Mister Pink
To be released (when it's ready) Retro futuristic, single player, action adventure game with western vibes. You are a bounty hunter trying to survive in dystopian, post-apocalyptic world. 20 years ago the Great Fire Disaster set most of the world on fire causing mass extinction and destruction of life and earth. Only 30% of mankind has survived, only a few spots on earth are possible to live. As the governments failed, corporations took control. The world is plunging into chaos and anarchy. Welcome to New York in 1998.You are an Exekiller, a futuristic bounty hunter. Your main goal is collecting S.O.U.L.S - biochip component which gathers information about its owner and also controls him. Chips are produced by one of the biggest corporations that rule the New Earth. Without S.O.U.L you simply don't exist. PLAYER DRIVEN STORYHow you approach The Exekiller is up to you. Your choices affect not only the way the story develops - it also lets you face every situation any way you like. Your decisions affect the storyline that offers massive replayability. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1701840/ExeKiller/ So, probably not going to be released for a long time. Might not be a great game at all but it looks nice. I like the idea of it. It's from an indie Polish developer. Lots of movie references in the trailer - lines ripped right out of movies like Dirty Harry and references to The Godfather etc. DEADWOODZ and Ivan1997GTA 2 𝙼𝚄𝚂𝙸𝙲 𝙽𝙾𝙽 𝚂𝚃𝙾𝙿
DEADWOODZ
This and VIGILANCE 2099 look very promising. Mister Pink
Jason
Between this and games like Vigilance and many others, there definitely seems to be a boom in "AA" RPG's coming over the next few years. Not sure all of them will make it out of the cooker, and some will undoubtebly come out raw and jank will be everywhere most likely but I'm hopeful nevertheless. The RPG genre is one needing some serious innovation in the AAA space and given that most (all?) innovation comes with indie stuff these days, hopefully these games can try some new cool stuff that gets picked up to make the AAA RPG scene more interesting - on top of having some great AA experiences to play of course. GiveMeLiberty78
Thanks for sharing the link @Mister Pink. I am open-minded about it; its development could go either way. I read the threads over at Steam, and some of the posters are skeptical about whether it is even legit (e.g., not a scam), much less achievable. But I like the concept, so I'll be following it. Cyberpunk 2077 has become a bit of a yard stick, for better or worse, so maybe if nothing else some of its successes and shortcomings will inspire similar projects. Themanwiththeplan
This looks interesting. I will defo be following this game. In my opinion these kind of indie devs are the way forward. The big AAA companies are too focused on how to introduce monetisation to their games. They don't innovate with gameplay, it's the same game churned out every 1-2 years. Mister Pink
I would love to see some developers make their name in the AA space and if a bigger publisher picks them up or the get AAA investment based on their first release in a series, it would be nice. I think there is incentive there for indie devs to be picked up by bigger publishers. Netflix have just bought their first developer (Night School Studio, Oxenfree). Whether a dev wants to stay independent or not there are some devs, I'm sure that would want the relative security and/or investment a publisher like Sony or Microsoft can offer. Vigilance and ExeKiller are quite inspired looking projects. And I'm sure Microsoft and other publishers/developers are looking at acquiring new studios that can fill gaps that gamers want. I'm still craving that big cyberpunk RPG AAA experience. Cyberpunk 2077 being undercooked, Deus Ex being put on hold means there is still a unfulfilled space for cyberpunk RPG's. Deus Ex is still the definitive cyberpunk game for me. I really wish they would make another title. The interest is there. Until then, I hope these indie developers can pull off their projects. I'm going to try support them if they do. Tchuck 1 𝙼𝚄𝚂𝙸𝙲 𝙽𝙾𝙽 𝚂𝚃𝙾𝙿
Jason
Being open minded about games, especially AA and indie games, is the way to go these days IMHO. I remember finding a game called No Truce with the Furies and thinking it looked cool, from a complete unknown developer from Estonia. I kept it on my Steam wishlist for years and years checking out the store page/news every now and then for any new info until it finally released in 2019 with a new name. The final name was Disco Elysium, and it's one of the greatest CRPG's of all time. Now I follow a loads of RPG's on Steam, like ExeKiller and Vigiliance, just to keep an eye on them, many won't be hits but every now and then an absolute gem might slip through and it'll give you an experience you'll never get in an AAA experience. Nice! I have actually been waiting for Disco Elysium to go on sale so I can pick it up. It looks great.
