Personally don't think they made these just for the teaser as they also redid the achievements which is is something we were not supposed to see until the Trilogy releases, so I'm guessing they enhanced/redid all the artworks which will also come handy when used to replace the loading screens artworks.

Hi everyone. First post here. Been a long time fan of the series so decided to make an account and share some of my thoughts.

 

1. I find it a little strange that Rockstar took down the mods and sued some modders, even though they're delisting the older games. From what we can speculate the games were remade in a new engine so chances are the old mods wouldn't work with the DE. If that's the case, and they were gonna take down the older games, why go after the mods and modders?

 

Yes piracy exists but if they were hell-bent on making sure people don't get to play the older games with mods (because maybe that would be a better experience) they would've gone after websites where we can find pirated copies too, I think. I don't know the logistics behind legally going after modders, pirates, etc. Just a thought.

 

2. The announcement seemed a little strange as well. We got nothing besides the name, reworked existing artwork and "coming soon" this year. I guess the proper word to describe the video would be teaser. Off the top of my head I can't recall a single time when Rockstar released an announcement video with no gameplay.

 

I think that take2 took notice of the E&E reaction and refrained from using gameplay footage for the announcement, maybe because a little bit of polishing was remaining. Personally I think that the DE announcement and E&E trailers so far were made just to hit milestones for the sake of investors. If what I'm thinking is correct then the E&E trailer does not represent the final product.

 

If the E&E trailer does actually represent the final product then wow, Rockstar has fallen down hard. It'd be so uncharacteristic for the company too; the huge jump from san andreas to 4, the huge jump from ps3 gta 5 to ps4 gta 5, the huge jump from gta 5 to rdr 2, can't forget these can we.

If there’s any changes/updates to the soundtrack of San Andreas, this would be a welcome addition. After 15 years in HD…. It was time to go home…..

I am fine with all of this, except for one thing: if the leaked price isn't just rumor, and they intend on charging the latest iteration of the new full retail price of $70.00, then no, not for me. I have already purchased this Trilogy far too many times for far too many platforms to be willing to go that route. But if the $70.00 USD rumor ends up being just a rumor, and they charge about $15.00 for the Trilogy I have already paid for way too many times to count, then, sure, count me in. Same look and feel, slightly better res, same graphics and physics, and nothing else but QOL improvements? Okay, sounds like a plan. No hate to Rockstar, but they aren't getting me to shell out brand new retail PS5/Series-X game price for that.

Hey!

They went after the Total Conversion/Enhancement mods as they pose a "conflict of interest."
For Take-Two, those mods are probably like "piracy" in some ways, as you can have access to assets from other titles without purchasing them. 
Another reason, if Rockstar is making an enhanced version, Take-Two may see those mods as "competition" since they don't require purchases, just ownership of base games like San Andreas, Vice City and to a lesser extent III.

 

Reverse engineering projects fall into a legal gray area. People have reverse engineered software as a result of a lawsuit in which a company was sued by SEGA and won.

The details are a bit muddy to me right now, but from what I understand, the company that was sued only reversed parts of a proprietary publishing ?chip? or method for a SEGA console and got away with it. Setting a precedent for future lawsuits.

 

Despite the fact that it is an asshole move, T2 is entirely within their legal rights. They should have sent a cease and desist letter after the DMCA. However, there is a separate thread for that.

I think they are just conveniently building up hype and prepping up things. For one, the games aren't even rated on some boards yet (ESRB, USK, Brazil's one), from what I have seen only the Korean board and PEGI (though it's not on the website for some reason).
They also have to work with retailers to delist the old versions so I guess that gets in the way of things and they don't want to make a mess out of everything. Also, late announcement means less wait.

I'm sure Take Two has stated that Rockstar has a great deal of freedom to do whatever they want, in whatever way they want. 

(With the exception of legal matters, T2 owns intellectual property.)

One day or another they will have to show us what TDE is all about and set the pre-orders. They cannot avoid this forever.

 

Also, no, the E&E trailer is not the final product. 

It has bugs that have been fixed as well as other strangenesses, but I believe it will largely look like what you saw in the trailer.

But like I said earlier, there is a dedicated thread for that.

Also, you say Rockstar "has fallen down hard" but I also see you acknowledge the jump between GTA 5 to RDR 2. Which despite the time gap, exists and is very substantial. 
Given that they are now delivering a potentially and hopefully good definitive version of their most popular titles. How do you imagine things after TDE releases, granted it's a positive one?

I would say Rockstar has fallen down hard if the E&E trailer represents the final product, because there's seemingly nothing new in it.

 

I guess if TDE goes well take2 will see the older games as fresh sources of income with not as much work as compared to making new title or IP?
