The real issue is that 4k looks amazing on PC already and what we're seeing is optimized 4k footage on consoles with some mix of low and high settings to make it playable with ~60 fps.

The thing is as well, is that the PS5 and Series X are already powerful enough to do High at 4K/60FPS.

Should be from what I've googled, but particles in particular (pun intended) are extremely taxing and especially at high resolution. Maybe we're looking at the game footage compressed with that god awful VP9 crap that YT uses these days, who knows. Anyway, PC is still the king of visuals mostly because of the rendering distance. It's astonishing how this thing plays out: until you enable it, the game looks fine, but going back is really the issue.

PS4 and Xbox One version already use High particle settings, there is absolutely no reason for PS5 version not to be 4K 60 fps.

I have RX 5700 XT a GPU which is almost equal to PS5's, and I can play with 4K 60-80 fps no problem on mix of high and very high settings.

Plus, is that fps in SP ≠ fps in online. To make matters worse, high fps with >100 will break the gameplay in Online as it was shown before and that's quite pissing for PC players already and AFAIK was never fixed.

PS4 and Xbox One versions already have every single setting set to either high, very high or ultra.

Or its just a lazy upscale port...

If I remember correctly the Xbox One and PS4 was running RDR2 at medium settings and the Xbox One X at high, the Series X is twice as powerful as the X and over four times the read speed on the SSD. It should easily be able to run GTAV at max settings, but let's say high at 4K/60FPS for breathing room.

All console versions of RDR2 ran at the same settings, which is a clever mix of low, medium and high. The only difference between them is the resolution.

Xbox One is 864p, PS4 is 1080p, PS4 Pro is 2160p Checkerboard and Xbox One X is 4K native - all at 30 fps.

With a simple frame unlock patch Series X could play RDR2 at 60 fps at 4K Native (since Series X GPU is at least 100% faster than Xbox One X's) and we know RDR2 is far better looking game than GTA V.

Sounds about right. The Series X could easily run GTAV at Ultra 4K/60FPS.

4K 60 fps Ultra in GTA V and 4K 60 fps in RDR2 through backwards compatibility patch, because even at medium-high RDR2 looks better than GTA V at ultra

I know right... RDR2 really doesn't need a new release, but they will do it anyway.

Well, considering that the trailer could have been half-baked with these yellow plates, there's a chance that some of the settings are a bit off and won't be the same in the final game. In other way, I think the game will look better, than the trailer. Unless R* does something about crap low-res player clothing, it will still look bad.

Just for reference, directly from the Red Dead settings presets files which include console graphics settings.

Raw code: https://pastebin.com/eqsAHL53

Translated (for the base consoles), if you can read the XML you can see all the other consoles' presets including higher resolutions and the PS4 Pro/Xbox One X:

Xbox One (1080p)

Spoiler

Tessellation: High

Shadow Quality: Medium

Reflection Quality: Low

Mirror Quality: Medium

SSAO: Medium

Textures: Ultra

Particle Quality: Medium

Tree Quality: Medium

Lighting Quality: Medium

TAA: High

Soft Shadows:

Scattering Volumes Quality: Low

Raymarching Quality (affects clouds and the accuracy/resolution of their lighting): Low

Terrain Shadow Quality: Medium

Deep Surface Quality (mud): High

Grass Shadows: Medium

Scaling Mode: 0.75x (because base Xbox One is not native 1080p)

PS4 (1080p):

Textures: Ultra

Particle Quality: Medium

Tree Quality: Medium

No scaling, as PS4 is native 1080p.

Honestly, I really hope you're right. Because like it or not, we'll be playing this game for a couple years. Clothing tho, I know that's not being fixed.

Well, I'm done with V for good. Don't even have it on my backup drives. My optimism here is just mostly informed realism, because game looks decent on PC with similar settings.

I am more than likely going to take the next step and get a decent PC. All my hopes and dreams for E&E are shattered. I just want to mod anyway. Not just GTA, but fallout and Skyrim too.  Will likely wait and get a PS5 or series when supply evens out and prices drop. All pending the open cases I am fighting don't land me in jail. Then I doubt I will even be alive to play the sh*t show that will likely be GTA 6 or online Mk2😬

he's kinda right, tho. im most likely missing some context here but many users don't like to admit they have a stockholm syndrome with this game and the community in general looks down on people who are ok with how things are, so the whole "rockstar bad" mentality exists while people still blindly support them.

the whole point of a forum is discussing, which means there has to be different points of view for discussion to exist. if i wanted to circlejerk the same opinion over and over for easy sympathy points i'd go to reddit

It baffles me when Rockstar had the choice to release a free enhancement patch during the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X era. They still have choice to do that now for PS5 and Xbox Series owners but Rockstar have gone out of their way to make a PC console port and charge again. This is just pure greed and massively disrespectful to loyal Rockstar fans. Their reputation is beginning to decline massively if Rockstar continues to treat their fanbase this way. Never in a million years I thought Rockstar would turn this bad back in 2013

PC users will get all the Online updates/upgrades for free and PS5 gets Online for free for the first few months because R* being the greedy little sh*ts they made a deal for Sony money leaving Xbox players with sh*t on their faces.

I saw the trailer, feeling hugely disappointed.

Something about instant character switching? Like since when was that a problem?

What annoyed me the most from the trailer is that it only featured stuff we already knew, the "and much more." Well...what more? What else is new? It was a real opportunity to tell us what was new and to be really honest, there wasn't anything in that trailer we didn't already know. Totally missed the mark.

I don't have a PS5 yet and don't intend on getting one for a while as their simply aren't enough exclusives out for me to warrant a new console, that and the fact you simply can't get them.

I'm not really sure about PC version, there's still no info about it and the doomsday scenario here is where PC players will be charged for the E&E lol.

Lol. There is no info because we already own it.

We won’t be charged anything because we don’t play on the new consoles that are getting  their own version of the game we already own.  No matter how old they get or what upgrades we make we will always be playing on the same hardware so we don’t need a new version.

Only way we would need that is if the game was completely remade with a new engine. It’s pretty obvious that is not the case.

Even if by some miracle there is a new version for PC it will be the same as always and come at a later date.

Well, hold your horses there! I meant doomsday scenario is the one, where R* artificially pushes the "new" paid  version on PC and stops updating the old one. This way, we still own the old version, but there are no more updates. And considering the engine, a lot could be changed in this "new version" under the hood too: network code, balancing the economy, etc, etc. That's the real worst case scenario: there's a better online, but it's available for a price. Again.

Thx! And I don't want to get all political, but I feel like my state is the worst in regards to 2A. MA. Or as I call it  c#ck-a-chusetts! Patriots are a meme. We have some of the strictest gun and obligation to flee while not hurting your attackers feelings in the process laws in the country. Criminals have more rights than the victim.
