Is Packie McReary random event available?

I'd like to ask if anyone has triggered that random event recently because it was removed in February and I'm not sure if it was added back.

Btw, I started with my second character and when I was delivering supplies to setup my cocaine factory, I saw a police van leaving stores area by Route 68, but its sirens weren't on and random event blip wasn't on the radar, additionally it shouldn't been available during a "mission" I guess.

Over the past couple of weeks I keep seeing the blue dot and the police van, but every time I approach it the dot disappears and the cops get out and just stand there and then you can't do anything with it.  A couple of times the van has completely despawned in front of me, or I've noticed the rear doors open and nobody inside.

 

At first I thought it was happening because I didn't own the arcade, but my friend said it shouldn't matter?

A couple times in recent weeks I have seen what looks like the Packie event--police van going by with sirens on, no other player within miles of me and I didn't have a wanted level. But I didn't have a blue dot and wasn't able to steal the van. I presumed it was because I already did this event before, but it's also possible that it's glitched, I suppose.

Same thing happened to me on my first character, I haven't found Packie yet. Once I encountered the event again with my friend, he asked if he can rescue Packie to unlock him as a gunman for his heist, I agreed.

And I don't think you need to own the arcade, because events are available anytime. When I started GTA Online on PS4, I visited casino, went to the roof and guess what? I triggered the cutscene with Yang Ancestor and received a message from Lester saying that Yang may help with casino heist (I haven't even watched the casino heist intro cutscene in Mirror Park!), it breaks logic, uh.

Yeah, the event is still bugged. I ain't sure if you can rescue Packie again if you did it before.

Friend of mine told me you could, you get paid 20K cash if you do, haven't done it on myself on the main account though I trust he is probably right.

i saw the police van (sirens on, no other players, no stars, etc) the other day southwest of sandy shores near the gas station mc clubhouse. was busy so i let it pass but it’s likely it was the packie random event. it didn’t show a blue dot however.

I got it recently when doing a setup for the new mini heists. I got in the van with Packie and drove to the city and waited till @REXX finished with the setup. I think only then it showed me where to deliver Packie.

It was the first time where I didn't accidentally kill Packie when trying to kill the driver or one of the many times Packie just wasnt in the van so only now can I use him for that heist.

 

In other words: Yes, the Packie random event is available.

Yes I just did it a few days ago. Spawned in after doing some races and while having to do some PvP the blue dot appeared and that's what it was.

Damn, this event is still bugged, saw the van today, a blue dot, but I got wanted level immediately, cops got off to attack me and Packie wasn't inside.
Saw the van blown up in another session, Packie has passed out, but we know he will be saved and captured again!

The Event has always been bugged. Another "We Fixed it" lie from R* as well. That lobby you saw that in likely was "Broken" due to this. Yellow Markers not working, Free mode events/Business Battles outright stop triggering. The usual stuff.

The Avenger and Kosatka had a one hit kill armor bug. Both have been "Fixed" however both will still get the bug if destroyed once and called back in still. I expect this event to be removed again at some point given it's not a surprise to me that the amount of "The Yellow Marker broken" posts here and on the r/GTAOnline subreddit started to increase again following the Packie Random Event being readded. Given I've long pointed out that the Van not despawning is tied to broken lobbies (which is almost every lobby because MKII Broomstick B*tchs just fire at anything they lock onto at this point).

Depends. From I've seen if no one bothers to complete it, it'll just drive around for a bit and might despawn (keyword "might"). What really outright f*cks the lobby is when someone has the big brained idea to blow it up. It never actually despawns so it seems to just overrides all other events. Basically one of the many ways to confirm this personally is if you spawn in to a "Press *button here* to join on going business battle" and if you walk outside to discover that said "Business Battle" isn't going on, go look around for a burnt out police van. This also seems to be what was causing the Yellow Marker of Death bug in Sell Missions and what not for a long time. Seems their "fix" of it didn't actually work as well, because the same issues that seemingly seem tied to it are showing up again more often. 


Long answer short: It is not bugged until someone has the bright idea to blow it up.

I did this 2 weeks ago on xbox.  I was doing the Richards Majestic mystery at the time.   The last few are random events that have specific locations. You can keep joining new sessions to trigger them.  I got the Packie mission near the Epsilon cult location.  I got the desk key for the cayo perico golden gun as well.  I had the sleeping guy spawn about 4 times before the mystery random event  Completely unintentional, I had no idea they were bugged.

Yeah, Packie may spawn in various locations, well, gotta camp in sessions until succeed.

Dunno. Btw, I successfully triggered the event today on Route 68 between evening and night, but of course two kids in Insurgent met me near casino and blew the van up...

Update: Finally managed to complete that, for me the best spawn point was Route 68, mostly near Sub Urban store.

Do I really need a 2nd person, or is this thing that bugged?  Twice now I got Packie to spawn in a Invite Only with just me in the session.  Both times after about 30 secs the van stops, cops come out and the blue dot disappears. This on Route 68.

For some reason I couldn't trigger the event in Invite Only, Friends, Gang and Solo sessions, only in Public ones. First time I had same bug but it was fine on my second and third attempts. I approached the van carefully to trigger scripts properly, still had an issue after killing the driver, I couldn't take him out. The only thing helped me is killing a passenger, pulling him out and getting on driver seat from a passenger side.

Completed this last night. I was in the middle of a nightclub sale. Abandoned the Speedo and delivered him instead. Then went back to the Speedo and managed to finish that as well. Seems like he only spawns when you ARE busy. I thought originally it was the opposite, so many minutes of freeroam inactivity before he triggered. That way you didn't have to 2 jobs at the same time like I did.

Finally got this damn event done.  Pretty sure you need at least 2 people for it to not  bug out.  Used my dummy account in a invite lobby, and Packie spawned along Route 68.  Was able to shoot out the guards and drive him back with no problems.

only completionists should worry about whether they get this or not. The going strategy is to get the cheapest gunman anyway so Packie would never end up being used anyway. Its Avi the one you really want, the extra 15 seconds he gives could make the difference on looting all the gold in the vault if thats the score.

Yes, Patrick McReary Random Event is back after nearly a five month hiatus. When I was doing a Payphone Contract mission for Franklin, I spotted something with a little blue dot on my minimap and I discovered that it was Patrick "Packie" McReary in a Police Transporter Van. I was chasing it with my Oppressor MK2, and through sheer luck, the transport van stopped at the signal and I killed two guys driving it. Then at first, it was bugging for a second and I finally got inside the van. I called Lester to remove my wanted level, drove Patrick and his friend to the location and I successfully completed it. My first attempted was almost two years ago when I tried to get access to the van, but I was killed by the police and got my vehicle impounded. After so many attempts, I finally rescued Patrick and unlocked him as a Heist Crew Member for the Casino Heist. He is without a doubt the best Heist Crew Member to get.
