Only two things concern me really, after the trailer. One is Keanu seems to be stuck in John Wick mode. Could be the hair, I don't know, he seems less stoic than the old Neo, but maybe this will be explained in the plot. My other issue is the color grading, it looks like a Netflix production. I don't care that the theatrical cut wasn't slathered in green, that's how I remember The Matrix. I'm excited though, don't let the complaining fool you.

Hopefully it'll be a treat, I remember enjoying the first one alot but don't remember much of the sequels aside a cool car chase on a freeway. Think I'll have a rewatch just before this arrives as it's been a while.

I really love trilogy, but this feels like matrix parody or grotesque. First minute makes me smile, I dont know.

If anybody say that this is another John Wick, I will not dispute this.

Is this The Guy?

I’ll watch it sure why not.

Anyone know if this is a one off or are they planning another trilogy?

Matrix 1-3 were the first movies i ever watched in HD at home, im looking forward to the 4th one, even tho it probably won't be as groundbreaking like the first Matrix movie, nothing can top that.

But yeah the long hair of Keanu is getting kinda old, i would have prefered the old typical Neo style. Who knows maybe it's a good movie after all, i definitely gonna watch it, but also at home, because f*ck cinemas, nobody needs that if you got a home cinema, no annoying ppl sitting around me eating popcorn and whatnot.

The last movie i saw in a movie theater was Jarhead in 2005 lol. I was a kid back then, and the father of a friend of mine invited us to it.

It's Hollywood. If it sells, more will come.

Shoot, even if it don't, more will probably come. All bets are off in the era of sequels, prequels, franchises, crossovers and retcons. ;)

I found it be completely unnecessary and didn't anything of particular value to the trilogy, but still enjoyed the movie all the same.

I enjoyed it quite a bit. I found it had a better plot than any of the other sequels by far and relied much less on pseudointellectual/existential nonsense than any of the first three.

I mostly expected it to be a sort of rehash of the original but was pleasantly surprised to find it felt more fresh than that. More random and spoilery thoughts below:

Spoiler

The whole opening act was a bit clunky. It went waaaay too meta for it's own good with the whole "video game" thing and it wasn't really using the meta commentary to say anything new or fresh.

Also, I felt that Neo spent a long time struggling with whether or not he was crazy and the Analyst seemed to have a really strong hold on him but the people who freed Neo sure didn't have to work very hard to convince him to follow them. I get that they needed to move things along and get the second act started but it felt a little rushed.

No Laurence Fishbourne or Hugo Weaving was pretty disappointing.

I may have missed something but why couldn't Neo fly after the final "battle"? Obviously it was so they could have that crazy chase sequence but it felt really forced.

I'm not sure why this bothered me so much but the Sense8 cast really pulled me out of the movie.

It felt like a rather shallow and rushed entry to the franchise to me. It was almost like what a Matrix sequel would be if JJ Abrams made it.

Spoiler

I thought Yahya did alright as NuMorpheus and since its not quite the same character, the casting gets away with it a bit. It is a real shame that scheduling conflicts meant Hugo Weaving couldn't reprise the role of Agent Smith though. I approached Jonathan Groff's performance with an open mind but unfortunately this wasn't it and I doubt anyone can pull it off like Hugo did.

Neo is flying in the final scene of the movie, as he did in the original Matrix. His progression is analogous to the first film, except he's rediscovering instead of learning. That chase scene was a bit meh really and surprisingly everyone made it out alive (20 years ago some of these disposables would have died lol).

I find myself agreeing that the pacing is a little off. I wonder if its an element of being undecided on whether this is a one shot or if there will be future movies.

I thought it was fun. Lana spending the first half of the movie basically sh*tting on Warner Bros. was unexpectedly hilarious. Did not find the love story all that compelling in the second half. Didn't top the first two films, but it was better than Revolutions.

It had some cool parts but on the whole it was kind of an embarrassing effort to revive this franchise. I don't think that this movie needed a sequel lol. In many ways it felt more like a remake than a continuation of the story.

That's what made it work for me, the first half mirroring the first Matrix film. Replace the monotonous but comfortable millenium angst of the late 90s with the boot on the neck, work until you drop dead biochemical hell economy America has become today.

Creative bankruptcy is a symptom of a dead society. It's very ironic when you view the film in this way. I complained about the set design looking like a Netflix production, I was wrong. It completely fits the plot. Half the backgrounds in moving sequences, like the train, resemble a wallpaper you'd see on a Windows Vista computer. This is like a dry run for Metaverse cinema.

The more I talk this thing out, the more it grows on me. What let Resurrections down is the poorly done action scenes and questionable casting decisions.  I was not too invested in the Neo/Trinity romance either, but it's refreshing to see blockbuster sci-fi with earnest relationships between characters. I am sick to death of the sterile, loveless Marvel formula; and the Netflix hard cut to a meaningless sex scene that litters every series. Lana successfully weaving a hetero love plot into one of the most trans films ever made is very impressive to me.

Is it as bad as people say it is

Creed Bratton

Probably the worst movie of the year. A needless cashgrab. The first Matrix was the epitome of the right movie at the right time. Everything about it was revolutionary. It was a movie that the world needed. Nobody needs this sh*t. It just cheapens the franchise as a whole.

A lot of people seem to be ripping into it because they think it is "woke agenda sh*t" when there's absolutely nothing woke about it. Plenty of legitimate gripes about the movie mind you.

This movie is the definition of filler. There are no stakes at all and nothing substantial about the plot. I'm quite disappointed and this comes from a person who enjoyed the original trilogy as a whole (even if it's flawed). I know many people like to pretend Reloaded/Revolutions never existed.
