Should rockstar add real clothing brands?

I'd rather they not. But we're already seeing it with Civilist and MISBHV clothing added.

 

I feel once you open that door, it's one that'll be hard to shut. If it becomes successful, who's to say what's next? Burger King instead of Burger Shot for example?

 

Then these huge mega companies with their major sponsorship money and a family friendly image to be mindful of with shareholders and so on. Hmmm. That's my concern anyway, lol. It's one thing promoting up and coming brands I guess but I hope it doesn't let influential companies in.

 

Wouldn't be good to see R* unable to do what R* do best, take the royal piss out and parody these companies, if a company offers millions to stop doing that.

 

At least that's my two cents.

No, we're getting the same T-Shirts, same hoodies, same sweaters too - you'll just pay 20 grand per re-texture because they got some underground brand widely known in very select circles to paste their logo on it.

No. GTA is intended to be a parody, and you can’t parody something you have to respect licensing agreements with. The Devel car company tried to get R* to add the Devel Sixteen rather than the Devest8 fictional version, they were willing to let R* use it completely free and with no strings attached. R* still said no, purely on principle. This is how GTA should be. It just allows them free reign to do what they want. 
 

That being said, I wouldn’t care if real fashion labels produced limited edition real versions of in-game fashion items like Bigness or Perseus.

fake brands allow for some clever jokes. just because r*ckstar has become one doesn't mean they have to get rid of one of the premises of the franchise

I wish GTA VI would take place in a real city, with real car brands, and real clothing brands, also real electronics brands etc. just everything should be real. We finally wouldn't have to beg for cars anymore that just look like the real life counterpart, no it would be the real deal.

 

But that will never happen, because Take2 & Rockstar wanna save the money of the licenses, because they are greedy as f*ck.

In my opinion, Rockstar should continue doing what they do best: fictional settings and parodies.

Adding real brands creates too many issues with licensing deals, and they should not be depending on that.

Maybe it's just about licensing money, but sometimes it means you will only be allowed to sell the game for a limited time period, say 4 years.

I won't call any names, but one of my favourite games went out of store last week without a sequel, you don't want that either.

Sure, people still play that game, and they had 4 years to buy it, but think about newcomers to the franchise who are fishing behind the net missing out.

I don't want to resort to buying a console and a used disk just so I can play an old game.

The concept of the "cheap discounter", i.e. a supermarket with very low profit margins, is pretty unique to Germany, so that's why it's special in other countries. Walmart abandoned its expansion into Germany because they couldn't make enough money due to the tough competition set by chains like Aldi, Lidl, etc.

Its not about money. No "image conscious" brand wants to be associated with GTA, especially in this politically correct world and the toxic rise of cancel culture. It's a can of worms to be avoided by all costs, they're automatically guilty by association of everything bad that happens in GTA & become the target of every constantly offended wanna be activists. Lets say for example:

 

1. You ran over a woman npc in a Ferrari, its a bad look for them and now they have to deal with the ambulance chasers and feminist groups. Ferrari is already accused of being sexist because the overwhelming majority of their clients are males.

 

2. You ran over patrons of Cockatoos in a Bentley, now Bentley have to deal with the LGBT activists.

 

3. You deliver narcotics in a BMW, BMW have to deal with the Kathy Newmans of the world. "So you support drug trafficking?"

 

 

Fortnite is a cartoonish shooter game while GTA is a crime simulator with a very toxic playerbase, that's a completely different ballgame and no brand with a competent legal department would touch it with a mile long pole. They might talk & do some chest bumping, like W Motors or the Ring Brothers, but that's all there is to it, just talk.

No, they shouldn't. It doesn't fit with GTA's world which is satirising real life - every brand or person is clearly an exaggeration of something real, or a blend of more than one real thing. Sprunk, Burgershot, Schlongberg Sachs, Benefactor, Fruit Computers etc.

 

As soon as you add real brands you've just got a complete mess. The odd cameo of real life celebs playing exaggerated versions of themselves is just about acceptable.

 

Basically, this suggestion would just be a lazy way to try to make money. Which is not good for the franchise, even if it's good for Take2. If you want to see what happens when companies find lazy ways to make money, look at Valve, Steam, and what happened to Half Life 3.

Jokes aside isn't it the plot of Driver: Parallel lines and they got licensed brands? Anyway, TV news got GTA branded as the root of all evil, while kids shoot at each other in Fortnite and it's perfectly fine, so, TL:DR it's all a matter of Propaganda.

Simple answer: No.

 

First, i don't want to get stimulated by ingame brand or product placements as long as it doesn't add any value in regards of immersion. One part of the DNA of GTA is satire/parody for slight criticism and humoristic display of the real world. It would just not fit into the game at all. You would cut off one vital part of the DNA which is important for distinction to other products on the market. Other aspects in regards of social responsibility are important too. It was and is a big "NO, NO" in so many aspects.

just saw a video of 5Real and im not sure how a game can look so pretty but also be such an eyesore at the same time. the mod is fine and all, but watching all those real brands everywhere just feels wrong. i don't know if it's the idea of frying my pc just to have a coke ad when i drive, but for anyone curious, i think there's solid proof of why real brands just wouldn't work
