New to this... Question about missions

So, doing the first train robbing mission. For some reason, the conductor stangled me and pressing the E key in every single way I could think of did jack you-know-what. sigh.  This game does not have good prompting for controls. too often I have to look them up online when they should be "live" prompts in-game...sigh.

Anyway, I don't want to have to restart the ENTIRE mission over again..I'm not a person that likes to play for the sake of playing, I like to complete things...    And I probably will bail this game if I have to start from the very very beginning of each "mission" if something goes wrong.

 

Sooo...is there any way to save progress during a mission so if the game messes up, like when you can't shake an attacker even though ur pressing the correct button....so you don't have to start all the way from the beginning of the mission? That's a game killer....gotta be a way to avoid it. Nobody has that much time or patience.
