kaibr
Making this post primarily because I have a couple friends that are iffy about it and I don't have much to say about it because I got to about level 30 around launch then got bored when there wasn't much to do at the time on both PC and Xbox One. What are some activities you find fun in RDO, especially with friends? How long is the "story" of RDO?
Rokushakubo
There's a lot of new stuff to do. You can work on the roles, collector if you want to zone out and explore, bounty hunter if you want some PvE content, moonshiner is a passive money maker, trading is if you like hunting as is naturalist in its own way. Then there is call to arms if you and your friends want a survival mode that pays out pretty well. The new blood money missions are more PvE type content. There's a lot to unlock and max if that's your thing. The story of RDO is not substantial, you don't play RDO for the story but the cowboy life style. ventogt, G The Generous, kaibr and 4 others

Caffeination
Nope. Just like GTA Online, this game is a comfortable, yet mind-numbingly boring experience only if you played it early enough and acquired an absurd amount of wealth beforehand, either through legitimate or illegitimate means. New players trying to get into this game are doomed into a perpetual cycle of grinding. If you don’t, your attempts to have “fun”, whatever it means to you, will be cut short by the fact you’re broke, and being broke means being miserable. You’ll be stuck with sh*tty starter weapons, sh*tty starter horses, and sh*tty equipment for yourself and your camp for a really long time. I’m saying this as someone who has over $90K and 290 gold, with eight horses and all fully upgraded properties, the only role I haven’t maxed out or bothered getting was Naturalist. I still remember being miserable back in 2019, with my Kentucky Saddler and stock Cattleman and waiting ages for my cores to be restored while resting at camp since it’s ridiculously easy to get overweight in this game. Granted, roles didn’t exist then, but treasure maps were really common drops, and money glitches were plentiful and simple back then. If you didn’t abuse those things back then, you wouldn’t have the luxury of disregarding the grind nowadays. I couldn't disagree more so it just shows that nobody can really answer the original question and you really just have to give it a try and decide if it's good for you or not. My rank 1000 character with ridiculous amounts of money and gold is taking a break at the moment. Started again and new character currently at rank 12. The whole game came back to life again. When you have everything then there's nothing left to achieve. When you have nothing then you get pleasure from the smallest of things. At rank 8 got to kick a bright red rank 120s butt the other night who ended up having to bring out explosive ammo. At 1000 it would have been a hollow victory but when you're in single digits using a standard Carbine with basic ammo and can't even afford to buy shoes then it's magical. Rockstarsucks33
It's a good game if you are completely brand new for about 4-6 months. There is currently no point in earning more money than you need for 2 good horses and 5 guns. Once you've unlocked all roles and role items you're left with repetitive missions for horrible pay(which doesn't even matter because there is nothing to spend money or gold on). I will say for the most part other players you come across are usually friendly and not wanting to start problems or attack you for no reason like in gto. I definitely, definitely appreciate that part of RDO. I also like the emotes because they help me communicate to others that I'm friendly because I don't use a mic. I don't know why they have so many trolling emotes though?? It is a "relaxing" game where you can be afk sometimes and play very casually. Just don't get your hopes up that one day they'll magically release properties or big ticket items for us to spend money/gold on, because I've been telling myself they will and have continued to be disappointed month after month. I used to play every day before the daily gold nerf but have lost almost all interest because I'm sitting on 200k$ and 600 gold with absolutely nothing to buy. I recommend going as slow as possible because unfortunately all of the content for RDO is already in the game. Don't expect new guns or horses or properties or anything fun to be released in the future. Ryo256
