Is it possible to run two different instances of GTA Online on the same machine?

Normally GTA V will tell you there is another instance running and refuse to launch.

I think it will require Sandboxie or a virtual machine.

You don't really need a public session, business battles happen in invite-only too, as long as there are 3 people.

Which ones spawn depends on the player count, I don't think you'll get the aircraft carrier, just the small ones.

Yikes! I may try it for fun (I'm such a Geek!), but running GTA under VBox, VMware,or even Windows VM in the Pro edition is going to be ugly if it runs at all.

If all the accounts are Steam accounts or Epic accounts that makes it even harder. And then if they are tied to RS Laucher,it is a serious doubt it will work good.

This is one of those thing that sounds like it should be straight forward, but it is not. From a programmer's pov,I can see a ton of conflicts. You have 2 (much less 3) programs using the resourses at the same time-there is just a lot that can go wrong.

But I'll get back to this thread sometime soon I hope. I have a 2nd account unused. I was going to just plop it on a different system but I'll have as much fun making this work as playing the game.

I'm thinking of trying Windows 10 running one Epic account, then have Windows run VBox which runs Linux which runs Steam for Linux. Hummm, maybe.

Keep in mind I'll be using a 64 core Threadripper with 256 Gig of fast memory,etc...not your average home computer.

I'll get back to you.

Just get a third computer then it works to 100%, i got 3 computers, but i don't see the point using more than one in this game. :D

Got these 3:

R9 5950x, RTX 3080, 32 GB RAM, M2 NVMe PCI-E 4.0 SSD (Current Main Rig, build it together myself)

i7-4930K, GTX 1070 had 2 actually but removed one, 32 GB RAM, regular SSD (Old Rig, build it together myself)

i7-9750H, RTX 2070, 16 GB RAM, M2 NVMe PCI-E 3.0? not sure SSD (Laptop, MSI GL63 9SFK-1001DE)

The cool thing is i got a bluetooth keyboard, that i can just switch between all 3, also i got 3 X-Box One Controllers. And 3 monitors (Laptop Display 144 HZ '15.6 non G-Sync sadly, LG OLED B9 '55 TV 120 HZ G-Sync that i use as gaming monitor and an older Acer 144 HZ G-Sync '27 monitor. And all 3 computers even have own soundsystems lol. Main Rig has Yamaha + Teufel surround combination 7 speakers + 2 subwoofers, laptop has some cheap Bose stereo speakers, and Old Rig has a cheap 2.1 creative sound. Oh yeah im a freak. :D

You can definitely get the carrier BB in a 3-player friend-only session, I get heartily sick of it showing up, along with the Cluckin Bells Factory one.

OP, I have Steam and Epic installed side-by-side on 3 of my 4 machines, and it is only disk space that prevents the 4th having both installed.

I have 4 licenced copies - 1 original PC release Steam, 1 Steam with CESP, 2 "free" Epic with CESP.

Each install relies on the common Rockstar Games Launcher which will detect the other instance running and quit the 2nd instance from starting up.

It may be possible to install separate instances of the R* Launcher that each version will use, if you do this from the start (I have never tried that) and this might then work, but I doubt it.

My rigs are considerably lower spec than Mexicola9302's, and if you are not actively "playing", 15-20fps at potato resolution works fine as a zombie session.

e.g. Something as low-spec as my:

  • Lenovo T430Ss
  • Intel Core i5-3320M @2.6Ghz
  • 8GB RAM
  • On-board Intel HD4000 Graphics

No problem. Making a server slow, unstable and having next to no security is a cinch.

Oh yeah. I didn't even consider this perspective. You generally don't need the 2nd account to be "playable",you just need it to run. Then you can have the "2 or more" Players requirement.

From that angle,I'll try VBox using a Windows .iso and go from there. That should work.
