Problems starting on new LCD monitor

Just got a new NEC LCD monitor and wanted to test it out on VC but the game will not launch at all.  Nothing happens when I execute the game.  The same happens to GTA3!!  I tried reinstalling the games and it didn't change anything.  All other games and apps work very nicely.

 

I guess that the games are doing some check of the monitor at startup and they don't like mine!!!  Does anybody have any idea what can this be and how to fix it?  Thanks!!!

 

EDIT:  I just read the post by solace64:

"What solved the problem for me was deleting the gta_vc.set file in .... \My Documents\GTA Vice City User Files" in another thread and it solved my problem with box games (similar .set file in GTA3).  This  is very weird, but I'm now happy :).  THanks!!!
