Who are the most hypocritical, selfish or just downright pathetic characters in GTA?

Niko. The whole story arc in IV basically revolves around this, and redemption.

Yes, but Niko never states that what he does is a good. Rockstar did acknowledge it in the game. 

 

I would say Trevor. He whines all the time about being mistreated by his friends, while he rapes his loyal friends. Okay?

The thing with Niko is he’s entirely self aware. He knows what he does isn’t good, but his good intentions often come to blow with his actions hence why he comes off as “hypocritical”.

 

This is why Darko calls him out when he asks how much he charges for the people he kills. For much of the story Niko works as a hired gun to earn money so he can pay off Roman’s gambling debts, but by doing so it runs up against his own moral code.

 

Personally this is why I love Niko so much. He’s an incredibly complex and interesting character who exhibits every flaw we have as humans. I don’t see his hypocrisy as a negative, but that’s just me.

He literally came to America for revenge, not so hard to understand. You never see him complaining to Roman for his lies after the first mission.

I think it's more that Franklin is very quick to not care about Lamar anymore, given he didn't let him in on any of the jobs he pulled with Michael, Lester, or even Devin Weston (Lamar followed him to get that gig). 

 

Franklin is a sh*tty friend before Lamar Down, even Lamar says that ever since Franklin got money once he left and never came back, Tanisha still kept in contact with her old neighbourhood (even visits in one of Frank's switch scenes, which shows she atleast cares enough to do that)

No, but that’s what implied. For someone like Niko who came from a poor country I can understand why he may have felt persuaded on the promise of mansions, fast cars etc.

 

His reaction to Roman’s lies and deception is perfectly naturally in context. To me it comes across more of the principle that Roman was lying that sparked him to be “pissed” and as The Tracker said he never mentions it again.

 

Any money he pursues thereafter is to pay off Roman’s gambling debts.

Agreed with tanisha she took the easy way out of the hood being some doctors trophy wife. Honestly her character was annoying id rather have trevor lecture franklin in the mission.

Ugh I couldn't stand Tanisha. Her entire character was "you'll never have me, I have a trophy husband, go away".

 

That's EXACTLY the kind of person you need to cut off from your life.

That is a good question actually. I mean how many characters have we come across where they've shown their discontent about something in one way yet done it themselves in another? 

 

But to answer that question I think Kate and Louise could possibly qualify since they're not criminals with selfish tendencies and/or hold those views about others. It's rare to see to see people like that in a series where most are only looking out for themselves and are willing to do anything whether it's to lie, cheat, betray etc.

There's the obvious answer of Dimitri, who is borderline evil. He's willing to backstab anyone for any reason as long as he comes out on top, then gets pissed off when people betray him back.

 

But to mention someone who isn't in this thread already, I'd say Francis MrReary, a very corrupt police officer who claims to be a saint, who can spend all day long listing the sins other people have commited, but don't recognise their own sins. His only redeeming quality is that if he's spared, he won't backstab Niko, and will even clear his wanted level as a favor. I have no issue in shooting him every time I play Blood Brothers.
