I'm guessing it was mandated by Sony executives. I can't imagine this being Polyphony Digital's intent.

On one hand I'd say this isn't it cause Sony's first party M.O. hasn't tacked on any of that stuff in the past, but Sony did recently say they're releasing more service based games so.... maybe you're actually right?

Today's update has made this game absolute trash. I was already starting to get fed up with being broke after dumping more three times the price of my car into upgrades and today my settings were reset. This whole pp sh*t is a joke as well.

Was playing on normal, but had to switch to beginner because I was getting my ass handed to me on the cafe 31 tournament and NPCs are more filthy than wreckfest.

I thought this was a simulation, but apparently poly whatever their called has never drove a rear wheel drive car in the rain. Hey dipsh*ts, rear wheel drive cars have a high tendency to OVERSTEER! Especially in wet conditions.🤦🏻‍♀️ Every f*cking car in this game plows. A goddamn Prius is more tail happy than an S15. Seriously wtf?

the head of janitor: make it harder to even piss them more

Yeah, I spoke too soon.

Don't get me wrong, the actual cars, driving, graphics etc are all fantastic and to see tuning return too is all cool.

But the idea of not being able to play my game when I want but see it's been taken offline for a good 24 hours is pathetic. This always online crap that came from GT Sport is ridiculous. I'm playing the single player content and I own my game, not these clowns FFS. Joke!

And the latest comment from Polyphony after nerfing credit rewards is an absolute joke too...

https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2022/03/gran-turismo-7-ps5-ps4-patch-restores-servers-after-24-hours-polyphony-digital-comments-on-microtransactions

This part is utter horsesh*t:

"We will in time let you know the update plans for additional content, additional race events, and additional features that will constructively resolve this"

Err, what?

Why nerf payouts only to then basically tell us to wait until they 'constructively resolve this'?? Why not leave the payouts as they were and then when the new content comes, then maybe make changes as there will be ways to earn just fine added so the negative impact won't be there so much.

All they're doing here is just taking the piss. We know with games like this where the emphasis is on microtransaction sales are key, whose to say more content is guaranteed?!

Seems they haven't learned to do better after the farce that was GT Sport, but I was wrong. I'd try for a refund but that'll get me nowhere obviously. But they really deserve all the criticism they get right now.

How about you resolve the issue of having a persistent online connection just to play the game instead?

Remember when the Unity ports of the first two Doom games launched and they required an online connection AND a Bethesda.net account login just to play them in the first place? People were really pissed off about that, and soon, Bethesda dropped both requirements in a patch, and the reception was much more positive after that. Why can't Polyphony do the same thing? They promised us that the game would be playable offline, so what the heck happened there?

I'm still thinking that the "always-online" requirement for GT7 was a mandate from the higher-ups at Sony, and not Polyphony.

I was quite hyped for the game before, still am but on a discount, but it feels now like the head of the game is losing it regarding a few things.

Yamauchi:

Quote

“In GT7 I would like to have users enjoy lots of cars and races even without microtransactions,” he claimed. “At the same time the pricing of cars is an important element that conveys their value and rarity, so I do think it’s important for it to be linked with the real world prices.

“I want to make GT7 a game in which you can enjoy a variety of cars lots of different ways, and if possible would like to try to avoid a situation where a player must mechanically keep replaying certain events over and over again.

It's a video game, nobody can own 99% of those cars in real life, so people head to GT for their dreams.

Building a comfy gallery of vehicles someone likes is what GT is all about and now you take that away.

If it is to be linked with real world prices, people simply won't play the game or will find other hobbies.

As for mechanically replaying certain events over and over - lowering the payouts does exactly that, if people do not turn to microtransactions.

But looking at the prices, you'd have to cash out 3 times the price of the game just to get enough credits for a few most expensive cars. V bad.

Plus the game being taken down including the single player portion looks pretty bad.

This feels like a few words we hear in GTA recently, lets hope it is not too late for GT.

It's always amazing when this stuff happens these days because we have multiple examples of games in the past that tried it and created an absolute sh*tstorm for it - Forza Motorsport 7 springs to mind.

When in-game progression is directly tied to your main in-game currency and you monetise that currency it always has massive, far reaching and ultimately negative effects on the games progression. GTAO's a huge example of this but there are others, the grind always ends up being inflated to insane levels in order to encourage mtx purchases. The community never responds well to this. Just blows my mind that we have devs making the same mistakes other devs have made years ago.

That said, Sony did say they plan on releasing more service based games so perhaps this is what happens when the publisher forces the developer to make their game a service based game mid development with monetisable components.

It’s a shame all this bad press is taking away from at its heart is a extremely well done and competent entry level sim.

It’s actually quite depressing. Up until a few days ago I loved going on YouTube and watching people live streaming, talking about the things they like about it etc, but it’s been a horror show the last 3 days.

I had a feeling that GT7 was never going to be able satisfy everyone, but I didn’t think it was going to get Cyberpunk 2077/GTA Trilogy esque levels of condemnation.

But I get it. While the micro transactions fiasco doesn’t bother me too much as I’ve been playing at a pace that suits me where I don’t need to “grind” I do sympathise with people who feel they’ve been jitted.

All in all I hope things improve moving forward. PD have been doing a great job squashing bugs with small updates not long after they’ve been discovered so I have confidence that they can get on top of the in game economy issues with the planned updates, but too much good will has been lost.

GT is Sony’s flagship I.P to me. It’s been around the longest and after a decade of so-so GT games GT7 doesn’t deserve to be flushed down the toilet because of corporate bull.

It’s technically brilliant at its core, but like most games in this day and age it’s being let down by totally avoidable factors.

I'd just like to state at this juncture that £70 will get you a copy of Gran Turismo 4 (the best game in the series), bike expandalone Tourist Trophy AND a second-hand PS2 to play them on. No online activation required.

30 hours would be a decent turnaround for a graphical error or two. When the entire game is rendered unplayable for that length of time I call that indefensible. Funny thing is, I only found out about the outage on Friday because by the time 1.07 rolled around I'd already uninstalled. PS5 storage is at a premium, after all. If you're talking about the ability to earn credits as being a bug, yeah they're on top of that in a flash. Can't have too many players having actual fun, can we? It will be interesting to see if they disable Remote Play for GT7 in the next update too. I thought about using that exploit, but that would involve giving this game more of my time and I'm opposed to that on principle..

Kaz wants us to think more long-term. I agree. I'm thinking that in the long term I'm never buying another GT game.

I don't play GT since I don't own a Playstation, but the way these MTX are described gives me Battlefront 2 vibes across the board. I gave up playing GTAO for reasons like these and I really couldn't imagine how I'd react to have a game I was super hyped have the rug pulled out from under me with this kind of monetization.

They do seem to have responded in a better way. Hopefully they do really good with the upcoming patches but we'll see. Free million credits to all too.

I spent mine on a Dodge Tomahawk.😛

Pretty ironic PD make this announcement on the same day R* does the most anti consumer thing possible and announce GTA+ or whatever for GTAO and manages to find another way to piss off their fanbase. Great.

But back to PD and GT7. I think it’s great they’re listening. It’s rare in this day and age developers actually take the time to take feedback on board and open themselves up to change. In PD’s case it’s not like they have other games they can turn to in hard times and sweep the negative press under the rug and hope it blows over. Gran Turismo is their lifeblood.

Sure there’ll be people who’ll say “they were caught with their hand in the cookie jar”, but I appreciate they’ve been able to take on the chin and actively try to work with the community rather than hiding away for weeks on end.

The fact they’re starting this as early as the next couple of weeks has me excited. I miss endurance races and new cars, tracks etc are always welcome. I don’t know if it’ll be enough, but I went into this game with the expectation of it being more of a marathon than a sprint anyway. In it for the long haul baby.❤️❤️💪

Sorry for the double post, but the first major update just dropped and has begun  sorting out the economy.

Can now earn millions from circuit experience…excellent.

No joke, but apart those couple of days when the servers were down I have played this game everyday since March 4th. I have a playing time of almost 100 hours lol.

Excuse me while I try and get a life after I blow all of my credits on some rare Ferrari, Lamborghini etc.

You got a lot of free time, huh? Meanwhile I can barely play 2-3 hours a week ☹️

Ditto. I do think this game has a long way to go in terms of updates and DLC before it can be recommended to everyone, a bit like Gran Turismo Sport at launch (or, as I prefer to call it, Gran Turismo 7: Prologue), but it's nice to hear that Polyphony is listening to feedback from fans.

Personally, I could see Gran Turismo 7's car list with DLC included growing to be somewhere between GT2 and GT4's car lists. Don't get me wrong, the more cars, the merrier, but I think Polyphony is aiming towards quality over quantity, which is a good thing, considering how many cars in Gran Turismo 5 and 6 were just taken straight from GT4 with little-to-no alterations. Although, it would be nice to see some of them recreated from scratch for GT7, with a proper interior, and all, like they did with the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo V and Honda S2000, for example.

In terms of DLC tracks, I'd love to see some brought back from the previous games, like Red Rock Valley and Grindelwald from Gran Turismo 2, and Complex String from GT3: A-Spec. Imagine how great these tracks would look in GT7.

One of the reasons I skipped out on Sport  initially was its heavy focus on online and  almost non-existent single player so I waited a couple of years. It still wasn’t quite the same though especially with the lack of proper tuning.

Compared to that GT7 is in a much stronger position out of the gate and IMO  is what Sport should’ve been.

With the second major update just released it’s clear things will be a slow burn. They’re not going to drop 20 cars, a heap of new tracks etc in a single update. This will take time and I’d say we won’t see it hit its apex (no pun intended) for a few more years.
