Can You Access the Mechanic In the Auto Shop Without Parking the Vehicle the Garage?

Okay, I love the discount I get for upgrading personal vehicles. Since the Tuners Update, I decided to fully modify all my personal vehicles. Not an easy task, since I have about 150 of them, and had only done about 75 before the Update. lol Anyway, I did it, tedious as it was. Now whenever I buy a new personal vehicles I don't already own from one of the many dripfeed price specials, I immediately modify it with all the upgrades to performance. So a few minutes ago, I was driving a vehicle I just purchased to the Shop for the purpose of upgrading it, but it seems like the only way to access the mechanic is by entering a parking space. So I then have to drive the vehicle back to its original place, because now the game sees its location as the Auto Shop. I assume this is just an idiosyncrasy of the game and there is no way around this?

 

I wonder also if I buy another vehicle (there are a few I want from the dripfeed sales) and send it to the Shop, I will then have all 10 spaces filled. Will this mean I can no longer use the shop for customizing other vehicles, since I won't be able to get into a full garage? Or will the game then ask me if I want to access only the mechanic when I pull up to the full Auto Shop?

You can't use the mechanic unless you store the vehicle there. I always leave one spot empty so I can park in, tune, then drive it to where it usually lives. 

 

Regarding buying other vehicles/full garages though, I have no experience with that as I always take care to buy something and pop it in a planned empty spot. But yeah, once the auto shop has 10 vehicles  you can't use the mechanic unless you move a car out to elsewhere.

Thanks, @Lonely-Martin. Unfortunately, I had a feeling that would be the case. Hopefully Rockstar addresses this in a future patch, as it is a little inconvenient to have to park in a space as the only way to access the mechanic there. I have left one space available for the same reason as you. I have a ton of personal vehicles, and they are all stored in garages with like vehicles. All super cars, for instance, go into my 60 Office spaces, all Classic Sports together, all luxury together, all Military together, etc. The other option is to just not even worry about it, I suppose. The discount is fine, but I have so much money now, just for the sake of convenience, I may just go to the LS Customs closest to where I want to store all future vehicle purchases.

Yeah, can be a bit of a task, lol. One thing many of us vehicle collectors would love it a tweaked vehicle management system. But we'll just have to see if R* do anything in future.

 

Just an option to switch vehicles around by calling the mechanic would be a great help I'm sure.

You don't need to leave one space free. Just call in the car you want to mod and exchange it with one car of the auto shop. The car from the auto shop will be saved at the location and in the space you have saved the car you want to mod. After modding just call in the exchanged car and drive into the auto shop. You can exchange it again with the modded car and both cars will be saved in the same locations and spaces they were saved before modding. Pretty simple.

Okay so maybe someone can confirm this to be true or not for me. But it seems like jockeying personal vehicles around in the Auto Shop, leaving one spot empty, and so forth, may be unnecessary. I decided to use the Auto Shop to store my Tuner Update vehicles, for when I decide to start messing around with the gameplay stuff in the shop. So, since I own 10 of 17 of the new Tuner Dripfeed vehicles, I just left 10 there, and since I have a ton of money anyway, I just decided to drive my brand new 4 or 5 Dripfeed discount sale-vehicles to LS Customs to mod and upgrade, disregarding the Shop's mechanic discount. But when I drove into LS Customs I seemed to have the same discounts I did in the Auto Shop garage. So when you purchase and upgrade the Auto Shop, is it possible that this unlocks the discounts whenever you go to any of the shops, even Benny's?

I'm wondering that as well. I didn't notice the discount difference.

A little bit unrelated, but if your shop is full and you want to customize your car in an autoshop, you can also enter other players autoshops to customize your car there.

You could just use the car meet, seeing how you'll get rep, you'll have access to coloured lights, and you can return PV to storage & call the mechanic from within that interior.

I've noticed that crew colour is free in lsc but not crew tire smoke . Also with autoshop chrome SUV wheels are all free ....I just noticed this recently ...I havnt checked lsc on this but they were free at bennys . I'm not 100% sure about free classic paint at lsc like the auto shop but all other upgrades are full price at lsc for me

This is not the case for me. I only get the discount at the auto shop. Maybe it's a console thing?

 

For getting cars into the auto shop quicker, I use the method described by @SebKle78. Although I had a problem once, I believe related to the auto shop dupe glitch, so I use an ordinary nearby garage to do the swapping, and leave 1 space free in the auto shop. The 1 single spot seems like it was made for this anyway.

I think the free wheels is an unlock.  I have a few types of chrome rims that are all free(SUV,high end off the top of my head) and it's been that way for a few years for me now.  It's a reward you unlock, I don't remember what made them unlock, but I feel like 100 heists was one of them, but don't quote me on that.

True, but I don't think you get the colour unlocks and sh*t by default. They just act like LSC and all of the other, where only the stuff you unlocked you can buy. So if you haven't unlocked chrome paint or whatever, then yolu can't get it unless you do it in your auto shop.
