Regarding the predictions for the music in the trailer:

Indeed, I believe "Da Shootaz - Grand Theft Auto" would be the perfect choice if there's a single trailer for the three games. Also, "Push It To The Limit" would make the cut (since it's in GTA III and it's from Scarface like all the others in Flashback, so it would suit Vice City as well).

If there is one trailer for each game, I would choose:

~Any of the in-house Rockstar music that Craig Conner and Stuart Ross (the one who composed the main theme used in the teaser btw) made for GTA III (any of Head/Lips).
~Out of Touch or Video Killed The Radio Star for Vice City, and:
~Any of KDST/RadioX for San Andreas, or maybe this one:

A couple of months ago I was playing SA when this song came up in Bounce FM and somehow it contributed to create a magical moment during an orange-ish sunset in Los Santos that reminded me why these games are treasures. Never experienced that in GTAV.

gee I wonder what one thing that's so representitive in the game that would want more money for a re-release that tight arse Rockstar/Take 2 won't want to pay...

No, I don't think it's Phil that's holding them back. GTA VCS wasn't a big seller on PSP and PS2, so there was no reason to port it to Android and iOS. GTA LCS was a hit not only because it was the first version of GTA for PSP, but also because the game was used to exploit and jailbreak the console using broken savegames or similiar. But yes, licensed music is also an issue which VCS has a lot of.

I have mixed feelings about the OST's. Yes, they were absolutely great but damn... why would they pay millions of dollars if they can just create an "user radio", where you can put your own MP3's or whatever? If you can stream it on YouTube for free? Maybe it made sense 20 years ago, but today from a business standpoint it just doesn't make sense anymore.

It makes sense from a business standpoint because you're communicating to consumers that this is the real deal. the DEFINITIVE edition. When the Quake rerelease came out, the main thing that grabbed my attention was that they went out of their way to relicense the Trent Reznor soundtrack that previously was missing from every digital version of the game for YEARS. It shows that the developers are taking good care and consideration of the source material and truly want it to not only imitate what was released before with small enhancements, but actually be BETTER than it was. That is how you earn the name "definitive edition" in my book. It's all about implicit costs.

And yes, i know it's not the same thing if DJ's don't react to the songs anymore. If you have to put in work yourself instead of just getting into a car and listen to a song you maybe didn't know before. I know it's not the same. But still...

Also, players' reactions to music removal is understandable, but if they get replaced with similar songs that fit the game, I don't see a problem whatsoever. Take GTA IV for example: sure the previous songs were iconic and everything, but the current soundtrack is just as good imo. After a complete playthrough the soundtrack feels the same as it did before they removed the originals. Maybe I just got used to it, but it worked for me.

VCS isn't happening, if it was it would have happened back in 2016 with a mobile port like the rest. Clearly *something* is holding it back, and whatever it is it isn't budging any time soon.

And what could it be? I've heard theories about licensing issues with Phil Collins and things like that, but it seems to be it's simply Rockstar neglecting it for the sake of doing it. I mean, they could at least have acknowledged its decaversary with a 10-words tweet, but they didn't.

I think even with gtao they made enough $ to deal with all licensing issues with Phil Collins lol. Maybe it wasn't worth releasing it on mobile in 2016, but now that they rerelasing original trilogy, I can see them remaking LCS & VCS in couple years

Thats like saying movies won't use music ever again cause its cheaper that way. Also user radio was always a thing, at least on pc.

To be excited and be part of the hype is a huge deal of the fun while anticipating. Even if I wanted to, I don't know how to be chill and cool when R* is about to remaster my all time favorite games.

Years from now, I'll look back and reminiscing all the crazy stuff in this thread and the great feeling we share, while having a big smile. All this, and we got only a teaser. Can't wait 'till Friday!

Do you think the achievements will be common to the trilogy (3000G for xbox), will each game have its own separate?

They're listed as separate entities on Steam and even the R* Launcher so I assume they will be treated as different games and each will be 1000G.

It would be great to max out 3 games separately! : D Thanks!

I can see your point that people want their own musical choices nowadays. But the idea of a predetermined soundtrack is for the developers/producers/writers themselves to mould the user/viewer experience. Otherwise we could just go watch movies with our headphones on.

Honestly, yeah. The hype is half the fun, and it's not every day R* is about to release a project.

I said this before, will say it again. I was massivley hyped during the summer preceding GTA VCS release. All the music and 80s atmosphere. Was just to die for.

As i said, not saying they should do it (i wouldn't really care though) but i'd understand if they left common (expensive) songs out. No need to spend millions for this little bit of immersion but that is just my opinion.

What is "FPO" supposed to mean?

Edit: "In graphic design and printing, the phrases for position only or for placement only, or the initialism FPO, indicate materials that have been used as placeholders in a layout prior to it being declared finished and ready for publication."

I mean, i love original soundtracks or new stuff you haven't known before ("Billy Raffoul - Hell or High Water" in Days Gone) but this casual Britney Spears stuff? Don't really understand the movies with headphones argument. If they use soundtracks made by Hans Zimmer specifically for the movie, that is money will spent. Not old Britney Spears stuff i can listen to on YouTube.

if they add some new music in the remasters, can we at least get some memphis rap? it's the only type of rap we haven't seen in gta and it's definitely the best subgenre

I meant that if there would only be the option of putting on our own mp3s or Spotify stream, then it would defeat the purpose of a work of an audio-visual nature. For me the value in a soundtrack (not specifically composed but using licensed songs) is either the joy of recognization (for 80s songs in VC) or you get to know songs you hadn't heard before.

But this is me. Music is a big part of any kind of entertainment product for me. And during my every day life as well.

Quote

At the garage, the driver pulled out Sam's Porsche. Sam shot straight for the FDR Drive, the long stretch of highway on Manhattan's East Side. He reached for the iPod, which he had hooked up to his car stereo. “Let's see which one of these songs feels the best when you're driving fast,” Sam said and hit the gas. He pressed a button, triggering “Crockett's Theme,” the theme of Miami Vice. The pulsing synthesizer. The drums coming in. Then the weird sort of coke come-down chords, the strange almost Japanese plucking of a simulated harp. “This is the vibe of the game,” Sam said.

Fernandez leaned back as the golden city and more songs blurred. Teena Marie. Slayer. Phil Collins. As each played, he scribbled down the name, and they assigned it a rating for how well they thought it would fit. When one song in particular came on, Sam turned it up, and something came over his face. This was a song from his childhood, one that Dan and he had listened to back in the day. “More than this,” Bryan Ferry crooned, “you know there's nothing more than this.”

This is from the book Jacked: The Outlaw Story of Grand Theft Auto by David Kushner. I remember I was very positively suprised when I read it. There are even more tidbits on Vice City development in there.

It also kind of puts a damper on the name "Definitive Edition" when it is literally missing something the original game had. Kind of an oxymoron

This would just not fit any game from the Trilogy... Do y'all just throw random songs and see what sticks? III's atmosphere would be the closest to it, but the whole gimmick of the Game Radio, is that all the songs and performers are from Royce Da 5'9"'s label - Game Recordings...

Also I really don't think they will add anything at all in terms of music. At best I suspect they'll rebuy all the licenses for the songs that got axed in the anniversary, and even then I don't expect this much.
