Simple question about installing a new patch (Vitamins for Niko Bellic . Official GTA IV patch 1.0.7.0) vs. upgrading the game

I have played GTA IV almost through to the end. I only have to complete the final mission. However, according to my understanding, the patch version (1.0.2.43) that I am using contains a bug. In order to avoid any spoilers, I just refer to the bug that seems to exist in the final mission (you get to choose between two alternatives), where you are chasing someone in a boat, but the helicopter that should come and pick you up crashes into a building instead, which makes it impossible to complete the mission.

 

According to my system, I am using version 1.0.2.43 of GTA IV. I have a retail version of the game and I installed the game via Rockstar Games Social Club. Since then, the game has been automatically updated whenever an update has been available. My question is, do I have to install the newest patch myself, or shouldn't it be installed together with the update? And if I do install the latest patch, whichever it is, can it have any effects on any saved game data?

10 years ago I had the same bug and I had to install this ancient recording program, FRAPS, which lowered my FPS. This helped. However, you should have the newest version of your game right now.

Just cap your fps to 30 or 60 with Fusion Fix.
