CJ looks tall because he is skinny as hell but actually he is short because C.R.A.S.H took all his height and left him nothing but small change 😀

I think they made all characters the same height in gameplay just because it's easier. Simple things like getting in and out of cars are made much more complicated by characters being different heights. But they could make them taller or shorter in cutscenes because it wouldn't interfere with gameplay (and they wanted to so their heights at least looked realistic some of the time/when you're really focusing on different characters interacting with each other). Simple as that.

so how tall is Cj?

Considering that even Ryder appears to be slightly taller than him I'd place him around 170 cm maybe? But he definitely doesn't look 6'1, at least not in the cutscenes.

I'm guessing rockstar made him short so his head wouldn't stick out when he's in a car.

Ahhh. I do not know. But I have something about it. My guesses:

- Like in the 10th Anniversary Version or so called "Remastered" Version. Maybe they made CJs Cutscene model bigger? This thing is present in GTA III aswell. But every character is big in GTA III.

- All of the Cutscene Objects / Characters / Cars are bigger or wider than original parts. For example: Police Car in the "The End of Line Part 3". It's bigger than normal one.

- May be motion capture is bugged?

Reminder: These are guesses. I'm not sure.

Yeah. It’s like Santo in TBOGT. In the cutscene he’s considerably taller than Luis yet in gameplay he’s roughly the same height. I’m pretty sure it’s the same with Lamar too in GTA V.

We have to remember there’s a difference between the character models presented in the prerendered cutscenes as opposed to real time gameplay.

It’s probably how the game engine scales the character models when it makes the transition and other technical jargon involved.

As a modder, I must clarify that cutscenes with motion-capture animations aren't pre-rendered and they take place in real game time, actually.

And no, RenderWare never scales the character models for cutscenes. In fact, the cutscenes don't even use the actual character models at all! From a technical point-of-view, they're basically just skinned cutscene objects that act as more sharply-animated versions of the actual characters they're meant to represent. Anyway, to put it simply: The reason why CJ looks more taller in mo-cap cutscenes is simply because the cutscene variants of CJ's body part models (feet, legs, torso, head) collectively become more taller than their gameplay variants when combined together. I believe CJ's height most likely ended up noticeably lower than Ryder's because almost all peds and characters in SA are intentionally designed to be really low-poly.:)

They really screwed up the in game scale for some reason. Some normal cars are taller than CJ, like the Stafford. It definitely looks silly. A Rolls Royce the size of an SUV, or CJ is just a little babby.

I stand corrected.:p

That was a good read.
