it a feeling that cannot really be recreated. With regards to Rise, MSX, Game FM the songs were - at least for me - relatively unknown. So that again enhanced this "new" feeling. Of course if you were acquainted with "underground" NY music scene you knew all about them. But I guess a lot of people weren't. After all R* (Houser brothers) somewhat have their roots in music business.

Why don't they just reveal anything

Because they don't have to. This very topic is proof of that. Since the announcement we've had 360 pages and people are gathering in anticipation. It's minimum marketing with maximum impact.

because the 20th anniversary of perhaps one of the most important games in the history of video games is on Friday and they can make a celebration out of it.

If the run-up to 4PM will be constant until friday with no news, most likely.

I agree on the ambience of III - I started my GTA experience with the Trilogy in reverse order, before going on to play every series release - except Chinatown Wars, chronologically. The radio gave it a feeling of being both of its era and otherworldly in a way that was detached somewhat to me from the worlds of SA and VC.

We will hit 500 and more by the time R* will drop new info on Friday. I bet that around the time R* usually posts, pages are going to fly here.

Yes, otherworldly is nice way of putting it. Hadn't really thought about it like that exactly.

Why did I move here?

Imagine if a Ned Luke looking homeless ped appears as a random character and claims he's a universe traveler and in another paradigm, claims to have lived the life of danger and fortune.

That... would be cool.

GTA 3's original pop music hit the spot.

Change, Stripe Summer and Life is But a Mere Supply really take me back to 2001.

But I do kinda hope there's a radio station with real early 00s hits; maybe GTA 3's version of Non Stop Pop.

In the trilogy remaster you actually play as michael de santa trying to get back to GTA V and this is all just a big marketing stunt to promote GTA V E&E.

Actually, each game is just a short 20 minute demo of Trevor trying to escape LC in GTA 3, Michael - VC and Franklin - SA.

Red Dead Rebel

Isn't the trilogy now technically in the HD universe? Since... well, they're HD now.

Absolutely true. That being said, there IS some leeway for expansion of the GTA III's soundtrack, without ruining that amazing atmosphere, I've actually written a post about it and how that theoretical expansion would look like.

III imo is the only one that truly needs an update to the radio, longest station is about 25 minutes... NGL it can get quit repeatable and mind numbing. I personally really don't need Stripe Summer every 10 or so minutes...

That would be really nice actually. It's going to be interesting how R* handles all this OST and VO business with the nightmare that is rights management. Hopefully they will get all the initially released tracks in - that at least would be a truly definitive soundtrack, and some way to appeasing the many horny hungry fans out here.

IMO, this would be a great opportunity to expand the soundtrack, GTA 3's original soundtrack is much shorter and it would be cool to see more 1999-2001 tracks thrown in.

There are some stations that need to be added. Like a jazz station, GTA 3 desperately missed that. A house music station (not trance, actual house/dance) would fit given how popular that was in the early 2000s.

They are still 3D universe, just retouched... HD and 3D universes are just names to separate RAGE games from RenderWare ones, where there are different narratives, it doesn't really have to do with how the games look. If we'd go by that GTA Advance and CTW would be in 2D Era...

Haa, yeah. I guess the limitations of game development 20 years ago.

Lol @ those saying this thread will exceed 400 or 600 pages. Just wait till the trailer or screenshots are revealed, we'll end up at at least 1000 and counting in just one day probably.

It doesn't really have to do with limitations per se, unless we're talking about monetary one... All the radios are single MP3 file, there isn't really a limit to it at all. I just assume that they just looked at the GTA II soundtrack, said to themselves, "yeah III will have double the time of the radios in II" and wanted something on a budget, so 15-25 minutes radios were fine by them...

given Head Radio is entirely done for the game itself, it's pretty impressive. I think Rise is probably, very surprisingly, my favorite station in the game... younger me would not have agreed with me at all.
