i still think they are saving all the "official" info for october 22nd, it lands on a friday which is usually when rockstar drops news (gta online dlc announcements, trilogy announcement all came on fridays). I think on the 22nd we will get a massive amount of info with a release date, screen shots, gameplay trailer, maybe a comparison? and much more. But i dont see it releasing in october. I see it releasing a month after the 22nd

I can see them include a transition in the official Trilogy trailer. Would be cool seeing how the games are transformed

I really enjoy hearing about these revolutionary marketing campaigns, where a multi-billionaire company with the most succesful product of the history of entertainment ever, choose to leak logos, backgrounds and codes hidden on the internet for a few forums to discover.

Yeah, the leaks happen every single time totally on accident. Lol.

You don't see the bigger picture.

Leaks happen.

Leaks get posted on forums.

Youtubers get content from forums.

And ta da, millions of people see the Leaks via YouTube videos.

Marketing without $1 spent by R*. You are right, they are a multi-billion dollar company, because they do things a certain way. This way.

I was actually glad it leaked. I was already feeling a bit upset that Rockstar didn't share anything. Alloc8or made the day for a lot of people :D

I'd say this is a very controlled marketing plan. Usually in most cases Rockstar intends to hash URLs of content that they don't want people to see. However, in this case with the Trilogy, we can easily make guesses with URL names. Plus, no screenshots seem to be up on their servers so this is definitely part of marketing. Rockstar well knows we'd dig through almost everything

if they didn't want us to see something, it wouldn't be up at all - security through obscurity is no security at all! no matter how small the chance, we could guess hashes or reverse engineer how they calculate them.

this is a multi-billion dollar tech company. they definitely knew/know we'd find stuff, and i totally agree that it's part of the marketing / hype game

not in this manner - any competent programmer knows that security through obscurity is no security whatsoever. this is a billion dollar company we're talking about, not an indie studio. they are very careful about what they let slip, and that goes for what gets pushed to public codebases as well. otherwise we'd probably know a lot more about gta 6 and agent haha

I wonder if we'll have as many posts per second on the day this trilogy is released as on the day of heists update, whoever was here that day remembers how big the hype was.

If they just officialy announce or release the info (that are already there, no $ involved), it would be posted on forums and youtubers would get content the same way. Even more trustful.
Makes no sense "to pretend" a leak something.

Imagine a marketing meeting in a multi-bilionaire company, the boss start "this is the moment, we release 3 products per decade, what are we going to do to promote???" and someone raise his hand and "hey, what about faking a leak, let's pretend some backgrounds leaked from our laucher???"

the fact that you're talking so much about this proves the effectiveness of a fake leak strategy - nobody would be doing anything except rioting for new information right now if not for the fact that we have a reliable "leak" stream. now, we have dozens of people in the core community glued to the forums and dissecting the entire website, and many more people outside of it looking for information somewhat regularly.

might i remind you that the first leak involving this happened before it was even properly announced. that is dripping with intent, R* are no strangers to data miners. see: hot coffee, and the rdr2 pc launcher leaks

It's a pretty smart f*cking strategy.

>Someone leaks something on GTAF

>More engagement in the community

>Media outlets cover it

>Engagement within the industry

>Everyone expresses excitement

it proves nothing, my friend.
Obviously a leaked info from a very anticipated release will be talked.
A multi-billionaire company would rely their marketing campaign on leaking background, logos, and codes???
Paint three buildings in L.A. or pretend to leak a background??? what a doubt! One of the greatest marketing cases of our time. 🤔

they're not basing the entire campaign on it - they're basing the lead-up on it. the traditional billboards and bus advertisements are yet to come

Mate this isn't even close to the first time stuff has leaked.

Literally for a decade now, almost everything they have done has leaked ahead of time. Every game. Every update. They have almost all leaked.

If they wanted it to stop, they would have stopped it. It's completely on purpose.
