    • Should appear only a few times as a random guy in the main story and be playable in the Epilogue
      4
    • Should appear a few times in the main story but not be a playable character

So Arthur is very popular and a lot of people seem to want him back in RDR 3.

Personally I won't be mad if he's not playable in the epilogue but it would be nice to have a young Arthur appear a few times through the story.

So are we gonna see Arthur Matthews in the RDR3's epilogue?

yes i would love to see him again .especially since he never got to have a story dlc like john did. but i want a brand new protagonist. and i certainly dont want whoever it is to die. im so bored with rockstar killing protagonists. like i get it. they want to make us sad. but they do it all the time now. i want to have some protagonists survive the game.

I don't mind him appearing in RDR3, but enough of the killing protagonists tradition already, just to play as a different character in its ending, I want to play as the same character from start to finish.

I'd like RDR3 to move away from the John Marston plot. So I don't want Arthur or any of the gang members to be key characters in the game.

After the dissapointment that was RDRedemption 2 i hope they ditch the franchise entirely, personally

I would rather RDR3 have no connection with RDR1 and RDR2. I even think RDR2 was stretching it a little being a prequel however the only reason I accepted it is Arthur ended up being a brilliant character.

For RDR3 it needs to be something entirely new iMO with no returning characters and plot elements from the previous games.

If there is ever going to be next Red Dead, I would prefer if they go way back in time and had no returning characters whatsoever. I guess I wouldn't mind if there are a few subtle references to the characters of RDR1 or RDR2, but I hope the next Red Dead game isn't "Redemption" but something else. So no Arthur for me, and if they really go way back in time, there would be no place for him to appear. He would either be very young or not born yet.

Going back in time is the only way I see for this series to continue. I love cities in RDR2, Saint Denis might be one of my favourite locations, but I love exploring the hidden caves, shacks and other interesting locations far away from the cities. Would be a real pity not to focus on what makes Red Dead unique.

Next game should be red dead revenge. And should be a game about revenge, no more redemption. Want to play as a cold outlaw. Even if they dont make him cold, the story should be about revenge

Whenever the next Red Dead is announced, I'd be surprised if it'd have anything to do with Dutch's gang. I also think the story arc wouldn't be about the protagonist redeeming his past like John and Arthur. It'd be something new and fresh, I reckon.

I think the next Red Dead should be set just a few years after the American Civil War, in the 1870's or in the 1880's at most, so we can already have some better weapons like the Smith & Wesson Model 3, Colt Single Action Army, Winchester Model 1873, Evans Model 1873 and so on, but while also having Civil War era weapons and ammunition, such as the Springfield Rifle with minie balls, some of you may know how destructive this type of ammo is. Speaking of exploring hidden places, I want Rockstar to add even more myths, legends and secrets for us to discover in the next game, take a look at these videos and you'll know what I'm talking about: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Top+10+Urban+Legends+Holly's+Lore&sp=CAI%3D.

IMO too many things from the VDL gang's past (prior to 1899) have been referenced for them to just completely forget about them and bring in an entire set of new characters for the third game, it just wouldn't make sense to do that. I'd defo like to see Arthur again but ultimately I'd like the main protagonist to be a younger Dutch.

Amen to this! A true Wild West-era story and no more “the end of the old west” bull crap.

I’d like RDR3 to be after the events of RDR1. Either as Jack or someone new

Or RDR3 to take place after the events of RDR2 and we control Sadie Adler

no offense but you must be nuts. rdr2 is a great game. probably the best game so far. even if you dont like it millions did. and they more than likely will make a new red dead. why should they ditch a franchise that made them so much money and fame? that would be shooting themselves in the foot.

New map, new gangs, new protagonists, new antagonists. Set in the 1870s/80s too.

The Wild West is huge and many, many stories could be told, yet all we have had for the last twenty years is the story of the Van der Linde gang. I genuinely do not understand why people want RDR3 to be about that same bunch of characters too.

If RDR3 is about the same bunch of characters then we would have to wait until RDR4 until we get a whole new bunch of characters and at R*’s rate of release RDR4 won’t be out until the 2040s and I’ll be dead by then.

I just don’t get it. If there were other Wild West games of similar quality available I wouldn’t care so much. But there’s nothing else. It’s like a law was passed saying that “all high quality Wild West games must be about members of the Van der Linde gang” and I’m like, no, I want RDR3 to be about the cattle trails or Wyatt Earp or Tombstone or something.

No.

But if RDR3 has to happen, I'd like it to be set in the same universe, in the same map. And I'd be happy if there were cameo, or such.

I think it would be cool to continue the story as Jack. If they could still have tons of wild west stuff going on in 1914 in RDR1 they could have some a couple years later too, just because "the wild west was dying" doesn't mean every element just instantly disappeared. And him getting into some more modern crime (but could still be rural and in similar parts of the US) would be cool as well. Some prohibition era, John Dillinger type stuff could be awesome.

If they were doing younger Van der Linde gang I think it should be as far back in time as possible with very minimal returning characters (Dutch, Hosea, maybe Arthur late on or something) and plenty of new ones. Because RDR2 really didn't give us the gang in its heyday at all and only the death of it I think there could be room for another prequel, if they did it right and didn't repeat themselves too much or link it together as much as 1 and 2. And they would have to think of something different to do at the end instead of killing the protagonist.

If they did a totally new story I would hope they'd call it "Red Dead [something other than redemption]" because calling it RDR3 in that situation would be even more stupid than calling a prequel RDR2 was.

I still don’t get it. We’ve had two massive games about one single group in a completely fictional countryside comprised of made-up states and made-up places, and people say “I want a third one.”

We have already had eleven years of Van der Linde games. I love the RDR story as much as anyone but RDR3 probably won’t drop until the early 2030s and by that time we will have had a quarter of a century of Van der Linde games. If RDR3 is related to the same gang then those of who want something else will have to wait until RDR4 which will be when, nearly 2050 probably?

New Austin and West Elizabeth and the others are great yes but I genuinely do not understand why people think they are the only Wild West places that Rockstar should ever make games about.

Personally I would like a new game in new states. New characters. 1870s and 1880s. I never want to hear ‘What happened at Blackwater’ in a game ever again lol

Amen! New people in the real old west and not the west in the shape of a rotten corpse. Do not get me wrong, RDR2 is probably my favorite game ever, but I am tired of the dying west. I want to play in a vibrant and living old west!

I’d rather the fourth Red Dead game wouldn’t be the third in the Redemption subseries. If it has to be, then I can see Arthur filling a similar role to young John, showing the rise of Dutch’s gang. Or maybe even filling the role of Jack, if they make Arthur’s dad the protagonist.

I’d rather a completely new Red Dead, divorced from the life of John. Set in Alaska-Yukon during the gold rushes, set during the birth of and height of the old west of the 1850s-1870s, set in victorian Southern Africa to have the ‘pith helmet safari’ feel, or set in Australia prior to federation in 1901.

Anyone think Landon Rickets could be the protagonist in RDR3? Even if they veer away from the VDL gang they'll still be involved somehow and Landon Rickets probably would have crossed paths with Dutch, Hosea and possibly Arthur at some point - not to mention he had involvement in the Blackwater massacre. It would actually make a ton of sense for him to be the next protagonist.
